Abstract

Belt conveyors have proven to be the most efficient and cost-effective method of moving bulk solids in mining operations,

regardless of the distance, the volume or the type of terrain. In many mining regions, ore grades are declining. New mines

are being developed in more remote areas, pits are getting deeper and underground mines are becoming lager. This means

that more and more material must be transported over longer distances. In the near future conventional drive configurations

will reach their limits

We easily can inspect a power demand per conveyor in the 20 MW range and above. Today, innovative and efficient AC

drives are the basis for advanced conveyor drive systems. But to achieve an advanced conveyor drive system it is not

sufficient to just pick an AC Drive System and connect it to the mechanical components – it is rather more than that. It is the

selection of the right AC Drive System based on the requirement of the conveyor application and the technology control

system which forces the AC Drive System to behave in a way to meet all the requirements of belt conveyors most. The

presentation will shows the advantage of innovatively designed conveyor control systems in combination with smart AC

drive systems, to takes care regarding energy savings, reliability, availability, and reduced wear and tear on the belt and the

mechanics.
