ONUBAFRUIT – History

• In 2004 seven of Spain’s largest soft fruit growers had a bold vision to combine their efforts to create a company to more effectively market their fruit in European markets: Onubafruit was created.

• Target: To generate a formula of joint marketing that combines an important part of the production from Spain, with an offer capable of satisfying the needs of our customers, eliminating intermediaries that do not add value, in order to improve the profitability of the farmers during the time.

• We sell 100% of the production of our associates.

• Only own production is commercialized.

• Turnover 2010: 120 million euros (95% from berries)

Who are we?

• Around 400 growers• 6 packhouses in Huelva• Total fresh production from our growers :

– 38.000t strawberries– 6.000t raspberries– 500t blackberries – 1.500t blueberries– 20.000t citrus– 1.500t kakis persimon and sharon fruit.– 2.000t stonefruit (peaches, nectarines and plumbs)

• Technical departments of the associates integrated in one managed by Onubafruit.

• All associates are members of a company that manages purchase of inputs.

Research & Development

• Development of residue free productions. We are collaborating with Syngenta.

• Onubafruit have a reciprocal R&D agreements with some companies aimed at exchanging developments to benefit businesses.

• Onubafruit work closely with various breeding programmes Worldwide. These developments include exclusive production of Erika primocane raspberries and blackberries.

• On strawberries we are developing varieties with very good flavour as Eliany and Sasha.

• We are also trialling production of red & blackcurrants and desert gooseberries.

Objectives• Consolidation of position as largest winter season raspberry

supplier. Key to this will be the development of primocane to balance floricane strength & the ongoing replacement of Glen Lyon.

• Development of 9 month blackberry supply (Oct to Jun)

• Development of better flavoured strawberries.

• Development of residue free production across all lines.

• To continue adding efficiency, transparency and truth in the system.

• To add value to our customers and profit to our growers.
