Loretto of Jubilee: A call to Holiness

Mass was celebrated on Friday at the Basilica of the Holy House in Loreto, Italy for the solemn proclamation of the Loreto Jubilee. The

Holy Year began on December 8 and will end on December 10, 2020. The feast of Our Lady of Loreto will also be inscribed in the Ro-

man Calendar on 10 December.

For a century pilots and travelers have prayed to the Virgin Mary to keep them safe while in the air. Marking this milestone anniversary

of the declaration of Our Lady of Loreto as the patron saint of aviation and aviators, Pope Francis earlier this year conceded a Loreto

Jubilee for all air travelers, and for pilgrims who come to the Shrine of the Holy House.

Speaking to Vatican News, Archbishop Fabio Dal Cin the papal delegate to the shrine, said it was a “great opportunity to strengthen the

bonds of devotion to the Mother of Heaven." The Archbishop added that, "it's good news because it's not just about members of the Air

Force but about all air travelers." Delving back into history, the Papal Delegate noted that, "The veterans of the First World War asked

the Pope at the time to obtain special protection from Mary. The first planes, at the time, were called 'flying churches…” "Entrusting to

Our Lady of Loreto all those who boarded an aircraft was, therefore, completely natural", he said. “We are called to fly high”, the

Archbishop underlined, “we are called to holiness, to the fullness of life and happiness that is the holiness offered by the Lord.”

The Shrine is honored by Christians as the house in Nazareth in which the Holy Family lived, and which was transported to Loreto,

Italy in December 1294. In addition to the Jubilee, Pope Francis has decreed “that the optional memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary of

Loreto should be inscribed in the Roman Calendar on 10 December, the day on which the feast falls in Loreto, and celebrated every

year." According to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, “This celebration will help all people,

especially families, youth and religious to imitate the virtues of that perfect disciple of the Gospel, the Virgin Mother, who, in conceiv-

ing the Head of the Church also accepted us as her own.”

Following Saturday’s Vigil for the Solemnity of the Assumption, Archbishop Dal Cin recalled the many times during the year, in which

the Pope expressed his closeness to the Shrine: in his visit on March 25, 2019 where he signed the Apostolic Exhortation to the Young

Christus Vivit; in the concession and extension of the Loreto Jubilee; in the inscription on December 10 in the Roman calendar the op-

tional memorial of the Blessed Virgin of Loreto, and finally with the inclusion in the Loreto Litanies of three new invocations Mater

Misericordiae, Mater Spei and Solacium migrantium.

Archbishop Fabio Dal Cin, Pontifical Delegate to the Shrine at Loreto announced the Pope’s decision to extend the Loreto Jubilee until

10 December 2021. The Jubilee was granted on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the proclamation by Pope Benedict XV of

Our Lady of Loreto, Patroness of all airmen.

Imparting the news from the Shrine of the Holy House, the Archbishop said, "In this difficult time for mankind, Holy Mother Church

gives us another twelve months to start anew with Christ, letting us be accompanied by Mary, a sign of consolation and sure hope for

all". The Jubilee was officially inaugurated on 8 December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, with the opening of the Holy

Door presided over by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, but "unfortunately not celebrated in all its entirety because of the

Covid-19 epidemic".

La Delegación Pontificia del Santuario de la Santa Casa Loreto dio a conocer que, desde viernes 1 de noviembre, Solemnidad de

Todos los Santos, en la ciudadela mariana de Loreto, Italia, se celebrarón la indicción del Jubileo Laureano “María Regina et Janua

Coeli”, el mismo que se inauguró el 8 de diciembre de 2019 y finalizará el 10 de diciembre de 2020.

El Papa Francisco decretó la inscripción de la celebración de la bienaventurada Virgen María de Loreto en el Calendario Romano

General. “Se celebrará el 10 de diciembre, día de su fiesta en Loreto, la memoria libre de la bienaventurada Virgen María de Lore-

to”, se lee en el Decreto de la Congregación para el Culto Divino y la Disciplina de los Sacramentos sobre la celebración de la bie-

naventurada Virgen María de Loreto para inscribir en el Calendario Romano General.

Un Jubileo Loreto para todos los que viajan en avión El Santuario de la Santa Casa, donde se venera la imagen de la Virgen de Lo-

reto, Patrona de los pilotos y viajeros en avión, será el epicentro de este Jubileo Loreto por el centenario de la declaración de la Vir-

gen María de Loreto como protectora de los viajeros aéreos. “El Santo Padre ha otorgado el Jubileo Loreto a todos los viajeros aé-

reos, militares y civiles, y para todos aquellos que llegarán peregrinos de todo el mundo al Santuario de la Santa Casa”, informaba

Monseñor Fabio Dal Cin, Delegado Papal al Santuario de Loreto en el mes de junio, fecha en que se anunció este Jubileo. El Prela-

do también anunciaba que el Jubileo se “inaugurará el próximo 8 de diciembre, Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción”. La

indulgencia plenaria para pedir el don de la conversión: “La indulgencia plenaria del Año Jubilar se referirá a los fieles que pasan

por la Puerta Santa del Santuario para pedir el don de la conversión a Dios y revivir la devoción filial hacia Aquel que nos protege

en los viajes aéreos”, explicó Monseñor Dal Cin. El icono de la 'Santa Casa en vuelo' con María, agregó el Prelado, nos ayudará a

vivir espiritualmente la gracia del Jubileo para construir juntos la gran casa del mundo para la gloria de Dios y la armonía de todos

