A Note From the Club...

T his summer has already been a lot of fun with graduation parties, weddings, and pool parties every

week! We had our first wedding ceremony of the year on the 1st tee box of the canyon nine and reception in the loft which turned out beautifully! it is so exciting to now have the ability to accommodate large enough groups for weddings and big dinner parties. We have been so busy with private parties and fundraisers, and it has brought a lot of new people out to see the club and all of the great things that we do in the Somersett community. once the summer starts winding down, it will be time to start planning those holiday events. i am looking forward to a lot of fun holiday parties at the loft! until then, i would love to give you a tour of the loft or help you set up a pool party to enjoy the last couple months of summer time!

A Fond Farewell

It is with joy and sadness that we announce brinn Willmer’s departure from the club. She joined the staff in May 2005 and has served numerous roles over the past five years, recently as our

assistant activities coordinator. brinn’s positive attitude and bright smile have touched the hearts of many here in Somersett, especially the children who got to know her in Kids’ corner in recent years. brinn is heading off into the “real world” as an elementary school teacher, after completing her student teaching this past spring. We will all miss

her but wish her the best of luck in the future. Please stop by the club this month to wish brinn success in her next adventure.

foxtails

foxtails are a type of sticker prevalent in the spring and summer season. Foxtails range from 1/2” to 3” in length, are very sharp at

one end and branch out into a wispy tail at the other. they have the ability to burrow under the skin and migrate to different areas of the body. Foxtails commonly invade the pet’s ears causing discomfort and shaking or tilting of the head. Foxtails can penetrate the skin of the feet causing painful abscesses. When a foxtail enters the nose, severe sneezing can occur, often accompanied by a bloody discharge. basic precautions include checking your pet’s feet, ears and hair after outdoor activities. When foxtails are suspected, your pet’s veterinarian may need to use anesthetics and special surgical instruments to remove them. this summer, be sure to watch for any swelling, drainage, limping, violent sneezing or head shaking which may be an indication of foxtail intrusions.

A re you enjoying life at Sierra canyon? Has Association staff been taking good care of you and your concerns? Are additional amenities

within Sierra canyon something the community wants to consider? these are just a few of the important questions that were brought up in the recent Sierra canyon community Survey, and we’d like to extend a big thank you to those 200 plus Sierra canyon residents who took the time to participate in this important assessment! i will share the results at our August 18th board of directors meeting at the Aspen lodge. WeeDS(ref. cc&r’s Article iV, Section 23, 29, & 30)Weeds and other dead, diseased or infected vegetation are not permitted. lawns and landscaping must be well maintained. Homeowners are responsible for removing vegetation growing in common areas infringing upon a homeowner’s lot within their lot boundaries. All undeveloped lots are required to be kept clear of trash, debris, loose plant materials (such as tumbleweed), non-native vegetation, and noxious weeds. the association may, at the homeowner’s expense, take steps to remedy unsightly, unsanitary or hazardous conditions.

Board ElectionsSomersett owners Association will hold its board elections on Tuesday, august 10th at 5:30 pm in the loft (located in town Square above the Grape & the Grain). by now you have received your ballot and list of candidates. Please plan to attend and cast your vote. You may mail your ballot in advance or hand-deliver it when you attend the meeting. We encourage everyone to participate in this opportunity to support your community.

Summer Reminders• yard Maintenance. During recent community-wide inspections,

management staff observed yards and lots in need of attention. A well-maintained yard (and a lot free of weeds and debris) is a requirement at Somersett, so please spend the necessary time to maintain your property. Specifically, it is imperative that noxious weeds (primarily musk thistle and white top) be removed. the thistle has a beautiful purple flower, but it is an invasive weed.

• Speed Limits. Please obey posted speed limits and watch for pedestrians in crosswalks. We have noticed extra patrols from the reno Police Department, and they are handing out citations. Please slow down and drive safely through our neighborhoods.

• Roundabouts. Finally, a few simple rules to remember when traveling though roundabouts:

- the speed limit is 15 mph, so give yourself enough time to slow down before entering.

- Always yield to vehicles already in the roundabout. - Stay in one lane as you drive through—changing lanes is

prohibited. - be sure to signal as you exit the roundabout.

General Information:• address/phone/email changes. if you have any changes,

please notify Associated Management at [email protected]. thank you!

• Electronic assessment payments. Did you know you can pay your homeowner’s assessments electronically? Just fill out the eAP form and submit it to Associated Management. the form can be downloaded online (www.amiusa.net and log on to Somersett), or you can pick one up at the office.
