Welcome to New AlbanyBy SCOTT McAFEEPublic Information Officer

While New Albany’s wood-ed preserves, scenic vistas, trademark white horse fences, world class golf courses, and timeless Georgian architecture are always on display, it’s the people and connectedness that set our town apart. New Albany is a place where family and friendships are highly valued, from the people who live and work here to the staff dedicated to serve them. On any given night, this close-knit com-munity may celebrate the New Albany Community Foundation’s Remarkable Evening with a former U.S. President, attend a performance of a world-renowned performing artist, or cheer one of the school district’s sports teams participating in the state championships.

Life in New Albany is anchored by the Village Center, our social, educational, and cultural core. This pedestrian-friendly area is home to restaurants, coffee shops, governmental offices, the library, the Jeanne B. McCoy Center for the Arts, and the New Albany Plain Local School District’s 200-acre learning campus where all school activities and grade levels are

synergized into one place. District leaders benchmark with the nation’s highest

performing schools, fostering a spirit of continual learning and

innovation to develop high achieving, ethical, self-

directed and intellectually curious citizens of the world.

Health and wellness is another community core principal. New Albany is home to more than 900 acres of green space, 77 total miles of leisure trails and sidewalks, and nearly every home is a

quarter mile or less from a park. Thanks to a coopera-

tive between the City of New Albany, The Ohio State Univer-

sity Wexner Medical Center, and Healthy New Albany, ground will

be broken in 2013 on the first commu-nity wellness center to blend medicine, fit-

ness, and community wellness activities all in one place. Located in the Village Center, programming will be integrated for all ages and will include a research component that helps New Albany serve as a national model for promoting well-being.

Another organic community connection is the New Albany Business Park. What was literally a corn field less than 15 years ago has blossomed into a 3,000-acre business park with three highway interchanges, dual-feed electric power, and a state-of-the-art municipal

broadband network that can save users as much as 20% off their fiber-optic needs. Our business park now represents more than $1.3 billion in committed private investment and more than 12,000 commit-ted jobs. Since 2009, New Albany has announced the creation of more than 3,500 jobs from companies of all sizes whose leaders understand the value of doing business in New Albany. Better yet, 2,500 of those jobs are new to Ohio, helping to grow jobs in our region and state.

In New Albany, you’ll find a master planned com-munity with outstanding architecture, exceptional educational opportunities and a high work-life bal-ance tucked within beautiful surroundings in a safe and friendly town.

Learn more at www.newalbanyohio.org.

“Here in New Albany, we like to say it’s not where you live but how you live that defines your quality of life. Our community is a wonderful mix of beauty, charm and sophistication. I can’t imagine a better place to call home.”

The educational cam-pus of Ready Set Grow has been proudly serving children of New Albany and the surrounding communities since 2000. Located directly next to the New Albany K-1 building, Ready Set Grow is a privately owned, highly secured, three-building school that exceeds state standards in all programs.

Ready Set Grow is selective when choosing teaching staff to fulfill the needs of the children. Several teachers hold degrees in Education or a related field. The staff is also trained in CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Child Abuse Prevention.

The climate of Ready Set Grow is fun, loving, educational, and nurtur-ing. Children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age are welcome to enroll in our exciting journey of learning. The chil-dren at Ready Set Grow stay active and engaged throughout the day. Par-ents of infants find fulfill-ment knowing that their

little one is receiving love and nurturing during this important time of growth and development. Tod-dlers are also busy with hands on learning and activities that foster their curiosity and energy.

The rotation of our

preschool sets us apart and keeps the children highly motivated to come to Ready Set Grow day after day. Every 45 minutes throughout the day, the children rotate with one home-room teacher to math,

language arts, science/social studies, art, music, and gym. Children also receive phonics instruc-tion in small groups based on their individual skill level. This highly structured program has resulted in an outstand-

ing acceptance rate of our preschool graduates into private schools.

Without a doubt, the All Day Kindergarten program at Ready Set Grow is best of the best when it comes to quality curriculum, develop-

mentally appropriate instruction and talented teaching staff. Kinder Wrap at Ready Set Grow is an extension of the New Albany Kindergar-ten program, which also receives excellent re-views. Last but not least, the School Age program at Ready Set Grow pro-vides the children with time to do their home-work as well as relax with friends after school.

