Dual Enrollment - Requirements

For College Algebra (MAC1105):

� ACT/SAT/PERT/CPT scores are NOT required

� AP courses DO require minimum FSA-10 Reading scores

and/or Math scores (level 4 or 5 in appropriate area; no less than 3

in any area)

� Norm Referenced testing can be used instead if applicable (ie: Stanine) or PSAT or PLAN

� No minimum GPA required

� AP courses require prior success of a “C” or higher in academic courses

at honors or AP level

� Students earning a grade of “A” in a previous standard course in the subject area may

be recommended for Honors or AP

Students may NOT drop a course due to difficulty. Students who earn a grade of D or F at the

end of the semester cannot drop the course unless parent conferences with teacher each

grading period (required) and student seeking consistent academic assistance from teacher

(required) has produced less than a “C” for the semester.

Students should monitor their grades in

Home Access Center (HAC) *Best practice is once a week!

�Arrange your parent communication with teachers at Interims, don’t wait until the semester is close to ending.

�Review teacher Edmodo sites for times of assistance outside of the classroom

�Student can attend LINK tutoring sessions during lunches - Room 755 , Ms. Jeffreys

�Students can attend NHS tutoring before school at 8:40 am and again from 4:00 to 5:00 pm on Tuesdays - Main Library , Ms. Huber

Tracking and Recovery

� Students can retake classes in which they earned a “D” or “F” andreplace it with the new grade.

� All grades do appear on the transcript, but forgiven grades are notincluded in GPA calculation.

� Juniors should complete grade forgiveness now, before thebeginning of their senior year.

First Time In College (FTIC) student will be considered as meeting minimum State University System (SUS) eligibility requirements in Florida in one of the following ways:

� An FTIC student has a high school GPA of 3.00 or higher on a 4.0 scale as calculated by the university AND presents official SAT and/or ACT scores.

OR� An FTIC student has a high school GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 on a 4.0

scale as calculated by the university AND MUST ALSO achieve minimum scores for each SAT test or ACT (with writing on each) as outlined below:

�SAT C/R 460 and Math 460 and Writing 440

�ACT C/R 19 and Math 19 and Writing 18

If a student meets either scenarios above, a Florida university is granted the

approval by the Board of Governors to admit the student. HOWEVER, it is not

required that the school admit the student.

Florida Financial AidBright Futures Scholarship Program

�The Bright Futures application is completed during a student’s senior year

�Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application beginning October 1st of student’s senior year; prior to graduation

�A link to the application is available on BTHS website under “College Scholarships”

�World language is required: must complete two sequential years of the same language

�Bright Futures Scholarships pay out by the credit hour

�Bright Futures GPA weighting is 0.5 Weight for Honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment courses

�Scholarship can be used in Florida (approved) schools only

�Scholarship must be initiated within two years post high school graduation

�Military can utilize scholarship within two years post discharge (if applied and qualified prior to graduation)

Extracurricular Activities

� Students should be engaged in meaningful activities outside of school

� Volunteer and service hours must be documented on letterhead and submitted to guidance secretary, Ms. Kasting

� While service hours are not a graduation requirement, they are necessary for Bright Futures and also help on college applications
