OCTOBER 4, 2019 Weekly Memo Action Items Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) Conference The seven regional CARD centers and the Partnership for Effective Programs for Students with Autism will be hosting their 27th annual statewide conference. The CARD conference will be in Orlando on January 17-20, 2020. The early bird rate will be ending on October 11, 2019. Prior to the conference, the Statewide Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) District Contacts meeting will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on January 16, 2020 (details will be forthcoming), and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2) training, for those evaluating students with ASD, will be on January 16-17, 2020.   • Virtual College WeekFlorida Virtual Campus has officially opened registration for Virtual College Week, a live three-day webinar event on October 28-30, 2019. This no-cost webinar is designed to help students prepare for life after high school. There will be speakers from around the state to discuss the admissions process, financial aid, online courses and dual enrollment. Each speaker is being asked to prepare a 30-minute presentation and then there will be a live question and answer session.     BEESS Welcomes New Staff Member The Dispute Resolution and Monitoring unit is pleased to welcome Sarah L. Maxwell in the role of program specialist IV. She comes to BEESS with over 10 years of experience in exceptional student education (ESE). Sarah has worked as an ESE Department chair and Special Olympics coordinator at a local high school. She taught at the high school level for six years, the middle school level for one year, and the elementary school level for the last three years. Sarah can be reached at [email protected].