We are proud to sup-port and participate in local charities and events as well as sponsor our own seasonal Ready Set Grow events. We love seeing so many families sharing smiles together at the Holiday Concert and Family Fall Festival.

Ready Set Grow goes above and beyond when it comes to making memories in the life of a child. The children have opportunities all year round to gain confi-dence, build friendships and gain life skills.

Chamber going to the next levelNew Albany Chamber of Commerce55 W. Main St., New Albany(614) 855-4400newalbanychamber.com

As one of central Ohio’s largest chambers, the New Albany Chamber of Com-merce, Board of Trustees, unveiled a new brand and corporate identity for the Chamber. The new brand is reflective of the spiraling growth in global commercial enterprises and comple-ments the identities of the established community partners.

Tammy Krings, CEO of TS24, led the strategic plan efforts that created the roadmap for the Chamber to achieve the next level. A collaborative effort from Big Red Rooster’s senior market-ing executives produced new brand concepts with input and execution from Prism Marketing and Cham-ber Trustees.

The plan focuses on three primary values the chamber provides for New Albany:Economic Resilience

The New Albany Cham-ber is in a unique position to apply “hands on” approach to helping businesses suc-ceed. Chamber projects executed in collaboration with “community” leads to dynamism and the creation of wealth. Leadership Creation

In a community of strong leaders, the Chamber is in a unique position to be a catalyst to help nurture up

and coming business leaders of tomorrow.Community Strength

The City of New Albany is built on the foundation of “community”. The chamber provides a sense of commu-nity and purpose through a unified voice involving mutual interests, opportuni-ties, and problems.

The New Albany Cham-ber has its sight on being the primary resource for information about New Albany which benefits mem-ber as they are channeled referrals and connectivity. The chamber was awarded a portion of the City’s transient tax (commonly known as the bed tax paid by hotel guests) to manage the tourism function for New Albany. Plans are underway to develop initiatives that attract visitors to the city via advertising, marketing and communication vehicles such as websites, social media, Visitor’s Guides and other promotional materi-

als. A tourism task force will oversee the development and execution of the plan which must be approved by the City’s Economic Development Commission annually.

Monthly chamber events focus on topics to im-prove business-es. Additional

specialized groups such as the Human Resource Coun-cil offers industry specific educational meetings. “Most of the projects are com-pleted by volunteers from the membership that serve on these task forces,” notes the President Eileen Leuby. “In addition to myself, our staff includes Office Manage Sue McCaffrey, part time bookkeeper Paulette Hil-lebrand and student interns. Our mission is to strengthen business success that creates a vibrant local economy.”

The chamber will con-clude 2012 with “our best annual meeting to date and the recognition of our new Delta Award Recipients” at the Annual Meeting on Dec. 13, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Winding Hollow Country Club, 6140 Babbitt Road, New Albany, Ohio 43054. “I just wanted to express my gratitude to you and to Mr. Lykins (and your staff) for probably one of the best ‘tax’ experiences I have ever had in my life yesterday! Here I am, unemployed, feeling like a complete loser with no money, and I am treated like royalty at your office. I am still so surprised that the owner/president of your company made the effort to ask me if I wanted ice cream without even knowing me or my cir-cumstances! That made my entire YEAR!

Your professionalism, your thoughtfulness and ability to care about people really does set you apart from any other tax preparers in my book. I will refer your services to ev-eryone I know. If you would, please forward this to Mr. Lykins as I want him to know how truly wonderful I think he and his company are. Thank you so much!”

Five years ago, a symphony orchestra grew out of a simple idea to combine the best professionals in the city with the most talented student and community musicians. This new orchestra would perform the great classical literature in fresh new formats while stay-ing true to the art form, and would become a platform for bringing friends and neigh-bors together to the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts.

And so an orchestra came to life – the New Albany Sym-phony Orchestra – with a focus on education, outreach, and innovative programming. A board was formed to set up the organization, volunteers raised their hands to help, and the community embraced us with offerings of in-kind services. We all know the saying “build it and they will come,” and in less than a year there were over 100 musicians on stage.

