St. Bernadette, Pray For Us
Fr Harry Buseness
As I write these lines, I have just returned from celebrating my first school Mass of the year with the children of St. Bernadette School. I am always uplifted and energized by this experience. Children enter a new school year with optimism and enthusiasm, ready to spend time with their friends again and to embark on a new journey of learning in a new class. Their energy and enthusiasm are contagious.
We are also preparing for our Wednesday evening PRE Classes for grade school children who do not attend Catholic School. If you have children in need of religious instructions, you may call Sue Reed to sign them up for this opportunity.
Recently, I have been interviewing a number of people who are interested in becoming Catholic. They are at various stages in their lives, but at this time, they feel the call to grow closer to God and to pursue this journey in the Catholic Church. They will begin a class and process to support their faith journey in a couple of weeks. If you know of anyone who might be interested in pursuing this journey along with us, please have them call me or Deacon Subby Enzolera to discuss their interest and to sign up.
Soon, we will begin our second session of the ChristLife program. I understand that over fifty fellow parishioners have decided to continue this journey into the second phase, Following Christ. We will repeat the first session, Discovering Christ, in January.
All of the above information says that there is a significant number of people who are very serious about continuing to grow in their faith as we begin this new academic year. I invite you to join them in some way. You can do this by recommitting yourself to practicing your faith by attending Sunday Mass, and trying to attend daily Mass during the week. Make a greater effort to include prayer in your family’s routine or set aside a specific time each day for your personal prayer. God is always calling us to a closer relationship. As we resume the more routine schedule of the school year, it is a perfect time to consider how you are responding to His continuing call.

Vocations
THE FIRST SEMINARY IS IN THE HOME - Fostering a vocation starts from your child’s earliest years, in the atmosphere you and your spouse create in the home. Saint Pope John Paul II wrote, "Christian parents, demonstrating a loving care for their children from their earliest years, communicate to them, by word and example, a sincere and lived-out relationship with God, made up of love, fidelity, prayer and obedience. In the light of this horizon of divine grace and human responsibility, the family can be considered a "garden" or a "first seminary" in which the seeds of vocation, which God sows generously, are able to blossom and grow to full maturity.” This week pray for Seminarian Jared Ludwig read his vocations story and biography at https://archomaha.org/ministries/vocations/seminary/Jared-Ludwig/ “As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” These words form the last words that Joshua leaves the people of Israel; let us also embrace these words that we, too, may live in freedom. (Joshua 24:15) If you are feeling called as a priest, religious, or deacon, call Father Harry Buse at 402‐731‐4694 or email: [email protected].
