B Objectives
1. The objectives of the Psychiatry Course is to:
Provide the students with the basic knowledge about methods of classification of different
psychiatric disorders and associated clinical problems.
Enable the students to be proficient in psychiatric case history taking and mental state
assessment.
Enable the students to become familiar with the clinical features, pathogenesis and outcome
of the common psychiatric syndromes.
Outline the principles of management of patients with psychiatric disorders and to give the
students some idea about the range of available treatments, both psychological and
pharmacological.
Develop ability to cooperate with the team and to respect teamwork.
2. Plans for developing and improving the course that are being implemented.
Providing more web-based reference materials.
Studying the possibility of decreasing the number of students per clinical session group in
half.
Increase time for bedside teaching to be 4 hours per session instead of 3 hours.
More active utilization of the Clinical Skills Lab by introducing new video illustration and
simulations.
