EASY INSTALLATION Avantis MCM is easily installed and connects directly to the three supply phases of the motor using current (and sometimes voltage) transformers. The monitor may be mounted in any convenient panel. Typically located in or near the motor control center, Avantis MCM is especially valuable in situations where the plant is not easily accessible (a remote installation, or when the local environment is hazardous or inhospitable). INTRODUCTIONThe Avantis® Motor Condition Monitor (MCM) is a new approach to condition monitoring, providing all the benefits without the high complication and cost of traditional systems. Avantis MCM monitors the condition of equipment driven by an electric motor, effectively using the motor itself as a sophisticated transducer. It requires only connection into the motor’s electrical supply, avoiding the need for specialized sensors to be mounted on the equipment in the field.

Since Avantis MCM is permanently installed, it provides continuous fault monitoring and does not depend on expensive manual data collection. Avantis MCM uses advanced, NASA-developed technology to provide a self-learning capability in a compact, affordable, panel-mounted instrument. It automatically learns the normal operation environment of your equipment to accurately and proactively identify and diagnose faults before they become a threat. This greatly reduces the specialist diagnostic skills required of the user, making the benefits of condition monitoring available to many groups who have considered it too difficult in the past.

EASY INSTALLATIONAvantis MCM is easily installed and connects directly to the three supply phases of the motor using current (and sometimes voltage) transformers. The monitor may be mounted in any convenient panel. Typically located in or near the motor control center, Avantis MCM is especially valuable in situations where the plant is not easily accessible (a remote installation, or when the local environment is hazardous or inhospitable). This approach gives you all the advantages of online systems without the high cost of running cables to sensors mounted on the machine.

CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF YOUR MACHINERYAvantis MCM monitors your machinery continuously, constantly taking measurements and comparing them with what it learned during the self-training process to make sure everything is working normally. Always under your control, Avantis MCM only demands your attention when it detects a problem. This makes it very attractive in comparison with “walk around” systems, which require considerable effort and costs to diagnose if a problem is detected. Unlike conventional online systems, its unique self-training system allows it to recognize normal operation in a wide range of conditions, such as different speeds or loads – allowing tight control without false alarms. If Avantis MCM identifies a new operating state not experienced during the self-training phase, it gives you the option to include this state in all future monitoring events.

RELIABLE AUTOMATED FAULT INDICATIONAvantis MCM is very sensitive to machinery faults, even when they are starting to develop. It automatically assesses the severity of any variations from normal operation and presents the results of its sophisticated analysis to the user in a simple, compelling “traffic light” visual display. As a fault starts to progress, the traffic light changes from green to orange, indicating that maintenance action will be required in the near future. A red traffic light indicates that the high severity of the problem requires immediate attention.

INTEGRATES WITH PLANT-WIDE SYSTEMS Avantis MCM is specifically designed to be self-sufficient, requiring only intervention when it detects a problem. It can also act as an intelligent component of a complete, plant-wide monitoring and diagnosis system. You can connect Avantis MCM into your current systems using its standard interfaces, allowing results to be presented to your staff through existing display systems. Avantis can supply Wonderware® SCADA software to collect and manage information from all your Invensys MCM units, provide enhanced diagnostic capability, and allow remote operation of the complete system. This allows Invensys to help with your condition-monitoring program by providing remote advanced interpretation services.

AVANTIS MOTOR CONDITION MONITOR SUMMARYKey Benefits•Provides early failure detection to

increase asset availability, reduce costs and avoid unnecessary maintenance and downtime

•Supports continuous improvement through an integrated workflow management capability

•Provides operations, engineering, and maintenance with easy access to current asset information for better decision- making

•Collects and analyzes data on asset conditions to help optimize asset contribution over its full lifecycle

•With a lower cost point, Avantis MCM can be used to monitor more of the assets in an organization than competitive systems

Key Capabilities•Connects the control, safety and maintenance environments of a plant•The combination of monitoring mechanical and electrical health of the equipment in one system

allows for an in depth view on the close relationship between the two types of failures and provides the capability to differentiate between them

• Integrates to Avantis.PRO, the core of the Invensys Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution, as well as other EAM solutions such as IBM Maximo® and SAP/PM

•Assists in managing the complexity and risks in today’s manufacturing environments
