Location: Under the red canopies between Pralle-Sodaro & Henley and on the walkway north of Argyros Forum
Parents Ambassador Council members welcome you with refreshments and resource materials to help you and your student get settled into the Chapman community.
4 – 5 p.m .Parent Reception for New Disciples of Christ/United Church of Christ Students
Location: Wilkinson Founders Chapel, Fish Interfaith Center
Parents/families of students who come from congregations related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the United Church of Christ are strongly encouraged to come to the one-hour information session about the Disciples on Campus program. You will receive helpful information on scholarships and opportunities for your student. Please come without your student to this event.
4 – 5 p.m .Commuter Student and Family Meet and Greet
Location: Beckman Hall, Fourth Floor Patio

4 – 5:30 p.m .For Parents of First-Generation College Students: Helping Your Student Succeed
Location: Argyros Forum, Room 208
Is your student first in their family to pursue a bachelor’s degree? If so – come join us to learn how you can support your student academically and personally. In addition to learning about the resources Chapman has to offer, some current first-generation college students will be on hand to share their own experiences. During this session we will discuss the mission and goals of the Promising Futures Program, our optional support program for first-generation college students at Chapman. Being the parent of a student who is the first in their family to go to college is a very proud accomplishment. We look forward to providing you with resources and advice to better support your student!
5 – 7 p.m .WCAHSS Department of Art Freshman and Family Reception
Location: Moulton Hall and Guggenheim Gallery
Welcome to the Department of Art! We are hosting a welcome reception (includes kiln-fired pizzas) and facilities tour for all incoming Graphic Design, Art & Art History students and families. Students will meet our full-time faculty members, art student club representatives, and staff. Important information will be provided to help set them up for a successful academic year. It will also be a time for families to have an in-depth view of where art students will spend much of their time. We look forward to meeting you.

7 – 8 p.m .Opening Convocation
Location: Wilson Field
Students, please enter the field through the north gate for the line up starting at 6:30 p.m .
Families, proceed to the bleachers of Wilson Field through any gates.
Students will process to their seats beginning at 6:50 p.m .
This traditional event is the formal opening to Chapman’s academic year. Faculty in full regalia march in procession and President Doti officially launches the semester. Dr. Jennifer Funk, associate professor of biological sciences and director of biological sciences program, will give the annual Aims of Education inspirational address. After Convocation, Orientation will officially begin .
At the conclusion of this Program, families please remain seated as students exit through the north gate and proceed to the residence halls for a mandatory residence life meeting if they will be living on campus or to Beckman Hall for the Commuter Student Social . Once students have exited, families are welcome to attend the Wine and Cheese Reception hosted by Dr. Jerry Price, vice chancellor and dean of students, in Argyros Forum. This Event will also be streamed in Agryros Forum , Room 202.
8 – 9:30 p.m .Wine and Cheese Welcome Reception for Parents and Families
Location: Argyros Forum, Student Union

Join Dr. Jerry Price, vice chancellor and dean of students, Mike Pelly, vice chancellor, dean for enrollment management, and Dr. DeAnn Yocum Gaffney, associate vice chancellor and associate dean of students for this interactive session that will introduce you to the Class of 2019/20 and the student and campus services that address and promote student safety, health and well-being. Additionally, The Honorable, Teresa “Tita” Smith, mayor of Orange who will share helpful information about the community of Orange.
11:30 a .m . – 4: 30 p.m .Parents Ambassador Council Welcome Booth
Location: Under the red canopy on north side of Memorial Hall
Visit with Parents Ambassador Council (PAC) members to learn more about resources for Chapman parents, tips on supporting your student for their greatest success, and how to become involved with the University and the PAC. Parents can write a letter to their student to be delivered a few weeks after classes begin .
11:45 a .m . – 1 p.m .All-American BBQ
Locations: Bert Williams Mall /Piazza / Gray Victory Way and various other locations

1:15 – 2:15 p.m .Academic Life at Chapman
Location: Memorial Hall
During this session, you will learn about the key student services that will help promote your student’s academic success at Chapman. After a short video, representatives from the Office of the Chancellor; Academic Advising Center; Tutoring, Learning, and Testing Center; Leatherby Libraries; Center for Global Education; Career Development Center; and the Center for Undergraduate Research will share information and answer questions about their available resources.
2:30 – 3:30 p.m .Parent/Student Panel
Location: Memorial Hall
Join current Chapman students and parents to discuss how families can support their new Panther. Learn about the important role that families play in the college experience, discuss what it means to be involved in the Chapman community, and, most importantly, get all of your questions answered.
3:45 – 5:15 p.m .Student Services Fair
Locations: Walkway north of Argyros Forum, as well as the walkway in between Argyros Forum and the Leatherby Libraries
Have no fear — The Student Services Fair is here! Come mingle with other new students and families as you explore booths representing over 20 on-campus departments. There will also be cool mocktails, Chapman safety whistles, and helpful safety tips provided by C.A .R .E.S. (Creating a Rape-Free Environment for Students).
4 – 5 p.m .Business Office Workshop
Location: Beckman Hall, Room 104
Representatives from the Business Office will answer your questions regarding billing, loans, and scholarships. Both families and students are welcome to attend.

4:15 – 4:45 p.m . and 4:50 – 5:20 p.m .College Finances by Wells Fargo
Location: Beckman Hall, Room 213
Representatives from Wells Fargo will present a short session on managing college finances.
4:30 – 5:15 p.m .Greek Life Info Session
Location: Beckman Hall, Room 404
Come and learn about the Chapman Greek community. Hear from current Greek students, staff and alumni about the fraternity and sorority chapters, Greek programs and events, and the benefits of this involvement opportunity. Please bring any questions you may have.
4:30 – 6:30 p.m .College of Performing Arts New Student and Parent Reception
Location: Lindquist Esplanade (next to Waltmar Theatre)
Dean Giulio Ongaro invites new students and their parents to a reception with the faculty and administration of the College of Performing Arts. There will be music, great food, and drinks. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the faculty and Dean of the College of Performing Arts. For questions, please contact the College of Performing Arts Office at (714) 997-6519.
5:30 - 7:30 p.m .College/School Welcome Dinners
REMINDER: YOU MUST WEAR A WRISTBAND TO ENTER ANY MEAL DURING ORIENTATION
Please use the map found on pages 12-13 in order to determine your section location .
Please attend dinner at the location of your student’s declared major.
This dinner is an opportunity to meet new students in your School/College as well as some

of the faculty and administration with whom you will be interacting while at Chapman.
7:30 – 8 p.m .PILLARS OF YOUR EDUCATION, CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONY
Location: Attallah Piazza
Incoming Chapman students, parents and families are invited to gather around the fountain and four pillars in the Attallah Piazza to celebrate the pillars of Chapman University symbolizing our intellectual, spiritual, social and physical life. This brief ceremony will end with candle lighting as we bid goodbye to families and welcome you to the Chapman family!
This event officially concludes Family Orientation . If available, please attend the Parent and Family Farewell Reception hosted by Dean Gail Stearns.
8 – 9 p.m . Parent and Family Farewell Reception Location: The Fish Interfaith Center
Join Dean Gail Stearns and other new Chapman families for a Farewell reception following the Candle Lighting Ceremony.
