The Normandy Landings/D-Day

• AKA D-Day, June 6, 1944

• Allied forces land on the beaches of Normandy, which opens a second front in Europe

• This is the turning point of World War II and eventually leads to Germany’s surrender (known as V-E Day)

The Atomic Bombs

• Manhattan Project: US secretly developed atomic bomb during WWII

• Fat Man and Little Boy (atomic bombs) were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in August 1945

• The destruction led to Japan’s surrender and V-J Day
