My family vacationed in Phoenix, Arizona. It was nice to see the sun. It was around ninety degrees every day. We sat by the pool and swam a lot. We had a great vacation. The PTA put on an 80’s Spring Dance and silent auction. It was a blast! I enjoyed dancing with all of the kids. There were some great costumes. I’ve had several students and one parent tell me I need dance lessons! I heard that last year too. I am starting to doubt my skills. I felt like I was gliding across the dance floor. Thanks to Temple Jackson and the PTA for organizing such a fun event. We are currently taking the MSP test. The Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) is the state’s exam for students in grades 3-8. The testing window for paper and pencil is from April 24 th to May 16 th . The fifth graders will be taking the on-line reading assessment starting on May 21 st and ending on May 31 st . Please avoid any vacations or doctor’s appointments if possible. If a student misses a test they can make it up within the testing window. Please make sure your child/children get a good night of sleep and eat a balanced breakfast. If you have questions about the MSP, please let me know. We are getting to the time of year when we start planning for next year. During the last month of school, teachers meet in grade level teams to build class lists for the next year. When we build lists we consider the match between each student and the teacher. Equally as important is the combination of students within a class. We take into consideration many other factors such as student achievement, learning styles, students with varying behavior and social skills, the number of boys and girls and input from parents. We appreciate the thoughtful information you submit regarding your child. Please return your input form to the office no later than Friday, May 24 th . You can find the input form below this letter or you can pick one up in our office. Please call or email if you have questions regarding this process. We appreciate all our volunteers. Thanks for supporting our students. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call me or email me at . Enjoy the month of May! Aaron Parman, Principal

It is one of ten top vote-getters, out of over 900 submissions, to receive a $2,500 grant. Winners are being notified directly via phone today and posted on our page. As an FYI, we’ve also notified them of our interest in highlighting their school or organization as a call to action to our Facebook fans about something they need; for example, volunteerism at an upcoming event, donating certain items, or contributing to a project that’s in the works. We look forward to receiving the information - with more than 21,000 fans, we hope it’s an opportunity to keep good things happening in our neighborhoods. Camas Schools have AED’s!

You may have read in the news about recent events involving Automated External Defibrillators or AED’s. All Camas schools have been equipped with AED’s and staff is being trained in CPR and AED use.

An AED is a lunch box size portable device that is used to treat cardiac arrest. The AED’s use the same technology that once was only available in hospitals and by paramedics in the field.

AEDs are designed to be simple to use with audio and text message instructions to trained rescuers to save the life of someone needing defibrillation. By having these AED’s in the schools, a person suffering cardiac arrest chances of survival can be increased by as much as 70%.

There have been 2 students saved at local schools in the last 2 years alone by deploying these devices. Camas School District was one of the first districts in the county to have AED’s in every school. What can you do?
