CAPITAL CAMPAIGN CORNER The highly anticipated surprise announcement is very exciting! Contracts have been approved and signed for the covered drop-off. Materials are on order with delivery ex-pected for construction to begin early fall. Even more exciting is that the design and scope of the covered area also includes the handicapped ramp. The cov-ered drop-off will be wide enough for two cars and tall enough to accommodate the height of delivery trucks, UPS, FedEx, etc., with minimal loss of existing parking spaces. The handicapped-ramp awning will extend to the Rec. Building roof and will cover the walkway on the side of the building and the new door entry located near the center of that wall. The most exciting news is that there is cash on hand to pay for all of this! Thanks to your faithful generosity and to our trustees’ diligent research and analysis. Your dedication, commitment and generoity each week increases our desire, and reinforces our determination, to be good stewards as we continue Preparing the Present to Transform the Future! of our church. You raised our Campaign fund total again this week to $726,961!
Remember, this Saturday, August 15, is
CHURCH YARD CLEAN-UP, SPRUCE-UP MORNING The St. Luke’s Men’s Group and any other interested mem-
bers and visitors are invited to do yard work for E.C.L. C. at the church this Saturday morn-ing, August 15th. If you can help, we’ll start at 7:30 a.m. and plan to work until noon. You don’t have to work the entire time; come at
any time and leave when you wish. Bring gloves, pitchforks, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, clippers, and small spades if you have them. We’ll clean up the playground, turn over mulch on the play areas, put in new mulch and sod, and trim overhanging vines off the fence. We’ll also clean up behind the Thrift Shop. If you were unable to work at the Habitat for Humanity project, this is your opportunity to work with your fellow church members…hey, no better time or place! We will have iced water and Gatorade. Hope you can join us!

Dear Friends,
Thank you to everyone who worked and provided food for
our Habitat build this past Saturday. It was a hot day, but we
made a tremendous amount of progress! I’m also amazed and
grateful to everyone’s generous response to our fundraising
efforts.
As you know, we’ve set an ambitious fundraising goal of
$10,000 for this year’s project. In just three weeks you’ve al-
ready given $5,706! Additionally, our Thrift Shop committee
has decided to contribute an additional $1,000 from their pro-
ceeds. So we’re already over halfway there! We’ll continue
to collect over the next several weeks, so there is still time for
you to contribute! You can make your checks out to St.
Luke’s and put Habitat in the memo line.
Also, this past Sunday we shared the news that our Trustees
have accepted a contract to begin construction on a new cov-
ered drive-through canopy for the back parking lot. Due to
great generosity and wise stewardship, we are able to com-
plete this project with cash on hand. We’ll keep you updated
on the official start date for construction!
Grace and Peace,
Ricky

MILLSAPS COOKIE BAKERS’ UPDATE
We need 86 dozen cookies, that’s 1,032 cookies! Cookie coordinator Dotty Gray is ea-gerly waiting for more volunteer cookie
bakers. We appreciate those of you who have already signed up; however,
we need dozens more cookies to have enough for this outreach ministry welcoming 1st year students and United Methodist students to Millsaps and our community. If you can help, please see the following important information. Call Dotty Gray (601-362-9979) and let her know how many
Cookies you’ll make.
Pick up pre-labeled sandwich bags from the church to pack-age your baked cookies.
Pack 4 cookies in each bag.
Deliver bagged cookies to the church by Sunday, August 23. NOTE: There’s more to be done once the cookies are deliv-ered to the church. Dotty and her team will label each bag of cookies with the individual student’s name and school mail-box number, arrange the bags in mailbox number order, and carefully pack them into several cardboard boxes for Ricky and Megan to deliver to Millsaps, compliments of St. Luke’s.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HEROES St. Luke’s is proud of the volunteers who braved the triple-digit temperature last Saturday to begin demolition inside the home that is being renovated for the family of Queen Owens. With the energy of an army, our people did an amaz-ing amount of work – taking up old carpet and flooring, re-moving wallpaper, emptying bathrooms of fixtures and chipped tile. We are so grateful to Ben Barham, Matthew Carr, Jim Emfinger, Mike Gaby, Ginger Hibbert, Joe Hibbert, Ricky James, Elizabeth Koestler, Steven Langley, Amanda Lyons, Boty McDonald, Doug McKibben, Willie Morris, Erin Robbins, Jane Owen Robbins, and Patricia Robbins. In addi-tion to these, a big thank you goes out to Vicki Emfinger for helping deliver and set up the food for lunch and to all of those who provided bottled water, soft drinks, sandwiches, chips, and cookies for nourishment. The new homeowner, Queen Owens, worked alongside the volunteers and was ex-tremely grateful for the all that was accomplished. This was truly an example of sharing God’s love with our neighbors in a tangible way.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY Fall is upon us and our Children’s Ministry is in gear! Promo-tion Sunday will be presented during the Children’s Moments portion of our worship service next Sunday, August 23. It’s not too late to volunteer to help with Fall Sunday School classes and the fall session of Children’s Church, both will begin soon. We also want to remind you that Cherub Choir rehearsal will resume during the Sunday school hour on Sun., Aug. 30. If you are interested in working with our children, please email Leah at [email protected]! All help is greatly appreciated.
THIS WEDNESDAY AT ST. LUKE’S ►2:00-4:00 p.m., Prayer Shawl Ministry Meets: Several St.
Luke’s members have been blessed with new babies during recent months; it’s rumored that more are on the way. Your Prayer Shawl Minis-try is honored and privileged to make a baby blanket to give each new arrival with blessings
from their church family. If you know of a member who is an-ticipating a birth, please let Dot Jaubert know in time to be sure a blanket is ready for the arrival. Confidentiality is respected! ►NO Choir Practice