The orchestra received na-tional recognition from guest artists who were excited to hear of the creation of a new arts organization in a time of such economic despair in the coun-try. We quickly attracted the attention of nine-time Grammy

Award-winning cellist, David Finckel, who agreed to be our opening guest artist. In the five short years since then, we have hosted some of the most tal-ented musicians and compos-ers in the business. The New Albany Symphony Orchestra has performed 20 concerts and we have provided over 20 outreach programs in our local schools.

We are excited for what the future holds for the New Albany Symphony Orchestra! A heartfelt “thank you” goes to our friends, family members, fans, and supporters for believ-ing that we could do it. They

say it “takes a village.” The creation of the New Albany Symphony is proof that when a community comes together anything is possible. Thank you, Mayor Ferguson, and the City of New Albany, the New Albany Community Founda-tion, New Albany Schools, the McCoy Center staff, and all of our corporate sponsors and grantors who have enabled us to “bring music to life” in New Albany, Ohio.

Happy Fifth Anniversary, New Albany Symphony Orchestra, and thank you, New Albany, for your continued support.

Studio Elements Salon & Spa was built/ established to meet the increasing demand from New Albany beauty cli-ents seeking high quality salon and spa services. The beauty and spa in-dustry is truly redefined at Studio Elements Salon & Spa. There, each client has access to every facet of beauty service: hair care services of all types, nail services, body treat-ments, facials, waxing, threading, etc., each contained only steps away from one another. The state of the art studio arrangements provide comfort and privacy of one-on-one attention for clients in a peaceful and highly customized luxurious salon and spa environment.

Studio Elements Salon & Spa is not about simply creating another market for beauty profession-als. Studio Elements is focused on support-ing community trade, respecting independent beauty professionals and promoting friendship

among peers. A new and unique type of establish-ment, Studio Elements Salon & Spa is creating a unique business op-portunity for the salon and spa professional searching for an entre-preneurial salon and spa environment.

Most Beauty Profes-sionals are creative professionals who pride themselves on their artistry and their indi-viduality. Unfortunately, there’s not much room for individuality within

the traditional salon and spa settings. The Studio Elements Salon & Spa’s concept allows local beauty professionals to launch their own person-alized mini-salon and

spa with total control of every aspect of their new business from décor and pricing to their individual hours of operation. This concept of entrepreneur-ship has attracted many independent beauty professionals and former salon owners. Individu-ally, beauty professionals are able to grow as busi-ness owners in their own pace at a cost they can now afford.

In addition to help-ing budding business owners within the beauty

industry stand on their own two feet, Studio Ele-ments Salon & Spa also promotes a sharper focus on the client. The state of the art studio arrange-ments provide privacy and one-on-one atten-tion for the client. Beauty professionals also benefit from the flexibility to better accommodate the

needs of their clients, especially when schedul-ing appointments. The real-time online book-ing program allows 24/7 easy-access to schedules and appointments from anywhere.

Whew! What a won-derful ride!

Way back in 1993, we were just a gleam in the eye of local resident and artist, Harold Cooper, when he gathered to-gether a handful of art enthusiasts and formed the New Albany Arts Council with the mission of promoting an appre-ciation for, and, more importantly, the partici-pation in the arts by our residents.

From our humble beginnings those many years ago, we started building art program-ming with a summer and fall arts festival, plus a summer art camp for children. We soon added a year-round vocal chorus for teens through adults, followed by our highly acclaimed summer musical theater program for area kids, a year round community band, and a youth piano competition. Wedged in-between all that, we present two musical con-certs every year, Concert

on the Com-mons in the summer and Night Moves Concert in the fall, and proudly produced New Albany Shines for the grand opening of the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts.

All of this has been made pos-sible through the dedi-cated work of volunteers, financial support of local busi-ness, grant opportuni-ties from the New Albany Community Foundation and City of New Albany, and the continued support and participation of our membership.

We’ve been here through it all, watching the area grow from a sleepy village to a vibrant city, and while the demo-graphics and population

are ever changing, and our programming chang-es with it, the love for the arts and appreciation for its positive effect on the quality of life remain the same for our citizens.

We’ve had a grand time and are proud to be a major player in the New Albany arts community. We can’t wait to see what

wonderful, artful “hap-penings” occur in the next twenty years and are looking forward to our role in those events.

And wait until you see what we have in store for 2013!

