As the days of 1986 are rapidly progressing and the events of last year axe"beginning to fade, we would like to stop for a moment this aging .process and onemore time express to you our deepest thanks for all your prayers, financial helpand much encouragement received in the past It must have "been the shortest yearin our life - so rapidly it passed! So much did happen during this time in ourpersonal life and ministry.

Let me recall just a few memories from our life. We thank God that we arestill in good health. Benjamin is growing hoth physically and spiritually. HisQ,uestlons and conversations with us are more mature and show us that he understands the "basics of faith, and that he is making progress in his spiritualdevelopment .Yet he needs our prayers and more encouragement throu^ exemplaryChristian living. Xast year Benjamin surprised us also with his scholaryachievements "by winning the public speech competition in his school, in hisschool district, and then on the city level. He was also invited to give hisspeech on Toronto City Television, for the lion's Club and several differentassemblies. Who knows.. .maybe another preacher or missionary is growing!

But also about a year ago at this time we received one bad news fromPoland. Andrew Bajenski my nephew and the minister of the Christian Church inWarsaw ended up in the hospital with tuberculosis. This news hastened my plansof visiting Poland. I was glad to spend several weeks in May and June with theWarsaw congregation which is my home church, and with Andrew's family, and withother of our friends. We are glad to report to you to-day that both Andrew andthe church in Warsaw are doing fine. This month Andrew finished his last doseof antibiotics that were prescribed for his illness and now he is for a monthat a sanitorium for rehabilitation trying to regain his fvOl strength for newresponsibilities. In spite of this situation the Warsaw church had over 20additions through baptism and several transfers. The Church is growing and wethank the Lord for allowing us to be a part of this ministry.

During my last spring visit in Poland we were involved in the closingservices of the first year of work of the Correspondence Bible Seminary inWarsaw. Over 40 students successfully completed their first year of study andwere eagerly waiting for their summer work. We were also thankful to God forour successful negotiations and recovery of part of the property of theOstroda Youth Camp grounds that were lost about ten years ago. Now work isprogressing for adapting these enlarged facilities for "better use for God'sglory.

Recently we had the thrilling experience of receiving a letter from Peter,a ninteen year old young man from Warsaw with whom we became acquainted duringthe recent Polish economic crises. Peter is quadriplegic, but with God's helpand through God's people such as Joni Eareckson Tada we were able to help Peterboth physically and spiritually. His last letter written to us was his firstletter written all by himself with pen in mouth. Peter wrote, ''The joy in mylife comes when I can be at the Piilawska Street Christian Church.

Here at home in Toronto our radio work was continuing as always with lettersfrom listeners coming in# Several transpoirbs of food and. medical aid. were organized and sent to Poland. On top of all of this since September we were moving,with delays and frustrations, "but movingJ. As you possibly are aware of theBajenski household moved flcom an apartment located at the west end of Torontoto a small home on the east side of the city.

But that was not the only .move. After our Mission office lease expired inSeptember it was decided not to renew the lease so the Mission relocated thebusiness office in the home of George Repetski and the recording studio in ournew residence. It took quite an effort and time to set everything up in itsproper place but the work and our personal life had to continue "normally.Since Charles Branum terminated his work with the Mission most of the recordingand pro^am production became my responsibility. So for the last several monthsin addition to preparing and recording my Polish Gospel programs I am a^sopreparing the technical part of the Russian and Ukranian programs. All of thistakes much time but the results of this labour are very encouraging. Souls aresaved and the Church is getting stronger.

I hope you can understand some of these our joys and frustrations of thelast few months of our life and work, especially as Vera was in the ^ddle ofall of these our family and Mission activities, trying to help me and Benjamin,and yet keep the home open for all who are involved in this ministry. Pleaseremember us in prayer. We appreciate your encouragement.

Before closing this letter I would like to share with you::.'one ^more-^information that demands much prayer and preparation. This is concerning o^summer. The Lord willing we would like to spend two months of this si^er inPoland, working with the camp and visiting churches and individuals with whomwe are in correspondence. It is exactly twenty years.-agoithati.wec.ooiiducted^our .first Youth Camp in Poland. There are scheduled some special church acti^tles,conferences and youth programs. We are invited and we would like to be therethis summer in Poland as a family. Actually it will be the last time that _Benjamin will be able to travel with us on a half fare basis as he is still underthe age of twelve. We need to raise 2,500 dollars to make this trip and ourministry this summer in Poland possible. We ask you to help us with prayer andif possible with finances. Please designate your contribution on the trip toPoland. We will keep you up-dated on future developments in our life andministry.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND ASPIRATIONSWith the dawning of a new year, it is once

again our privilege to review with you some ofthe past year's achievements which the Lord hasenabled us to accomplish. Furthermore, we wouldlike to share some of the aspirations that areupon our hearts as we contemplate fresh opportunities for 1986. The Lord has been mostgracious to us through you who have prayed forour different ministries and have undergirdedthem by your financial gifts. Many times wethank God for your partnership with us whichmakes our work possible in reaching out to thedifferent Slavic nations with the Gospel message.

