Executive Director—Joseph Buranosky

Joe Buranosky joined Catholic Charities of Central Florida in April 2012. He is

dedicated to engaging Catholics in Central Florida in the important mission and

ministry of Catholic Charities, which serves people in need, providing hope and

building opportunity.

“My principal hope is that we can, as a Catholic community, engage everyone in the

idea that Catholic Charities is a ministry that belongs to all of us and that now more

than ever, we have so many people out there that are hurting; that are in need. We

need to try and help. That is what Jesus tells us to do.”

As the previous Director of Operations at the Basilica of the National Shrine of

Mary, Queen of the Universe, Buranosky worked with the Rector and staff to

begin a ministry to help the poor and homeless and support local social justice

initiatives.

Buranosky shares a passion for this type of ministry work and he describes it as integral to our faith as

Catholics.

“When you take a look at the Gospel, particularly Matthew 25, that’s a great call to every Catholic that we all have to

be engaged. We all have to be involved and concerned about our brother and sister."

Buranosky is 30 year military veteran, an avid gardener, and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in

Apopka; serving on the Parish Finance Committee, as well as serving as a Eucharistic Minister and lector.

The Pittsburgh native has been married for 30 years and met his wife, a navy nurse at the time, while they

were both stationed overseas in Iwakuni, Japan at the Marine Corps Air Station. They have two adult

children and have lived all over the United States including Washington DC, California, and Hawaii.

After his retirement from the Marine Corps in 2002, Buranosky returned to Florida and went on to work at

Lockheed Martin, the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program at Edgewater High School, and the Basilica for

three years.