Coming up on Febru-ary 23, all Central Ohio children ages 8-15 years

are invited to try out for this year’s Junior Musical production, The Little Mermaid Jr. Auditions are held at Broadway Bound Dance Centre from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Audition packets can be found on our website beginning in January. The Little Mer-maid Jr. will be presented July 12-14, 2013 at the

Jeanne B. McCoy Center. We will also hold our

Third Annual Youth Piano Competition on April 6, open to New Albany students grades K-12. A Winner’s Recital will follow, showcasing the incredible talent found within the youth of our city.

On June 30, come with us as we take a trip down memory lane with the New Albany Chorus and Community Band, celebrating our organiza-tion’s 20th anniversary through song. We will perform music from our past, while looking forward to making music for many more years to come.

Will you be a Part of the Arts in our communi-ty? Join the New Albany Arts Council today or find out more about our programs and events at www.naarts.org. You might just find one that’s a PERFECT fit for your artistic talent!

Happy Twentieth Birthday to Us!

In August 1974 the New Albany-Plain Township Histori-cal society was organized by area residents interested in lo-cal history. A New Albany High School Social Studies teacher, Rudy Sever, was a guiding force, and the local newspa-per, the New Albany Plain News, was the main means of publicity. In 1975 the new society was officially incorpo-rated, officers were elected, and regular monthly meetings were scheduled. Following the New Albany’s successful 1976 Bicentennial celebration, the Historical Society decided to organize another festival event in 1977, and that celebration, which was called “Founders Day”, became an annual com-munity event, growing bigger and more popular every year. It is still a highlight of the year, occurring on the third Saturday of May every spring in New Albany on the campus of the elementary school.

The Society’s main purposes is to bring together people interested in the history of New Albany and Plain Township. A major function of the Society is to collect material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of our area, includ-ing diaries, journals, maps, photographs, and other objects illustrative of life, events and activities of the past. The Society wishes to make such materials available to students

and other interested residents and scholars. The Society has published nine pamphlets on various people and places in Plain Township. These are available at the Ealy House.

The Society has been re-sponsible for the installation of six Ohio State Historical Mark-ers in Plain Township. These commemorate (1) the Smith Burying Ground on 62 just north of Clouse Road, which includes the graves of two Revolutionary War veterans; (2) the Wagnor cemetery on Cen-tral College Road, on the site of the first school; (3) Archibald Smith’s Mill, on Kitzmiller road; (4) the Founders of New Albany, near the intersection of High and Main Streets, honor-ing Noble Landon and William Yantis; (5) the historic division of Federal lands in Plain Town-ship (near the K-1 school); and (6) the George and Christina Ealy House and Land.

In 2004, the Society ac-quired the 1860 George and Christina Ealy House at 6359 Dublin-Granville Road. George Ealy was a member of the second generation of a pioneer family which settled in Plain Township in 1830. He was a prosperous famer and operator of a sawmill on Rose Run behind the Ealy House. The building is important for its historical associations, transitional architecture, and its fine wood and brick work

produced by local craftsmen. The Ealy House was entered on the National Register in 2008. It is open to the public for tours on special occasions, including Founders Day, July Fourth, and other holidays. Many school classes and a number of Scout troops and other organizations

have had tours of this historical house.

New members are welcome. Membership dues are reason-able. Society meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month. Members receive a newsletter every other month, with details about upcoming

meetings and special events, and with articles on New Albany and Plain Township his-tory. More information is avail-able on the New Albany-Plain Township website at www.newalbanyhistory.info.

The public is invited to visit the Ealy House when it is open for tours on Friday, November 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Sunday, December 2, also from 1 to 3 p.m.

Insurance Office of Central Ohio has the facts you need to know

The cost of going without

FACT #1. Most long term care is received at home, not in a nursing home. In fact, 43% of long term care insurance claim benefi ts paid to individuals covered home care (and only 24% paid for nursing home care).*

FACT #2. One signifi cant way to save on long term care insurance protec on is to take advantage of available discounts. People in good health can save. You can lock in these savings even when your health changes. Less than half (44%) of people between 50 and 59 qualify, and that percentage declines at older ages. Why not see if you qualify now?

FACT #3. Married couples can save on long term care insurance, some mes even when only one person is protected. And with new “shared care” op ons, two people can actually share each other’s coverage. Less money . . . more benefi t . . . worth considering.

