Four Components of BRIA Thailand
26.03.2015 10
BRIA Thailand | Component 1 & 2
Farmer trainings on safe, responsible,
economic, & ecological way of using
production inputs
10,000 farmers will be trained covering
an area of at least 19,200 ha
Future farmer approach: promoting
female and young farmers
Target groups are farmers in
Sisaket, Surin, Ubon Rachathani,
& Roi-Et
Development of curriculum preferably
together with DoR, DoAE, BCS, and GIZ
Private Partners: Bayer CropScience
Media-based approach with extended
outreach at farm level to contain
impropriate use of fertilizer & pesticides
Farmer groups compete in a reality-
contest on sustainable rice crop
technology
Broadcasted activities focus on improving
rice crop technologies, cultural practices, &
production quality
TV sets are distributed to leaders of
farmer groups to increase outreach
Partners: BASF, Siam Kubota, Fertilizer
Co., AIS, Kasetsart University, Kantana
Television, BAAC, DoAE, & DoR
Component 1
Training for Sustainable Rice
Production
Component 2
Awareness Raising for Sustainable
Production

BRIA Thailand | Component 3 & 4
Component 3
Postharvest Efficiency
Component 4
Market Linkages & Young
Agripreneurs
Interventions focus on preventing food
losses & improving efficiency of value-
adding rice technologies
Aim is to strengthen rural economy by
generating more employment & income
Agro-Board Solution aims at improving
the ability of smallholder households to
generate additional income by using local
waste for manufacturing furniture
Potential partners: Bayer CS,
In particular, packaging & storage for rice
& its by-products shall be improved
Aim is to increase competitiveness of
local rice supply through improved market
linkages
Focus is on reduced transaction costs,
better access to production factors &
market information
Special focus on promotion of young
farmers & young agripreneurs to combat
labor shortage in rural areas
Future farmer approach: promote
farming as an attractive career choice at
local communities & schoolsPotential partners: BAAC, MoC, Local
Private compaies

Community Rice Center (CRC) = Group of Rice Farmers that
Rice Department supports the networking concept
Supported the “Fried Eggs Model”
Compare the Community Rice Center is the egg yolk and the
farmers are white egg.

Capacity Building• Increase the production
efficiency• Innovation• Efficiency Input• GAP
All of CRCs are supported
by BRIA Thailand in
Capacity Building which
designed by PIPA workshop
26.03.2015 16
1. Supported the “Fried Eggs Model”
2. After the Capacity Building in each province, We will select the
highest Capacity Building CRC for development to be CRC
Model follow by Integrated Plot Management such as
Farm Machineries, Technology Innovation, Cost-Benefit Technique,
Value-added and by product
Market linkages
3. BRIA will coordinate and support with public and private
partnership to approach the above

To create sustainable rice value chain
Public Private Partnership along Rice Value Chain is
Fundamental Concept of BRIA work.
Two Levels of PPP under integration framework
National Level: BRIA, Rice Department, Department of
Agriculture Extension, Department of Intellectual Property
BAYER CropScience, BASF, etc, Support on Policy, budget to organize a platform for local network and to
provide input.
Provincial Level: BRIA, local public officers, local stakeholders in
rice value chain
BRIA Thailand | PPP for Changes

To Create
“Sustainable Agribusiness Models in Rice Value Chain”
• For example:
• Better Rice: Better Quality Rice and Higher Competitive Price
• Farm Machineries: Provide knowledge to rice farmers; how to invest in Farm
Machinery to reduce production cost, and also support the idea concept to rice famers
who will act as machinery service providers to other farmers.
• Apply Ecological Engineering Knowhow: e.g.. Planting flowers, and also help farmers
link to the markets and make it as a new business for farmers.

BRIA = Work as Organizer or Facilitator to provide “Stakeholders Inclusion” Platform
• Series of forum, meeting, workshop, dialogues
Innovation or knowledge Support
Rice Department, Department of Agricultural Extension
Ministry of Commerce, local officers,
Private Companies, who have better rice innovation and willing to share
Network Group of rice farmers
Small private companies, or new entrepreneurs; who are interested to entrant or expand
business along rice value chain.
BRIA Thailand | PPP for Changes
26.03.2015 21
Working together
to share common goal
“Better Rice, Better life” for Rice Stakeholders”
And follow Global, Government regulations and Standards : GAP, GMP, Organic, SRP, etc.
BRIA Thailand | PPP for Changes
26.03.2015 22
Example of Platform that BRIA applies:
Participatory Impact Pathway Analysis (PIPA)
Arrange dialogues, forum, to exchange innovation, market
linkage technique
Arrange Participatory Training to farmers and
stakeholders.
BRIA Thailand | PPP for Changes
26.03.2015 23
Significant stakeholders in rice value chain are invited to
participate and work together.
Local Public officers: RD and DoAE, Provincial Commerce,
Provincial Governor, Irrigation, Sub-district Administrative
Organization, FDA, University
Local farmers: Smart Farmers in each selected CRCs
Local Private: Millers, Chamber of Commerce, Bank,
Cooperatives, new entrepreneur, Fertilizer Vendors, Bayer,
Machinery Vendors,
