AZC ATHLETICSHussein Anani (above) was one of 19 students who set new records at the 2011 AZC Athletics Carnival. Current records can be found elsewhere in this newsletter along with some photographs from the carnival.

Perhaps, the most successful athletes on the day were Rayanne Makki, Ali Hamdan and Fatima Bachir, who each set three new records each. However, the real heroes were all of those students who

competed in all possible events and always put in their best effort, no matter the outcome.

AZC BLAZERSStudents must wear college blazers to and from AZC in Terms 2 and 3.

READY TO LEARNIt is absolutely essential that

students arrive at school, ready to learn. This won’t happen if students do not have adequate sleep (10-12 hours, depending on age) or have unhealthy eating habits.

PaymentsParents are reminded that all payments should be made by direct deposit, Bpay or through the EFTPOS facility at AZC.

The reason for this procedure is twofold:

- AZC does not want to handle or hold cash on the premises; and

- AZC wants to minimise any bank charges for parents who are withdrawing cash from ATMs to make a fees payment.

AZC appreciates your cooperation in this matter.

AZC TEAM FOR ASISSA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL – 25 AUGUST, 2011

The following athletes have been selected to represent AZC at

the 2011 ASISSA Athletics Carnival that will be held at the E S

Marks Field on Thursday, 25 August.

COLLEGE UNIFORMParents are reminded that they must purchase available uniform items from AZC and missing/out-of-stock items from Yeronga School Uniforms (900 Canterbury Rd, Roselands).

There is concern that some families are substituting College uniform items by purchasing items from unapproved suppliers. Specific concerns are boys’ trousers, school shirts, AZC caps and tracksuit pants.

Parents can save themselves a lot of money by ensuring their child’s name is marked clearly on all pieces of clothing.

NUT FREE ZONE

Mohamed Soummaka, who is in Kindergarten in 2011, has a severe nut allergy. To prevent a medical emergency, there can be no nuts or foods containing nuts in the school.

This includes, especially Nutella and hazelnut prod-ucts, and anything containing tree nuts.

Al Zahra College and the Soummaka family appreciate your assistance in making our College a nut free zone.

Thank you in advance for your complete support.

AZC ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

AZC BOOK FAIR

Al Zahra College is holding a Book Fair for one week from Monday 1st August – Friday 5th August.

This is an excellent opportu-nity to find a selection of the books and related materials for children, parents, teach-ers and community mem-

bers. I hope everyone will attend, enjoy yourself, en-courage your child’s reading, and bring families together through reading all at the

same time.

RAMADAN

HOURS

AZC will operate normal

hours during Ramadan.

However, students arriving

late should arrive during the

recess break

(10.40-11.00am).

Parents wishing to collect

their child/ren early should collect them prior to the end

of the lunch break (2.00pm).

Maths Groups in Kinder

Make a bundle: We roll the dice to get sticks, when we have 10 sticks we ‘make a bundle’. A bundle is then one ‘ten’ instead of ten ‘ones’. We write how many ones and how many tens on our board and read our numbers.

Area: We have been cover-ing our tables with differ-ent things and counting how many altogether. We have discovered that round shapes are more difficult to use to cover an area than squares, rectangles and tri-angles

Area - pattern blocks: We have been making patterns with no spaces