FACT #4. You rou nely insure against poten al nega ve events, yet your chance of requiring some type of long term care is far greater.

THE COST OF GOING WITHOUT

People considering LTC insurance o en believe that they will be be er off inves ng the premium dollars and using those invested dollars to pay for long term care services. Are they correct?

Consider a 48 year old female acquiring a LTC policy with a $5,000 per month benefi t for 48months, with a 3% compound infl a on rider. The annual premium for this would be $1,379.

Assume the woman lives to age 83 and only needs LTC for the last 36 months of her life.

If she invested $1,379 each year for 32 years (un l age 80) and realized a 5% annual rate of return, she would have accumulated $ 109,029 (pre-tax) to pay her long term care expenses.

If she purchases the LTC policy, her monthly benefi t will have increased to $12,504, and for the 36 months (not the full benefi t of 48 months (not the full benefi t of 48 months (not the full benefi t ofmonths) the total benefi ts she will receive are $450,144 tax free.

Why Consider Long Term Care Insurance Now?

INSURANCEOFFICE OF CENTRAL OHIO

Professional Advice • Personal Service

Key considerations• You’re probably not covered.

Many people mistakenly be-lieve they are covered for long-term care, but this assistance is not typically covered by your health or long-term disability insurance

• Ideally, planning begins be-tween ages 45-55, when you are young and healthy enough to qualify for discounts.

• 75% of people over age 65 will eventually need LTC.

• 40% of people receiving LTC are under age 65.

• Long-term care doesn’t mean nursing home care. Most long-term care benefits paid covered home care.

• LTC adjusts to fit your budget. It’s critical to put some level of protection in place.

Consider a 48 year old female who has a LTC policy with a $5,000 monthly benefit for 48 months with a 3% compound inflation rider.

If she invested the premium of $1,379 each year for 32 years (until age 80), realizing a 5% annual return, she would have accumulated $109,029 (pre-tax) to pay LTC expenses.

If she purchases the LTC policy, the monthly benefit will have increased

to $12,504 and for the 36 months (average length of claim, not the full benefit period of 48 months), the total benefits she will receive are $450,144 tax free.

Kate & Tony Thomas New Albany Realty220 Market Street, Ste DNew Albany (614) 939-1234NewAlbanyOhio.com

Local Realtors, Kate & Tony Thomas with New Albany Realty, recently hosted their 12th An-nual Holiday Toy Drive and Client Appreciation Event. Over 350 past clients, friends and their families participated in this year’s event, a private screening of “Wreck-It Ralph” at the AMC Easton Theatres. Fire fighters, Chris Pabst and John Cabus, of the Plain Township Fire Depart-ment Station #121 at-tended the event to help to collect the toys. Fire Fighter Pabst said, “This event hosted by Kate and Tony is a great way to kick off our Fire Fight-ers For Kids holiday toy drive. The generosity of the families attending is really appreciated”. Scott Miller with PrimeLend-ing, has helped to spon-sor this event with Kate and Tony each year since they began hosting it.

While they don’t have an official count, Kate estimates that the fami-lies attending the event have donated 5,000 toys to the Fire Department’s Toy Drive over the past 12 years. It all started 12 years ago when Kate and Tony were looking for a way to thank their clients for supporting their real estate business and de-cided that a family movie party was the way to go. They wanted to com-bine it with something that would also benefit the larger community. Since the event is always in November, and it’s a family event, Kate and Tony decided to include a holiday toy drive and have always partnered with the Plain Local Fire Department.

A lot has changed

since Kate and Tony’s first movie party was held in November, 2001 with the opening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Their children, Katherine and Will, were still children. “I remember the kids collecting toys with the fire fighters wearing their sorcerer hats and Harry Potter glasses. Now they are both adults living and working in NYC. Further-more, some of our first clients now bring their grandchildren since their own kids have also grown up”, says Kate.

What has never changed is Kate and Tony’s commitment to giving back to their com-munity. Kate and Tony, along with their team, also support Habitat for Humanity, The Home-less Families Founda-tion, and the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Tony says, “We are blessed to work and live in such a great community and are re-ally pleased to be able to volunteer and give back any way we can.”

