    We had an opportunity to visit with these men inou r office an d to ask them to help ou r NorthAmerican partners understand more about theircountry, their ministries an d their lives.

    Both men live in Kovel, a city close to thebo rde r s of P o la n d o n t h e w e s t an d B ela ru s to

    th e north. In 1990, this country of 50 milliondeclared its independence from the SovietUnion. Economically, th e people are having a

    difficult time. Crime rates have increased significantly. Public education enables chi ldren totrain for jobs, bu t th e job opportunities are nott h e r e

    Thirty Years LaterDuring the last pastor s conference In

    Poland (June 2003), a ne w director for theOstr6da Camp was announced. His name is

    Zbignlew Chojnackl (Zblg-nlef Hoy-nah-tskee).This camp played a crucial role during the pastt hr ee d e ca de s of church life in Poland. It w as

    the first organized Christian youth center Inthiscommunist-controlled country. Many of today spastors and church leaders took their first stepstowards ministry at this camp. We thank God

    for this place and for the fact that he allowed usto take the initiativeand develop it as an import an t Christ ian life actlvi-

    ty center. We ar e pray-ing that God will contin-ue to bless this ministryand that many w find Hthe Lord here and grow k

    Two years ago we started another congregation in the city of Radom about 100 kilo

    metres from Warsaw. This is a city of over250 000 inhabitants but the congregationnumbers only 20-25 people. Radom has areputation of being a cemetery for churchplanters and missionaries. We continue topray for Titus our church planter and leaderof this new work trusting that the Lord willuse him effectively in this large city

    numbers around 100 adherents. Theyjust finished a three-year outreach prto six surrounding communities. As atwo regular church fellowships have

    continue youth camps but also be developing practical ministries programs. This willinclude helping people with both their physical and spiritual needs.

    The Fellowship of Christian Churches inPoland is gearing up for a new mission offensive since only 0.2 of over 40 million Polescan be considered Evangelical Christians. Weidentified the largest and most strategic citiesand are pooling our resources in order toreach these people with the Gospel message.In the near future we plan to send out mission teams to these urban centers and plantn e w churches .

    At the end of June during our next churchconference we will be challenged by two ofour youngest leaders who were educated inAmerican schools, Luke Bajenski (graduateof Hope International University and FullerTheological Seminary) and Adam Szumorek(graduate of Lincoln Christian Seminary). Our

    special relationship with a group of belin southern Poland. After a period ofand praying together the Lord hasgroup (approximately 200 of them) t

    ticipants. The week was most enjoyable in manyways. We did the usual things - Bible studies,crafts, sports, and canteen, of course. I was a 12year old boy. The director had already started th efire and it was burning, but beside it was a neatlylaid pile of logs.

He grew up in a Christianfamily in Belarus, accompanying his parents tochurch during the days when Belarus was partof the Soviet Union. He experienced someforms of persecution because the church theyattended was not registered.