With regards to GMRM's ministry in theRussian language in 1985, we were enabled toprepare and send out three weekly radio programs. Bro. Huk has now, for several years,been the speaker for two programs, "EverlastingGospel" and "Scripture Speaks." The former isa program designed to call men and women tofaith and obedience to Christ; the latter is aprogram of scriptual exposition. George Repet-ski prepared the "On Wings of Thought" programwhich presents apologetic material in defenseof Biblical Christianity. Listeners testifiedto the fact that they are hearing and listeningto these programs. One letter, for example,stated clearly: "We (kicUi you tvoAy Tha'udai/."Besides this, Bro. Huk has laboured for severalyears on the translation of the Old Testamentsection of HALLEY'S BIBLE HANDBOOK. In 1985 hisefforts were crowned with success in that theRussian version of the book was printed by

World Christian Ministries of Toronto, Canada.Already reports have filtered back from Christians in the USSR that the book is being widelyread and used, especially by preachers and laychurch workers.

During 1986 we will continue our schedule ofRussian broadcasts from various stations aroundthe world. Russian is, in fact, a major language of the world. It is the binding languageof the Soviet Union and is widely studied inother East European countries. Many non-Russianlisteners actually listen to Russian broadcasts. Bro. Huk is also planning to makefurther progress on a book of hymns translatedby him from English into Russian. It is alsoour goal to have some staff member visit Christians in the USSR sometime during 1986 in orderthat we might learn of the latest developmentsin that country and of the people's needs.

During 1985 we were successful in launchinga Ukrainian Gospel broadcast called "Christ,the Saviour of the World." Bro. Paul Diatel hasbeen preparing sermons in the Ukrainian language. The prepared programs were sent out ona weekly basis to one of Far East BroadcastingCompany's newest stations on the Pacific islandof Saipan. We know that the signal reaches notonly Siberia but also the Western part of theSoviet Union. A letter recently came to ourpostal box in response to the Ukrainian broadcast. Diatel's kindassistance.

Throughout 1985 Poland continued to be anopen mission field. GMRM has conducted severalministries to that needy land. In the past,George Bajenski has been preparing two weeklyPolish broadcasts, "Voice of Truth" and "Voiceof Good News," which went out from stations inMonte Carlo and Portugal. Several hundred letters entered our mailbox as a result of that.What a joy it was to hear recently of onemiddle-aged man from Warsaw who confessedChrist as His Saviour and was baptized. He isnow a member of a local congregation of NewTestament believers. His first contact with theGospel came through one of our radio messages.Furthermore, last year Bro. Bajenski spent sometime in Poland and personally participated inactivities for Polish youth. He had the joyousprivilege to be present at the opening andclosing exercises of a new correspondence Bibleschool sponsored by Polish Christians. Some40 students completed the first year of studyand now are better equipped to serve the Lordin their local congregations. GMRM was enabledby you to financially contribute to this mostneeded project. We were also able to providehundreds of Bibles and other Christian books.

During the summer months the Ostruda Campbustled with activity as over 600 young peopleof all age groups gathered for Bible lessons,singing, games and Gospel services. Manycommitted their lives to Christ for the firsttime while others rededicated themselves to theLord as a result of the challenging messagesthey heard. The camp property itself was in

creased in size during 1985 as the localgovernment officials returned a portion of landto the Ostruda Camp committee. This has allowedthe committee to formulate plans for furtherdevelopment of the grounds to include winterized buildings to accommodate an eventual Bibleschool facility. Also, a huge youth rally tookplace in the centre of Warsaw during Septemberof 1985. This was a first as over 4,000 youngpeople from various churches gathered to hearGospel singing and expository preaching. Moreover, not only did we see the spiritual needsof the Polish people met but also, through theassistance of International Aid based in Michigan, we saw the physical and material needs ofPoles attended to. Several huge containers offood, medical supplies and clothing found theirway to Poland and were shared with churches,needy people, hospitals, orphanages and theOstruda Camp.

What aspirations do we have for Poland in1986? Several. It is quite obvious that aradio ministry for Poland is most effective.We will continue this throughout 1986 with thehope that even more stations could be found toaccept our programs. We would also ask you toremember the Ostruda Camp project in yourprayers. Some aspects of the development planwill be implemented in 1986. This will requirefunds and volunteer labour. Bro. Bajenski plansto visit Poland during the summer months andinvolve himself in the summer camp program forPolish youth and other church activities.

Another area of concern for us has been theBelorussian ministry. During 1985 we enteredthe tenth year of broadcasting of our Belorussian "Good News" program from Trans World Radioin Monte Carlo. In addition, this was the completion of our second year of broadcasting theprogram from radio station KGEI in RedwoodCity, California. Letters came in thanking usfor the "Good News" of Jesus Christ. The program holds a special appeal to the nationally-conscious Belorussians of Eastern Europe. Atthe moment, an acute need exists for the Scriptures in this language. During 1985 we ordereda shipment of the New Testaments for the Belorussians. Now we eagerly await their deliveryfrom the Bible societies. Please pray with usfor a successful delivery and distribution ofthese Scriptures.

