    Office of Special Education Program (OSEP) GrantsTwo OSEP grants received funding: Project SPECIAL and Project INCLUDE. Project SPECIAL is an interdisciplinary program leading to either a master’s in special education or an educational specialist degree in school psychology with an emphasis on intensive interventions for students with persistent and severe learning and behavior challenges. Project INCLUDE is for a doctoral program that creates a consortium with Arizona State University and Syracuse University focusing

    WHEREAS, Florida's communities are working together to provide education on Trauma-Informed Care and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to promote the health and well-being of our residents; and

    WHEREAS, trauma is a widespread, harmful and costly public health problem that occurs as a result of violence, abuse, neglect, loss, disaster, war and other emotionally harmful experiences; and

    WHEREAS, trauma is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful, leaving lasting effects on the mental, physical, social, emotional or spiritual well-being of a person regardless of age, race, gender or socioeconomic status; and

    WHERAS, Trauma-Informed Care is the adoption of principles and practices that promote a culture of safety, empowerment and healing, and involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of all forms of trauma; and

    WHEREAS, as chair of the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet and through her "Hope for Healing Florida" program, First Lady Casey Desantis is working alongside state agencies to improve the health, safety, economic stability and quality of life of Florida's children and families; and

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Desantis, Governor of the State of Florida, do hereby extend my support and appreciation to all who serve victims of trauma and recognize November 1, 2019, as Florida Trauma-Informed Care Day.
