AZC SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS

Individual student order forms went home last week for the AZC school photos that will take place on 6 March.

MOBILE PHONESStudents who bring a mobile phone or other electronic device to College must leave it at the Main Office when they arrive. The item can be collected on their departure. If the device is required for use in the class-room, then the teacher will advise the Main Office.

READY TO LEARNIt is absolutely essential that

students arrive at school, ready to learn. This won’t happen if students do not have adequate sleep (10-12 hours, depending on age) or have unhealthy eating habits.

If parents don’t have these two factors right, then learning and personal achievement will be a ‘hit or miss’ affair.

How much sleep do your children have each night?

INTERSCHOOL SPORT

During Term 1, senior Primary students will be participating in the ASISSA West Interschool Sports Competitions. Girls will be playing netball while the boys will be involved in AFL. Both teams have made a great start to the competition.

Secondary girls will participate in their Term 1 interschool sport gala day at Greenacre on 29 February. Our girls have been busily honing their big bash skills in preparation for their cricket matches on Wednesday.

PaymentsParents are reminded that all payments should be made by direct deposit, Bpay or through the EFTPOS facility at AZC.

The reason for this procedure is twofold:

- AZC does not want to handle or hold cash on the premises; and

- AZC wants to minimise any bank charges for parents who are withdrawing cash from ATMs to make a fees payment.

AZC appreciates your cooperation in this matter.

KINDER NEWSIt has been a great start to the year in the Kindergarten classroom. Students are really enjoying making new friends and making in-quiries in our new unit: Healthy Choices!

We have been making inquiries in our own lunch boxes and think-ing about whether our snacks are healthy choices.

We have used art as a tool to demonstrate our thinking, such as our tissue-paper fruit basket.

During maths groups we are enjoying learning about number and using different items to show what we know.

Take a look at some of the ‘Star of the Week’ students, who have been presented with certificates at our K, Year 1 and Year 2 weekly assembly.

It really has been a terrific start to the year in our classroom!

Miss Culley, Miss Stanton and all of the students in Kindergarten!

COLLEGE UNIFORMParents are reminded that they must purchase available uniform items from AZC and missing/out-of-stock items from Yeronga School Uniforms (900 Canterbury Rd, Roselands).

There is concern that some families are substituting College uniform items by purchasing items from unapproved suppliers. Specific concerns are boys’ trousers, school shirts, AZC caps and tracksuit pants.

Parents can save themselves a lot of money by ensuring their child’s name is marked clearly on all pieces of clothing.

NUT FREE ZONE

Mohamed Soummaka, who is in Year 1 in 2012, has a severe nut allergy. To prevent a medical emergency, there can be no nuts or foods con-taining nuts in the school.

This includes, especially Nutella and hazelnut prod-ucts, and anything containing tree nuts.

Al Zahra College and the Soummaka family appreciate your assistance in making our College a nut free zone.

Thank you in advance for your complete support.

The International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young peo-ple who will help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understand-ing and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

IB programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right

The most significant and distinctive feature of the IB Primary Years Program is the six transdisciplinary themes.

PYP Authorization

On December 22nd 2011, AZC was officially authorized as an IB world school for the Primary Years Programme. IB authorization means that AZC has fulfilled the requirements for program implementation including curriculum and policy development. The requirements for authorization are the same in each IB region with the process designed to ensure that schools are well prepared to implement the programme successfully.

AZC is a Candidate MYP School and an Inter-ested Diploma Programme School. By 31 March 2012, AZC will submit an application for an authorisation visit in Semester 1 2013. If successful, AZC will then offer the Diploma Programme as the AZC school exit credential from 2014 with our first Y12 graduates in 2015.

AZC is proud to be an IB World School.