While the translation of the Belorussian NewTestament is basically a good one, some changesmust be made to bring it up to present literarystandards. George Repetski plans to visit Poland sometime in 1986 and there make furthercontacts with Belorussian language specialistswho could assist in the production of a newtranslation. To add to that, more Christianliterature must be made available to thenationally-conscious Belorussians and Bro.Repetski is writing a book in this languagedealing with the basics of the Christian life.We hope to publish this in due course for dis-

tribution within the Belorussian community.Last year we ended an eight-year lease of

office and studio space in the west end ofToronto. We have temporarily relocated ouroffices and studio in staff members* homes andare now looking forward to finding suitablepermanent office and studio space.

CHURCH LIFE IN THE USSRHow do churches in the USSR conduct their

ministries? The Soviet Union is a vast land,thus conditions for churches and Christiansvary greatly. Recently a friend of ours fromWest Germany visited Eastern Poland where hemet two young Soviet citizens who were visitingrelatives in Eastern Poland. They were Christians from the city of Brest, which is locatedright on the border with Poland in the Belorussian Republic, Our friend passed on the following information as given by the young men:

In Brest there are three main congregations.One i the church which is aligned with theAll-Union Council of Evangelical Christians-Baptists of the USSR. This congregation hasover 400 members. Another one is an autonomously registered (independent) church to which thetwo young men belong. The latter congregationreceived official registration only a few yearsago. Following registration the authoritiesallowed this group to build their own buildingwhich was recently completed. It seats around1000 people.

The young Christians from this congregationreported that their church has over 700 members. Included in this number are two choirs,an adult 70-voice choir and a youth 50-voicechoir. Three orchestras take part in worshipservices: a wind orchestra, an orchestra offolk instruments and a vocal-instrumentalorchestra. The youth group numbers around 200.Every Saturday their youth gathers for a Biblestudy. The choir rehearses every Tuesday whichin actuality also becomes a service of preaching and prayer. Following the Sunday eveningservice, the youth remain for a time of fellowship which again, in essence, becomes a fullservice.

Several different groups meet in the church:a prayer and Christian literary group, also agroup calling itself "The Good Samaritan." Thelatter helps out people requiring material andpractical assistance. Young people from thisgroup travel to neighbouring villages and perform such deeds as digging up potatoes for asingle, middle-aged woman, repairing livingquarters and other things of this nature. During the last year by fall, this church baptizedaround 70 people.

Our friend queried the young Sovietbelievers further as to whether such opportunities for active Christian ministry exist onlyin Brest. They answered that in all churchesin the Moldavian, Ukrainian, Belorussian andBaltic Republics of the Soviet Union such opportunities are being realized. They did addthat they could not speak for churches in theSiberian part of the USSR" because they hadnever travelled there. But they assured ourfriend that their description of Christianservice for youth in the Western part of theSoviet Union is accurate.

JOHN HUK JOINSMISSIONARY RADIO MINISTRIES

It is our conviction that the radio ministrypresents the greatest opportunity to reach Slavic people in Russia with the Gospel of Christ.We have the potential to reach 275 millionsouls over short-wave radio in many parts ofthe Soviet Union covering both large cities andremote villages. Our radio programs and otherrelated ministries in the different Slavic languages are reaching out to another 100 millionin Eastern Europe. These are the opportunitiesof our time which require much prayer, financial means and qualified workers.

John Huk is the son of Brother John K. Huk,founder of this radio ministry. John was bornin Chicago, IL in the early thirties, was raised in a Christian home and made a commitment offaith at the age of 12 years. He was also active with his father while ministering in theRussian Ukrainian Church of Evangelical Christians in Toronto. After completing high schooland the School of Journalism and Graphic Artsin 1953, he pursued a career in the graphicarts spanning the last 32 years with severalfirms here in Toronto. He has a good workingknowledge of Russian and Ukrainian. John andhis wife, Ruth, have three children and fivegrandchildren. John's duties will includeoffice management, bookkeeping and productionof radio programs. His experience in thegraphic arts will also help us to better present the Gospel message through our newsletterin English and other Slavic languages. Throughyour continued prayers and financial support,we continue to serve Him with special emphasis,by faith to do what we are led to do for theSlavic people, otherwise unreachable except byshort-wave radio.

John Huk's ministry with GMRM is indispensable. Our workers depend totally on the regularsupport of interested friends and churches. REPORT ON ANDREW BAJENSKI

Andrew Bajenski, the pastor of the WarsawChristian Church sends through us his sincerethanks and Christian greetings to all hisfriends who remembered him, his family and thechurch where he serves during the time of hisprolonged illness last year. As of now,Andrew's health has improved. In January Andrewtook his last dosage of lung medication, andnow during the month of February he will be ina sanitorium in Southern Poland. In spite ofsome difficulties due to Andrew's illness, theWarsaw congregation still grew with over twentynew additions through baptism.