As a result of their out-standing customer ser-

vice, exceptional results, acknowledged work ethic and market knowledge, Kate and Tony Thomas have been leading Real-tors in central Ohio for 14 years. They are continu-ally among those at the pinnacle of production in real estate sales, and have been honored with numerous awards for their hard work and dedication. Kate and

Tony are members of the Elite Referral and Coaching Network, CKG International, where they just returned from the annual conference in Las Vegas. In 2011, Kate and Tony ranked sixth in sales production in the greater Columbus area for residential real estate, and first for production at New Albany Realty.

You can reach Kate

and Tony Thomas through their websites, www.NewAlbanyOhio.com and www.Greater-ColumbusRealEstate.com or by calling (614) 939-1234. Stop by and visit their office at New Albany Realty on Market Street in New Albany any time. They look forward to assisting you with all of your real estate needs.

The Granville Inn314 E. BroadwayGranville(740) 587-3333granvilleinn.com

In 1923 coal and railroad magnate John Sutphin Jones commissioned the construction of The Granville Inn on the site of the Granville Female Col-lege, which had closed its doors in 1898. Frank L. Packard, a prominent Colum-bus architect, designed the stone and half-timber structure in the Jacobethan Revival style. All the sandstone was quar-ried at Jones’ nearby estate, Bryn Du.

Eighty-eight years later, the Granville Inn’s old-world charm, hand-cut oak paneling, sense of history and rural hos-pitality continue to make it a destination for great escapes.

The Inn boasts an award-winning restaurant, the Oak Room, as well as the casual Acorn Pub, seasonal covered patio and outdoor Biergarten. The Inn’s wine list has won kudos each year since

2005 and has been singled out for special mention in Wine Spectator for the past two years. With 30 overnight rooms including three suites, plus seven private event rooms, the Inn is the perfect place for a wedding, reunion, conference, or weekend getaway.

The Inn’s newest addition is the Chef’s Table Wine Shop, located off the car-riage courtyard in the oldest part of the building. With an extensive collection of unique wines from all over the world, the Chef’s Table may also be reserved for a special one-of-a-kind dining experience.

The Inn’s calendar is replete with events to suit any taste and budget. Monthly events include Wine Wednes-days, the first and third Wednesday of each month, and Craft Beer Thursdays, the second and fourth Thursdays. Cross-roads Music Night is the fourth Monday of each month, when the Inn hosts great duos in the Acorn Pub. The full event schedule is available on the Inn’s website at www.granvillein.com.

Columbus-based restaurant chain capitalizes on food truck craze with New Albany location

Steak Escape Sandwich Grill5371 New Albany Rd.New Albany(614) 933-8800www.steakescape.com

Business development and innovation are not new concepts to the New Albany community, but folks living and working in the area now have access to a fresh restaurant concept in the Giant Eagle pla-za at New Albany Road and St. Rt. 161. Steak Escape Sandwich Grill is the first location in the innovative next generation of Columbus-based Steak Escape restaurants.

With its food-truck vibe, colorful and fresh food line and made-to-order menu, Steak Escape Sandwich Grill still de-livers the same mouth-watering cheesesteak and fresh-cut fries made famous by the parent company. Franchisee Jeff Jeffers explains, “It has been terrific to be involved in the R&D of a fresh new approach to a product that has had a cult-like following over the years. This interpretation of the food truck craze has been really well re-ceived. By sticking to our roots, we’ve seen customers who are familiar with the traditional Steak Escapes come in and ask for “Old School” menu items, like Cheesesteak Mignon. The original concept of the chain

was a grill-to-hand kind of experience; and, by returning to that approach, we’ve had lots of new folks who are psyched about building a fresh, cus-tomized salad or a delicious sandwich with their favorite ingredients.”

“I am hooked on the veggie bowl, and thank goodness, my kids love Steak Escape, too,” comments a mom at the drive-thru window. “The kids’ meals are larger and more satisfy-ing than we typically get at a fast food restaurant, and the S’mores are a big hit!” With kids’ meals priced at less than $4 and satisfying salads and sand-wiches priced below $6, Steak Escape Sandwich Grill is sure to be a hit with the whole family.

Store manager, Jeff Messen-ger has appreciated getting to know the community. “New Al-

bany residents, business people and community leaders have not only embraced our location but they have supported, en-couraged, and seem genuinely interested in our success. From the high school kids behind our line to the docs who run in for a quick and healthy lunch, the mood is hip, happy and friendly. It’s been a phenomenal start!”

