AUGUST - OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
With the help from the PUB, we
could afford a new uniform for
the students. The polo-shirts we
have for the students of this
academic year are very special
compared to other years. Yes, of
course, these shirts are better in
every way – the quality, the
design, the color, etc.! On the
front of the shirt was printed
with words that made up the
learning process and the school
logo. And, on the back, there is
an Indian quote which reads,
“All the flowers of tomorrow are
in the seeds of today.” The
words on the front and the quote
on the back are to remind the
students of their coming to
KTBLC. They are here to learn;
and to learn means to be able to
reflect, to solve, to create, to
grow and to think. The quote is
there as a motivation for students
to always do their best in what
they are doing because the quote
basically means what we enjoy
tomorrow is a result of how we
start today. Whatever the
students put in now - study,
work, kindness, etc. – they will
have positive results in the
future.

Our school is situated in Tung Tam, a Karen Thai village on the Thai-Myanmar border. The
village has a Buddhist monastery, two Christian churches and a public middle school. Whenever
the monastery or the churches or the school needs help, our students will go and help them.
Aside from their studies and works in KTBLC, our students usually participate in the community
services whenever it is necessary.
Two months ago, all the schools, companies and organizations in Thailand were planting yellow
flowers or creating some kind of floral arrangements to pay tribute to His Majesty the late King
Bhumibol Adulyadej ahead of his Royal Cremation ceremonies. In August, our student went and
helped Tung Tam School with cleaning, weeding and mowing. We planted marigold flowers to
pay tribute to the late king of Thailand.

Our teachers and students
work diligently on our
farm growing vegetables.
Several kinds of vegetables
such as long beans,
mustard greens, gourds,
okras, pumpkins, chilies,
and rosella plants are
grown on the farm. We
work hard and it pays off
well. Currently, our farm
produces plenty of
vegetables more than
enough. In fact, we even
share our long beans and
ridged gourds to our
neighbors. We can save
money from buying fewer
vegetables from the
markets. We have spent
more of our budget on
yellow beans (lentils),
dried fish, fish cans, oil,
chicken, meat and other
vegetables that we cannot
grow on our farm.

In September, we repaired
our broken bamboo-fence.
Bamboos were obtained
from the forest nearby the
school. The boys cut down
the bamboos and all the
students helped bringing
them back to the campus.
When the bamboos arrived
in the campus, they were
split into six or seven inches
long. Then the split bamboos
were woven. Finally, we got
a beautiful bamboo-fence.

Our students work very hard in their studies. They study and do their homework every evening
during the night study. In September, tests were given to assess the students’ performance. In
English class, students are usually assessed by their presentation on what they have learned. In
Computer class, the students have learned about Microsoft and Power Points and now they are
moving on to Excel. They also work very hard on their Community Health class which will
prepare them to work as nurses when they finish their studies in KTBLC.
