Action Items
Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) ConferenceThe
seven regional CARD centers and the Partnership for Effective
Programs for Students with Autism will be hosting their 27th annual
statewide conference. The CARD conference will be in Orlando on
January 17-20, 2020. The early bird rate will be ending on October
11, 2019. Prior to the conference, the Statewide Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD) District Contacts meeting will be from 1:00 to 5:00
p.m. on January 16, 2020 (details will be forthcoming), and the
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2)
training, for those evaluating students with ASD, will be on

Working with the Experts (WWE) for Speech-Language Pathologists
(SLP)Registration is now open for two SLP events. The first event,
“Accelerating Phonological Change for Preschool and School Age
Children with Severe Phonological Disorders,” presented by Teresa
Farnham, M.A., CCC/SLP, will be in Jacksonville on October 25,
2019. Registration for this event will close on October 15, 2019.
The second event, “Dynamic Assessment in Schools: A Toolbox for
SLPs,” presented by Marie Ireland, CCC/SLP, will be in Orlando on
November 2, 2019. Registration for this event will close on October
21, 2019. Coordinators will register participants for their

Working with the Experts (WWE) for Occupational and Physical
Therapists (OT and PT) in Collaboration with Project 10
Registration is now open for “Supporting Successful Transition
to Adulthood: The Role of OT and PT in Transition Services,”
presented by Jessica Kramer, OTR/L, Ph.D. The session dates and
locations are as follows: October 25, 2019, in Chipley; November 8,
2019, in Ft. Lauderdale; and November 15, 2019, in Lakeland. Please
pre-register therapists as soon as possible, as district limits are
not being imposed, so we anticipate the events will fill quickly.

Virtual College WeekFlorida Virtual Campus has officially opened
registration for Virtual College Week, a live three-day webinar
event on October 28-30, 2019. This no-cost webinar is designed to
help students prepare for life after high school. There will be
speakers from around the state to discuss the admissions process,
financial aid, online courses and dual enrollment. Each speaker is
being asked to prepare a 30-minute presentation and then there will

BEESS Welcomes New Staff Member The Dispute Resolution and
Monitoring unit is pleased to welcome Sarah L. Maxwell in the role
of program specialist IV. She comes to BEESS with over 10 years of
experience in exceptional student education (ESE). Sarah has worked
as an ESE Department chair and Special Olympics coordinator at a
local high school. She taught at the high school level for six
years, the middle school level for one year, and the elementary
school level for the last three years. Sarah can be reached at

they have been pre-registered and asking them to complete their
