Parish Appeal Update

As of July 26 a total of $613,827.90 in donations has been received and another $52,105.07 has been pledged to be paid during the remainder of the campaign’s 2-year dona-

tion period – for a total of $665,932.97— 89% of our $750,000 goal.

If you have yet to make a pledge or a donation to the Annual Parish Appeal, please take the opportunity to do so at your earliest convenience. Thank you to those

Parishioners who have so generously responded to help us reach our goal!

SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES

Have you heard of Small Christian Communities? Once a week fellow parishioners meet to look at the up-coming weekend scripture readings and try to relate them to their everyday lives. Using prepared materials, we read, talk, listen, pray, and sometimes laugh, but always learn something new. We would like to form new groups this fall. To find out if this could be some-thing you might find interesting, come join a SCC meet-ing over the summer and just check it out! We will be meeting at 7 p.m. in the Assumption Church library (off the church hall) on the following Thursdays: August 8 and 22 . (Please use the back door.) Come to one or all of these meetings and, if it speaks to you, join a newly forming group in the fall. If you have questions or want more info, call Joan O’Loughlin, 860-643-4031.

If you are being called to serve as a priest or reli-gious visit www.hartfordpriest.com or speak with Fr.

Cavanaugh or Fr. Janusz.

The Connecticut councils of the Legion of Mary are sponsoring a pilgrimage to Lourdes in Litchfield, located in the beautiful hills of Litchfield CT, on September 7, 2019. A bus will leave the Church of the Assumption at

7:30 am and return around 5:30 pm. The cost for the bus is $20.00 per person. The day will include Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation (if a priest is available) and a Marian talk in the afternoon followed by the Stations of the Cross concluding with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. If interested in going or for information, please contact Nancy Ecabert at 860-646-4325 by August 15.

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

How preoccupied and anxious are you over preserving and maintaining a particular standard of wealth? It is easy to develop an unhealthy relationship with our pos-sessions and invest ourselves more in their protection and growth than in our relationship with God. Greed can overtake us, often without our immediate notice. Anxiety of heart can find us living more with sorrow and grief than with freedom and joy. We can never al-low things to replace God, and we always have to keep our possessions and wealth in proper perspective. Once they begin to control us, we have a problem. Anxiety and worry can become our greatest sins. There is a joy-ful life to be discovered when we discover true faith! -lpi

Thursday, August 8 7 PM—Small Christian Community will meet in the Assumption Church library.

7 PM—K of C Council 1155, Assumption Church hall. Membership questions, please contact Grand Knight Joe Congdon, 860-372-1738.
