Since our founding in 1949, we have seen some pretty incredible years at Cornwall Manor. But I would have to rank 2015 as one of the busiest—and most rewarding.

In February we welcomed residents to the newest residential living apartment building, the Carriage House. Our personal care facility, Corson Hall, received its fifth consecutive deficiency-free inspec-tion and our health center received its third deficiency-free inspec-tion. And of course the most exciting achievement in 2015 was the opening of the new resident-focused skilled nursing facility in December. This long-awaited dream would not have been realized without the vision, persistence, and generosity of so many people. Our residents contributed $4 million toward the $6 million that was raised—which is a remarkable feat. Our employees, family members and friends – especially the Cornwall Manor Society – made it possible to not only have a beautiful new building – but more importantly—to have a living environment that provides dig-nity, engagement and quality care to all of our health center resi-dents. The tremendous success of the Future Fund was achieved through a variety of gift vehicles—from outright gifts to charitable gift annuities to stock gifts and bequests.

In addition to the generous gifts to the Future Fund, we also re-ceived gifts totaling over $230,000 for our annual benevolent care commitment, as well as gifts for new trees; books for the Gateway library; equipment for the fitness center, health center and Corson Hall; and programs and concerts for our residents.

The theme of this donor annual report is “Giving. Caring. Grow-ing.” We are blessed to have so many generous residents and friends who support our mission, who care about our residents, and who are helping us to grow to provide quality care and ser-vices for the residents who live here today and those who will live here in the future.

To everyone listed in this donor report—please know that your gift was important and valued. Thank you.

With deepest appreciation,

The programs and services that comprise Cornwall Manor’s ministry of caring would not be possi-ble without the generous support of many individuals and organizations. It is with deep appreciation that we acknowledge the commitment of those who made contributions to benefit the Cornwall Manor community. The names listed below are for gifts for benevolent care, the Future Fund Cam-paign for the new health center, sponsorships, and gifts for capital items that were made from Janu-ary 1, 2015, through December 31, 2015. Donors who made honor or memorial gifts are listed in the Honor or Memorial sections that begin on page 6 (please see the table of contents on page 2). We are extremely grateful for your support.

The Gateway Library Honor Book Program offers an opportunity for individuals to make a contribution to purchase books—best sellers or books of interest— in honor or memory of a resident, or just to provide books for the library. These contributions are listed in the monthly Neighborhood News in “The Library Shelf” article.

The beauty of Cornwall Manor’s campus is en-hanced with the planting of a variety of trees through gifts made in honor or memory of loved ones from residents, family and friends as well as through the Jo-seph and Grace Tom Tree Fund.

A complete list of trees that have been donated to Corn-wall Manor is kept in a pub-lication, which is updated by Cornwall Manor’s Develop-ment Office. There are two tree books—one is in the Ad-ministration Office Building (waiting room area) and the other is kept in the Fireside Room (adjacent to the Free-man Community Center).

Pictured here is one of three ap-ple trees planted by a donor in memory of family members in 2015.

The Buckingham Society is named for Mrs. Margaret Coleman Buckingham, who stated in her will that she wished her prop-erty (now Cornwall Manor) be used for “a charitable purpose” and is considered Cornwall Manor’s first philanthropist. Membership in the Buckingham Society is based on a donor’s philanthropic commit-ment to Cornwall Manor’s mission and ministry. It is with deep appreciation that we honor those listed for their dedication to our community’s tra-dition of caring and commitment to providing peace of mind to residents through the provision of benevolent care. New members are italicized.

Cornwall Manor’s Future Fund capital campaign, “Health. Heart. Home. Building for

Cornwall Manor’s Future,” was launched in October 2010. At the 2015 Founders Day

Dinner, the campaign had surpassed its $5 million goal by raising more than $5.9 million.

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of many residents, family members, employees,

volunteers and friends the campaign raised $6,022,412 by the end of 2015.

Curtis Walizer, Cornwall Manor Board Chairperson (standing left) and Steven Hassinger, Corn-wall Manor President (standing right) congratulate the 2015 Founders Day Recipients, George and Betty Matthews.

Benevolent Care—The provision of assistance to residents who have limited or depleted financial resources—the heart of Cornwall Manor’s mission. Gifts made to benevolent care are used toward current benevolent care costs.

Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care —The entire gift is placed in the endowment fund, and the interest that is earned by the Endowment Fund each year is used to offset benevolent care costs

Honor Book Program—Gifts made to the Honor Book Program purchase new books for the Gate-way Library.

Memorial or Tribute Gifts—Gifts can be made in honor or memory of someone.

Ralph L. Weik Memorial Scholarship Fund—In memory of Cornwall Manor employee Ralph Weik, this fund provides schol-arships to employees and their dependents for continuing educa-tion. Photo on right: Jarrod Cruise, left and Andrew Fox, right stand with President Hassinger on the Buckingham Mansion porch after receiving scholarships from the Ralph L. Weik Memorial Scholarship Fund in July 2015.

All gifts are tax-deductible.

The official registration and financial information of Cornwall Manor may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling toll-free, 1-800-732-0999. Registration does not imply

endorsement.

Other specific items such as memorial trees, benches, equipment or capital projects can be provided through gifts. Photo on left: This bench was do-nated in honor of Bonnie West and Martie Lobb by the Cornwall Manor Society. The bench sits just outside the West Entrance to the new health center.

Cash/Outright Gifts—An outright gift can come in the form of cash or securities and can be used for the Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care, whereby the principal of the gift is invested and the income is used to provide assistance for residents with limited resources; for current benevolent sup-port, where the gift is used for current needs; or for capital items such as trees, books, or equipment. Gifts can be made by sending a check to the Cornwall Manor Development Office or online. Become a “GEM” (Give Every Month) and make a monthly gift.

Online and Credit Card Gifts—There are two ways to make an online gift to Cornwall Manor— through a credit card or electronic funds transfer from your savings or checking account. You may designate your gift for Benevolent Care, the Endowment Fund, or another purpose. You can also make your gift in honor of memory of someone.

Securities—Gifts of stocks or bonds not only benefit Cornwall Manor but can also reduce or elimi-nate capital gains tax. If the securities that you wish to gift have decreased in value below their origi-nal cost, it may be better to sell the security and give the proceeds from the sale as your gift.

Bequests—Naming a charitable organization such as Cornwall Manor as a beneficiary in a will is probably the most common, and for some individuals, the easiest, way to provide a gift. You can des-ignate a specific gift amount or percentage of the estate, and also indicate how you wish your gift to be used by Cornwall Manor. If you want your gift to be used for the Endowment Fund for Benevo-lent Care, it is necessary to specifically state that in your will. If you wish your gift to be used for Cornwall Manor’s general purposes, the language can simply say "for Cornwall Manor."

Charitable Gift Annuities—A charitable gift annuity is a gift vehicle whereby a donor transfers cash or securities to a charitable organization and in return receives fixed payments based on the donor’s age, as well as a charitable deduction for a portion of the initial gift. In the Cornwall Manor Charita-ble Gift Annuity program, the minimum gift amount is $10,000 and can be used to support Benevo-lent Care or the Endowment Fund. Contact the Cornwall Manor Development Office for current Gift Annuity Rates.
