YARN: The Fibre Company Terra (40% baby alpaca, 40% merino wool, 20% silk; 196 yds/100 gm skein): blue spruce, 1 skein.GAUGE: 18.5 sts and 30 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in broken rib pattern, after blocking.NEEDLES: 1 - 16” (40 cm) US 7 (4.5 mm) circular, and 1 - 16” (40 cm) US 8 (5 mm) circular and set dpns, or size to obtain gauge.NOTIONS: Stitch marker (m), tapestry needle.SIZE: 18.25” (46.5 cm) brim circumference, 9.75” (24.75 cm) height.SKILLS: Knitting and purling in the round, decreasing.

WORTHY OF NOTE: This hat is reversible. If you would like to wear it both ways, when weaving in ends, be sure to do so carefully so they do not show on either side. When working the crown decreases, change to dpns when the stitches no longer fit comfortably on the circular needle.

DIRECTIONS:BRIM: Using smaller ndls, CO 84 sts. Join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts. PM indicating beg of rnd. Work in K1, p1 rib for 1.5” (3.75 cm). Change to larger ndls.

BODY: Work in Broken Rib Pattern until piece meas 8” (20.25 cm) from CO edge.
