Your movies + our passion
The quest for the ultimate high definition
home cinema system – one that offers
everything today’s movie lover demands but
also reproduces music like a real hi-fi – is
finally over.
The scorching new 650R HDMI 7.1
receiver and 650BD Blu-ray universal player
employ the very latest video processing
technology to revolutionise your home cinema
experience and combine this with purist
audiophile design for blistering audio
performance. Delivering truly explosive
results, your favourite movies and music are
reproduced with all the passion and
excitement their creators intended.
With support for all the latest surround
sound formats and audiophile grade sonic
performance, the lightning-fast, easy to use
650BD is the best-ever introduction to Blu-ray
and also adds huge improvements to your
existing movies thanks to its ability to upscale
regular DVDs to 1080p quality.
Meanwhile the 650R AV receiver decodes
all the latest surround sound formats and its
immense video capability is coupled with an
extraordinary musical talent. Wonderful elastic
delivery makes it the ideal powerhouse for the
most demanding soundtracks and it’s equally
adept with music of all genres.
Movies and music explode into life!
The hugely powerful yet simple to use 650R
decodes all the latest surround sound formats
coupled with 7 x 100 Watt audiophile grade
discrete amplifier stages for a truly immense
surround sound experience.
Using a completely new Cirrus Logic/Crystal
chipset with the latest twin core 32-bit DSPs,
Cambridge Audio has enabled full support for
Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution and
the superb new Lossless Dolby True HD and
DTS-HD Master Audio formats. The 650R
delivers all the benefits of the latest HDMI 1.3c
format including higher data transfer speed plus
support for SACD and DVD-Audio. The 650R can
also transcode analogue video inputs to HDMI
for simplicity and flexibility, requiring just one
HDMI cable to your TV screen.
For really intuitive set-up, the 650R features
the new Cambridge Audio Mic Controlled Auto
Set-up (CAMCAS) system. Supplied with a
microphone, you’re guaranteed quick and easy
installation. And completing the perfect
picture, LipSync audio delay means adjusting
for video processing delays in the source or TV
is a breeze.
Let’s face it, you normally watch a movie
once, maybe twice but how many times have
you listened to the same album or those fifty
favourite tracks? You’ve heard these a thousand
times and you just know how every last beat, riff
and word should sound. So when your AVR is
tasked with delivering audio, it only makes
sense that it should be as adept at reproducing
music as it is video.
Sound quality – whether with music or
movies – is at the core of everything Cambridge
Audio stands for and the 650R sounds just as
good whether you’re watching the latest Blu-ray
release, a music DVD, a favourite CD or
browsing through your iPod.

Why upgrade to Blu-ray?
If you’ve seen a Blu-ray movie on an HD TV, no
doubt you were impressed by the sharp picture
quality and vividness of colour. That’s because
Blu-ray offers five times the amount of storage
and five times the amount of detail compared
to standard-definition (SD). Blu-ray also
supports high-definition audio formats and
lossless audio for appreciably better sound.
This extra space also means plenty of room for
additional content and special features like
BonusView enabling two different audio and
video streams simultaneously – often used for
the director’s commentary. Another great
feature, BD-Live, enables you to connect your
Blu-ray player to the internet and enjoy extra
downloadable content and bonus features
from BD-Live featured discs. And to make your
discs last even longer, all Blu-ray media
features a special hardened coating making
them more resistant than regular DVDs.
The 650BD upgrades your DVD collection too!
Whilst the wonder of Blu-ray is reason enough
to upgrade your existing player, where does that
leave your vast DVD collection? Fortunately
DVDs can be played in all Blu-ray players but to
make your existing movies look better than ever
before, the 650BD has a really neat trick up its
sleeve! Carefully developed de-interlacing and
upscaling technology is one of the 650BD’s key
strengths which bridges the significant void in
quality between ordinary DVD performance and
Blu-ray. Put simply, the 650BD upscales the
native (480 or 576 line) data from your
existing DVDs to much sharper, more vivid
1080p. This feature is particularly useful if
you’ve invested in a Full HD screen or plan on
adding one in the future.
And what’s more, the 650BD is equally at
home with a wide array of other formats
including CD, SACD, DVD-A, AVCHD and HDCD.
As well as universal disc playback, dual
USB ports enable you to experience high
definition video, photos and music from
external hard drives.
