E-Kit August 26, 2020 Beginnings & Endings This Sunday via Zoom, I had the opportunity to be in two places at once! I first joined our church in Hartland, as Rev. Amy Davin gave her candidating sermon. Amy is a young hospice chaplain who comes to us from Massachusetts. She preached from Romans 12, and shared with us her love of baking, and the importance of each of the ingredients in a recipe. In the same way she said, she looked forward to finding out the different gifts and talents of each of the people in the Hartland church, because they are all important! The church voted unanimously to call her, and we all look forward to welcoming her to our Vermont Conference! I then joined our church in Guilford, for the celebration of Rev. Lise Sparrow’s 20 years of ministry among them. Lize used the Beatitudes as her sermon Scripture, and talked about how she spent time in Hawaii growing up, and how the word “Aloha” is used there for hello, goodbye, and for love! She had members of her family speak of how much the church has meant to them, and many different people from the church spoke of how much Lise’s ministry mean to them. And the music! Some beautiful pieces were song both by the church choir and by a group of young people, and one of those pieces was especially written by Guilford’s music director in Lise’s honor. Thankfully, Lise will still be among us in the Vermont Conference, and we give thanks with her for her many wonderful and meaningful years as pastor in Guilford and friend and colleague to so many of us in the Vermont Conference!
