In order to preserve spectacular Machu Picchu and the amazing original Inca Trail, the Peruvian government strictly limits the number of trekkers, porters and guides on the Inca Trail to 500 per day. Additionally, Wayna Picchu is limited to 400 people per day and in high season Machu Picchu only allows a maximum of 2,500 people per day. For this reason it is very important to book early and be sure to send your correct and complete passport information to us. Changes and transfers are not allowed and will result in the loss of the permit. We recommend booking your trip at least 3 months in advance when planning on traveling between October to April, and up to 6 months in advance in high season from May to September.

Day 1: We will begin our trip from Tena, Ecuador by departing for the Waysa Yaku de Alukus cabins. Upon arrival, we will get to know the area surrounding the cabins and have the opportunity to practice our shooting skills with a blowpipe before enjoying a dip in the Waysa Yaku natural lagoon. In the evening we will learn about the local community’s history, legends and tales.

Day 2: Start the day with an exciting traditional Waysa ceremony (to energize you and scare away the snakes and evil spirits), followed by a walk through the Parque Llanganates jungle and a visit to the Alukus Waterfall. After having lunch at the lodge, we will visit a natural butterfly sanctuary on the beach in the afternoon and learn a few traditional methods of panning for gold.

Day 3: Our day will begin with breakfast and a visit to a family garden to harvest cassava plants. Participate in a demonstration on how to make “la chicha”, a traditional drink of the Quechua population (a serious Quechua language lesson)! After a delicious local lunch, learn and perfect your newfound handicraft skills through a demonstration of local crafts with seeds from the region.

Day 4: The adventure continues! Discover how local villagers have learned to survive the vast and often dangerous jungle by means of constructing traditional traps that were once used to use to capture both animals and enemies. We will also learn how to use an indigenous flute-like weapon that shoots out darts called a “cerbatana.” Say “farewell” to the community and return to Tena.

Hostel pick-up and departure from Manaus port by speed boat to cross the Rio Negro to the village of Cacau Pirera. From here you will travel by car to the village of Paricatuba where you will hop in a motorized canoe to reach the jungle hostel around noon. Here we will get settled in and have lunch. Begin your adventure by taking a canoe trip with your local bilingual guide on a creek to go fishing for piranhas by day. At nighttime search for alligators and noctural animals on an moon-light expedition.

DAY 1

DAY 3

DAY 5

Take an early sunrise tour to hike through the jungle as dawn breaks and the jungle animals rise for the day. Visit the home of a native “Caboclo” family who proudly preserve and maintain their traditional way of life and are eager to share it with you. Learn about their local farming techni-ques from your guide as you explore a new lifestyle. Lunch at the lodge is followed by a camping expedition into the jungle where you will sleep at a local family home in the comfort of a hammock.

Head back to the jungle hostel in the morning and arrive in time to enjoy a delicious lunch with some free time afterward to swim in the tea-colored waters of the Rio Negro. Prepare your belongings for your return trip to Manaus, arriving around 5:00 pm.

DAY 2

Enjoy an early morning breakfast, followed by a 2.5-hour educational jungle walk where you will learn about medicinal plants and the trees of the Amazon rainforest from your knowledgeable local guide. Here we will find different plant life, bigger trees and a dense forest due to the higher altitude. After lunch at the lodge, we will take a paddle canoe trip through small channels called “Igarapes” or swamp lands called “Igapos” depending on the season.

DAY 4

Live as the native people have for thousands of years by learning to extract everything needed for survival from the rainforest without destroying it. Watch for native animals and listen to the chorus of tropical birds during the day. At night sleep to the sounds of howler monkeys and other jungle insects. Sleep at your local family home one more night to truly cherish this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sleep in the rustic home of a native “Caboclo” family for a night and explore the amazon jungle with a bilingual local guide to learn about unique medicinal plants, the delicate way of life and the sensitive balance between the local people and this wild environment.

ITINERARY 4 Days / 3 Nights

Visit the homes of local villagers in the amazon rainforest and traverse jungle rivers by motorized canoe watching for native flora and fauna. Sleep in a comfortable jungle lodge on this express visit to learn about the secrets and distinctive lifestyle of all creatures in the Brazilian Amazon.