In recent weeks, the New Albany Steak Escape Sandwich Grill has rolled out several com-munity partnerships, including “Grill for Good,” a fundraising option for schools, churches and other non-profits. Simple in it’s approach, “Grill for Good” allows a group to select a day on which 10% of “Grill for Good” sales are returned to the organization.

“The calendar is filling up,”

reports an enthusiastic Jeff Messenger. “Having the ability to give back to a community who has been so supportive from our start means a lot to everyone here.”

“We have engaged in a more comprehensive program with New Albany Schools,” continues Messenger. “For the remainder of the school year, when a guest brings a ticket from a New Albany Schools sporting event, 10% of that sale will be returned to the New Albany High School Athletic program.”

“If you haven’t stopped by, we hope you will soon,” com-

ments the Franchisee, Jeff Jef-fers. “Our goal is to become this community’s favorite locally owned, quality fast food / food truck choice.”

ABOUT STEAK ESCAPE: Founded in 1982 in Colum-bus, Ohio, Steak Escape is the originator of the Cheesesteak quick-serve concept. It stakes its reputation on fresh-grilled Cheesesteaks, Fresh-cut Fries, a variety of fresh-grilled spe-cialty sandwiches, salads and Smashed Potatoes. For more information visit www.steakes-cape.com.

New Albany Ballet Company5051 Forest Drive New Albany(614) 939-9058www.newalbanyballet-company.com

The New Albany Ballet Company has become one of the State’s pre-mier dance training schools. Our programing is nationally recognized and students from NABC have continued training with the American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Houston Ballet, San Fran-cisco Ballet, and various other companies across the nation. Our ballet students are provided with exceptional training, professional performing opportunities, and a car-ing and qualified faculty. Our programs begin for children as young as two years old and continue into adult programs. Bal-let students are carefully guided through our ballet syllabus and properly prepared for the ballet world.

Although 80% of our 650 students train in ballet, NABC also offers students the best tap, jazz, modern, and hip hop classes. Programs

are run by qualified and experienced teach-ers. Tap, jazz, modern, and hip hop classes are given the same attention, professional performing experience, and car-ing environment. These classes are fun, energetic, and a great experience for not only the “non-ballet” student, but for ballet students wanting to broaden their dance training.

What makes NABC different from other local dance schools is our facility, faculty, our children’s division, and

our recitals. Our facility was built

for dance with profes-sional sprung flooring, wide open mirrors, and comfortable areas for parents to wait for their dancers. We house our own dancewear boutique and café.

Our faculty is more qualified than other teachers in the area and have either danced in professional compa-nies, graduated from top ranked dance depart-ments, and hold BFAS, Masters, and PHDs. Each teacher is dedicated to

each student and pro-vides the best experience possible. Whether your child seeks dance as a profession or just for fun; the teacher values and cares for each child ac-cordingly.

Our children’s division teachers provide a great first experience to dance. They incorporate color-ful tutus, themed props, theatrical dances, and child friendly experi-ences. Our children’s division has grown to include 250 young danc-ers ages 2-5 years old, and gives parents the

choice of several week-day morning, afternoon, evening, and Saturday classes. We structure our classes so 2-year-old students train only with 2-year-old students; 3-year-old students only with 3-year-old students and on up. A 2-year-old student requires a dif-ferent class then a 3- or 4-year-old child. The classes are also limited to 30-minute sessions for 2- year-old students and 45- to 60-minute sessions for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old students. Expecting a 2-year-old child to focus for more than 30 minutes on dance is not something NABC feels is best for the child. Our children’s division of-fers combination dance classes for the child three to five years old in ballet,

tap, jazz and hip-hop.All students have the

opportunity to perform in the May recitals. There are five ninety minute re-citals held at the Jeanne B McCoy Center for the Arts. Tickets for the recit-als are sold at the ballet school. Parents have the ability to purchase as many reserved tickets as they need. We do not charge a family recital fee. Our recitals are staged by a professional stage and lighting com-pany and have a much more professional look and feel then the average dance school.

We welcome the op-portunity to show you the wonderful programs we offer and encourage you to bring your child out to try a class at any time.