los hombres. La noticia de la concesión pontificia fue anunciada, entre los aplausos de los fieles, al final del rezo del Santo Rosario

de la Vigilia de la Asunción, por Monseñor Fabio Dal Cin, Arzobispo Delegado Pontificio de Loreto. En sus palabras, el agradeci-

miento al Papa por un regalo que permite disfrutar por otros doce meses de los beneficios del jubileo espiritual en esta época de

anunció ayer la decisión pontificia de prorrogar hasta el 10 de diciembre de 2021 el Jubileo Loreto concedido con ocasión del cente-

para la humanidad -dice Monseñor Dal Cin- la Santa Madre Iglesia nos da otros doce meses para recomenzar desde Cristo, dejándo-

nos acompañar por María, un signo de consuelo y esperanza segura para todos". Jubileo Loreto. Parolin: María, la estrella que nos

guía a su Hijo Jesús El Jubileo, iniciado oficialmente con la apertura de la Puerta Santa el 8 de diciembre de 2019, en presencia del

Cardenal Secretario de Estado Pietro Parolin, pero "desgraciadamente no celebrado en toda su extensión a causa de la epidemia de

Covid-19" - como leemos en el Decreto de la Penitenciaría Apostólica - renueva así por otros doce meses la experiencia de gracia y

de perdón para todos los fieles que visitarán el Santuario Pontificio. Una gracia que también se extiende a las muchas capillas de los

aeropuertos civiles y las bases de la fuerza aérea del mundo.

Tres nuevas invocaciones a las Letanías Loreto, una para los migrantes

Al dar la noticia de la prórroga al final del rezo del Santo Rosario de la Vigilia de la Asunción desde el Santuario de la Santa Casa

de Loreto, Monseñor Dal Cin recordó las numerosas veces durante el año, en las que el Papa expresó su cercanía al Santuario: en su

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

The only way to know God is to love God. Our minds will never

fully grasp the mystery of God, but our hearts and souls can learn to

love the mystery. Years ago, when life had a more innocent quality

to it, we believed what we were told or witnessed, unless there was

direct evidence otherwise. This was especially true if the information

came from someone in authority. In a sense, we were a bit more gul-

lible on one hand but also more trusting on the other. The latter is an

admirable quality that sadly can be eroded when we realize we have

been duped. With education and technological advances, we find

ourselves more skeptical and less likely to too quickly accept and

believe what we see and hear.

For all of the good that social media can do, it can also easily distort

reality and truth. Photoshop and a myriad other technological truths

can add to, fabricate, and make even the non-existent seem real. It is

amazing. How far do we allow this obviously justifiable skepticism

to take us? Questioning and doubting are healthy elements of any

good relationship as long as we don’t allow them to turn us away

from a deeper experience of love and encounter. If we cannot get our

minds around something or empirically justify or prove it, we tend to

declare it a hoax, untrue, or unauthentic and walk away. The very

same trust that can quickly be eroded is exactly what is essential for

all of our relationships, especially our relationship with God. With

all things and people that make a profound claim on us, we have to

trust in the absence of knowledge. Full self-investment involves

plunging completely into the unknown!

Simon Peter said to Jesus, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living

God.” Peter came to this knowledge, which is not “head knowledge”

because of the relationship he shared with Jesus and what God was

able to reveal in and through that relationship. Peter simply “knew”

because of love that this is who Jesus really is. The silent exchange

of love between friends, and not an intellectual exercise of the mind,

brought Peter to this place. When we stop and think about it, there

are many things in life that we simply know but do not completely

understand. When someone sacrifices their own well-being for an-

other, it may not make intellectual sense when examined. But it

makes a world of sense when it is carried out. The vastness of reality

and an encounter with incomprehensible mystery all lead us to pro-

found silence where we simply know something to be true. Have you

trusted enough to allow your relationship with God to bring you to

this place or are you still too skeptical?

21º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

“Jesús les preguntó: Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo”.

Pedro contestó: “Tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo del Dios vivo”.

(Mateo 16:15-16). Jesús lanza una pregunta fuera de serie

que pone a sus discípulos a pensar en realidad quién es Él.

Gracias a esa pregunta, Pedro confirma su fe y se afianza

como roca firme de la Iglesia. Desde entonces hasta ahora,

el sucesor de Pedro, el Papa en Roma, es piedra, roca fir-

me, que impulsa a la Iglesia a la fidelidad.

Ahora, Cristo podría hacernos la misma pregunta a ti y a

mí. ¿Quién es Jesús para ti? Sí, para ti, padre de familia,

estudiante de universidad, madre y padre soltero. Por men-

cionar a algunas personas. Yo creo que las respuestas va-

riarían mucho. Sin embargo, hay que tener cuidado de no

hacernos una imagen falsa de Jesús. Pedro, acertó diciendo

que Él era el “Mesías, el Hijo del Dios vivo”. Y fue llama-

do dichoso, feliz por haber sido una revelación de Dios

Padre. Algo había aprendido Pedro de las enseñanzas de

Jesús en su tiempo de formación al discipulado. Poner

atención a la enseñanza es crucial, y el Catecismo de la

Iglesia Católica, en el número 100, dice: “El oficio de in-

terpretar auténticamente la Palabra de Dios ha sido enco-

mendado únicamente al Magisterio vivo de la Iglesia, al

Papa y a los obispos en comunión con él”. “Y ahora yo te

digo: Tú eres Pedro (o sea piedra), y sobre esta piedra edi-

ficaré mi Iglesia”. (Mateo 16:18). ¿En tu vida, realmente

Jesús es el Mesías?
