    Inside the KPLand KWM .

KPL PropellerThe KPL version is equiwith an axial ow prope

The submersible KPL propeller pumps and KWM mixed ow pumpscombine quality elements inside a compact design.Despite their power, they require little space an d are easily installed allowing you to drastically reduce your construction costs.

KWM impellerThe KWM version is equwith a multi-channelledimpeller.

Water-tight cable entry Leaks are prevented by this single-piece, moulded cable entry pointwith triple compression sealing and anti-wicking block.

Sensors maximise protectionDepending on motor size, each pump incorporates sensors ormaximum protection at reasonable cost. Your choice includes sensorsto monitor winding temperature, seal condition, moisture, water-in-oil,and bearing t emperature.

Sha t and bearings or smooth, long-term operationEnjoy smooth, vibration- ree operation thanks to the oversized stainless-steel sha t and oversized ball-type thrust and radial bearings. The maintenance- ree anti riction bearings have built-in permanentgrease lubrication. Minimum 100,000 hours o bearing li e (L-10 Li e).

Mechanical seals prolong pump li eThe double mechanical sha t seal, mounted in an oil chamber withan additional lip seal, ensures long li e even in the most demandingconditions.

Rotation stopper or easy handlingSimple, compact rotation stopper prevents the pump rom tiltingand ensures ast installation and removal.

Trouble- ree junction boxWater-tight enclosed connection chamberwith IP 68 protection. Cable inlet with strain-relie , anti-kink device and double s eal.

Durable motorTrouble- ree, low-cost operation is ensured bythe air- lled squirrel-cage induction motor which includes thermal protection embeddedin each phase. From 4 to 18 poles designed

or class S1 duty. NEMA Design B, Class F in-sulation windings as standard.(Explosion-proo version also available: Class1,Div. 1, Groups C&D).

Oil chamber gives added sa etyOil- lled chamber lubricates and coolsmechanical seal units and provides anadditional leakage barrier.

KPL propellerThe KPL eatures a pump bowl equipped withdifuser vanes and an axial propeller. The wear-resistant impellers are precision-machined to ensure exact tolerances ormaximum hydraulic e ciency and dynami-cally balanced to avoid vibration. Adjustablepitch propeller also available.

Suitable where the liquid is pumped to a tunnel, channel or basinwith a water level that is nearly constant so that shut-o devicesare not required. This arrangement involves the smallest numbero steel components; it consists o a circular concrete tube and ashort pipe grouted in place as a base or the pump.Because the top o the tube is placed at a level slightly above themaximum water level in the outlet channel, water cannot runback to the sump when the pump is shut o .

I the pump is to work in combination with a siphon or a discharge line, a pressure-tight discharge elbow must be used. The elbow r ecommended here permitsboth ast installation and easy retrieval o the pumps.

I the water level on the outlet side o the pump varies consider-ably, ap valves can be installed. Normally the pump worksagainst the head in the discharge channel or basin; when thepump is not in operation, the water is prevented rom runningback to the sump by the automatic closure o the valve. In thisway, the pump always operates against the minimum head.

I odors require a closed system, this arrangement can be used witha ree discharge, as shown, in order to prevent rom water backfash.

In this case the pump is placed in a suspended steel column witha collar that rests on a supporting rame.

Choose the installation set-up that suits youWith the Grund os KPL and KWM, installation has the same scope or customisation as the pumps themselves.Installed directly in the column pipe, KPL and KWM pumps seriously reduce the need or construction works so theycan even save you money be ore they prove their e ciency in day-to-day operation.Choose between di erent installation types.Ask us or installation recommendations. We can o ten help you create a more e cient, more durable system.

GRUNDFOS KPL-KWM ranges in Drydocks World - Dubai

One of the biggest pump installations of marine application in the Middle East

    Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Drydocks World Dubai, is located on the Dubai Waterfrontand is one of the largest shipyards in the world. The shipyardemploys nearly 10,000 workers and over 1000 subcontrac-tors. More than 5000 vessels and oilrigs have been repairedand maintained at the facility, since it opened in 1983.

    The situation

As a part o their extensive yard development initiative, whichincluded creating new acilities or new shipbuilding and of-shore modules abrication, Drydocks World Dubai (Client)launched the SAFINA PROJECT, a Hydroli t ship launchingand recovery acility. The Hydroli t acility requires pumping o seawater to raise levels rom mean sea level to the impound-ing level o +9.5 m CD within our hours. The Client speci ed

our new pumps with a normal duty o 2.2 m3/sec at 10mhead with ree passage to allow 40 mm size particles.

Drydocks World Dubai speci ed that each pump be sup-plied with its own power and control cables or terminationat the top o each pumps venting tube. The client would theninstall a connection box and small console at the top o eachventing tube. Four umbilicals will then run rom the our con-nection boxes to the east abutment and into the control pan-el. The pumps were speci ed to be capable o being started(or re-started) and establish symphonic discharge conditions

or which the symphonic loop invert level is +10.00, rom anylevel between Highest Astronomical Tide (HAT) and LowestAstronomical Tide (LAT).

    The Grundfos solution

Grund os was chosen, a ter series o technical-commercialevaluations, due to low li e cycle cost, high level o compe-tence, extensive technical knowledge, short delivery timeand continuous support available in the U.A.E.

The exibility o the Grund os engineering team and productrange were also major advantages that contributed avour-ably in comparison to other interested parties.

Grund os was commissioned to supply 4 units o KWM M

Flow Impeller Pumps with 300kW motors. The pumps were stalled in chambers (1200 mm dia.) on the seaward ace onew East Abutment. Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Projects Manager, Gru

os Gul Distribution, quoted As per tender design the puwould have been subjected to cavitations, due to siphoning e

ect, as the discharge end o the pipe was located below the level. Based on Grund os suggestions (accepted by consultthe client modi ed the discharge pipe level. Another challenwas that the client had the so t starter installed in their aciland we had to carry out minor cable modi cations to suit it. Twas success ully executed by our Grund os service team atsite, be ore the pumps were installed.

We are satis ed with the per ormance o the Grund os pumpwell as the pre-sales and post-sales support rendered to us continuously by Grund os engineers. The pumps have been operating scess ully or almost 3 years now, said Mr. Murtaza Rampuri, ager-Yard Development Department, Drydocks World -Dubai. The client, with the help o Grund os service department, cout the scheduled periodic maintenance checks to ensure that thepumps are kept in good condition.

Finally, Drydocks World - Dubai also awarded Grund os the con

or supply o SCUTTLE DEWATERING PUMPS, which are Hydroli t Main Gate ballasting operations.