The Callard Company5780 Zarley St.New Albany(614) 933-0303www.callard.com

Since 1987, Callard Com-pany has helped its clients to achieve their corporate goals — gain market share, recog-nize employees, launch new products and services, and promote goodwill throughout the community.

When Kaye Callard founded the business, she stood for everything quality. Same is true today with current owners Michelle Guetle and Jenni-fer Walsh who acquired the business in 2009. Quality and reputation is what is most important to our success as the business grows and our services expand.

As a full service promotional company, Callard offers a very creative approach to promo-tional programs and marketing support. We know what works and how to get the job done. No matter how large or small the project, Callard will offer creative ideas and services, and package them in a way that delivers results.

We realize that our clients’ have less time to manage their work load so our job is to be that consultative resource. We

partner with our clients to offer more than just providing a promotional prod-uct or an award. Can we help with providing a web store to manage an employee uniform program? Can we handle all the printing and fulfill-ment of your sales collateral and sales kits? Can we store the extra campaign merchandise in our warehouse and drop ship to your locations when needed? Yes, we can and we do it every day.

One major trend that we are seeing is the need for turn-key web program solutions for em-ployee recognition, staff uniforms, sales incentives and safety programs. Callard administers all the details, providing a hassle free pro-gram by providing the com-plete account package: custom graphics, products, website, warehousing and fulfillment services. Our online web programs offer robust report-ing, which allows our clients

to manage budgets by user, department or divisions. We like to think of it as an admin-istrator’s dream come true.

What’s new? It’s what every client asks.

It’s all about staying cutting edge with new ideas or even creating a custom product with overseas production. Our

sales team attends the national product shows and partici-pates in monthly idea rallies with our preferred suppliers to preview the latest and the greatest! Since we have such a diverse client base - including retail, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing, technology - these venues provide a great way for our team to present successful case studies across

the board. The top trends in the

industry start with technol-ogy products – anything that compliments your iphone or tablet such as a carry case, stylus pen or wireless speakers. Apparel continues to be a top gift request, especially if it’s a name brand – Nike, American Apparel or North Face.

We are also seeing a strong increase in demand for Made in America products, and with increasing product options throughout the industry that is an easy request to fulfill.

Companies want a creative promotional idea that is a little unexpected but still functional. Our goal is to deliver a product that strategically supports their initiative whether it’s a promo-tional promotion or employee incentives. At the end of the day, it’s our job to make our cli-ents look good and make their lives easier with our creative ideas and extra services.

Callard is a certified wom-en’s owned business headquar-tered in New Albany, Ohio and satellite offices in Oregon and Montana. Visit our office and experience a creatively differ-ent showroom or shop online at www.callard.com.

The Callard Company takes their services beyond promotional merchandise

The Callard facility is over 10,000 square feet, offering a product show-room, warehouse space, along with office space to accommodate a growing team of 20 staff members.

Audio Visual Communica-tion Systems (AVCS) has been providing state-of-the-art user-friendly technologies for 25 years. Michael Zajd, BSEE, the president of the firm, has spent his entire career in the audio/video industry and his mission thru AVCS, is to offer the best customer service prior to, during and after the system installation.

With today’s modern home consisting of many differ-ent systems, they cannot be known as just being the “A/V guy”. Therefore, they are truly Low Voltage Systems Integra-tors. The systems consist of many different venues and it is their job to coordinate them all.

The systems installed range from custom designed audio video systems, satel-lite installation, computer networks, security, security cameras, phone systems and whole home control systems. Whether you simply need a flat screen TV hung over a fireplace

or want a luxurious dedicated home theater, AVCS will deliver products and services to satisfy your needs and within your budget, whether it is $1,000 or $100,000.

Michael and his staff come to your home and work with

you, your architect and/or interior designer to design a system that will not only func-tion well, but will be integrated with the decor of the home. As custom installers, they special-ize in getting the project done right, no matter what chal-

lenges are encountered. Although there are numer-

ous custom AV companies and big box stores in the area, AVCS is unique in that they develop on-going relationships with their clients and are there to support them, long after the

installation. Today, many of AVCS’s new projects are from repeat customers, wanting to upgrade their systems or refer-rals received from them.

After 25 years in business, many clients have come back to Michael over and over as they upgrade or move into new homes.
