Assalamu Alaikum AYA Family & Friends,
We are nearing the end of the year and it’s moving fast! Our Pre K, KG, 5th, 8th & 12th grade
students will be graduating to the next level of their academic careers; we will recognize our stel-
lar Parent Volunteers, and of course take Final Semester Exams, AP & IB Exams, along with
finalizing MAP Assessments. The purpose of all these steps is to complete our mission. We
strive to ensure that the students are learning and growing, and our faculty are engaging and im-
pactful with their teaching.
AYA’s mission “to produce future leaders, who will have achieved academic excellence, and are
morally and socially responsible citizens” is supported by unique programs and academics em-
bedded in our school culture and curriculum. In order to ensure that students are supported to
their highest potential, we recognize that it is imperative to further strengthen the collaboration
between our students, their families and the school. Keeping this in mind and heart, AYA ad-
ministration hosted 4 Open House sessions with parents between April 16th and May 1st. Fami-
lies of students transitioning from Kindergarten, 5th, 8th & 10th grade were invited to meet the
administration and faculty, and learn about the curriculum and programs for next year.
Parents of Kindergarten students were given a tour of the 1st Grade classrooms, and were ad-
dressed by the 1st Grade teachers. Our 5th graders rising to Middle School and the 8th grade
classes rising to High School enjoyed refreshments in the ICT Hall during the presentation spe-
cially prepared for them. For the families of 10th grade students, the 11th Grade Open House
presentation highlighted the special academic programs available to the students including the
International Baccalaureate Programme.
The Open Houses were well attended. Parents and Guardians submitted overall positive feedback
about the Open House, and were thankful for the information presented to them. Parents even
commented that the information they were given helped ease anxiety about the transitions, and
gained confidence in the value of the academic programs, curriculum, and extra curricular oppor-
tunities being offered to our Eagles.
We sincerely thank the families who joined us for the Open House. If you were unable to attend,
or simply have more questions or input to share, please contact the Head of School, Sr. Farhat
Siddiqui at [email protected] or Sr. Rubina Tariq, Principal of Academic Affairs, at rtar-

Arabic Spelling Bee Winners
The Arabic language holds special value for us as Muslims,
as it is the language of the Quran. In conjunction with Quran
and Islamic Studies, AYA Eagles take Arabic language clas-
ses from Kindergarten through Senior year, even in our IB
Programme. To encourage love and understanding of this im-
portant language, AYA hosts an annual Arabic Spelling Bee,
spearheaded by Sr. Kariman Rahhal, Head Coordinator of the
Arabic Department.
The first phase of the competition was held
in class, during Arabic instructional time.
Finalists in the in-class round then went on
to compete in the school-wide competition
by grade level. Parents and families attend-
ed the school wide competitions in support
of their students. The Elementary Arabic
Spelling Bee was held on March 21, and
the Secondary Arabic Spelling Bee was held on March 22.
We commend all of our finalists, and commend our 2nd &
3rd place winners in each grade level. Please visit our website
for a complete list of winners here:

First annual SPRING BAZAAR
We would like to extend a great thank you to all of the staff, community members, students and their families who
helped to make our first annual Spring Bazaar at AYA on April 7th, 2018, an enjoyable and relaxing event. It was a
well-attended and very successful event. There were foods, and vendors that attended and showcased their business.
We provided a variety of international cuisine booths which included Asian food, American food and Middle East-
ern food as well as desserts and drinks. There was face painting, a petting zoo, various games, bounce houses and
train rides through and around the campus that the students and their parents enjoyed. The Spring Bazaar had a fan-
tastic turn out and was a fun, family day for all who attended. We extend a special thank you to all the staff, parent
volunteers, for organizing this wonderful event for our community, under the direction of Sr. Rubina Tariq .

Art club: mural installment Written by: Muhammad Falah
This mural can be described using only one word: motivational. When we look at this mural we feel a sense of accomplish-ment because we were a part of a project that inspires the youth today to look beyond the possibilities in front of them and truly grow as people.
The quote used, “ A ship is safe at shore, but that is not what they are built for,” is a positive message that encourages society to leap from their comfort zone and explore new horizons. We took this quote and transformed it into a scenic ocean view. This is a good use of literal imagery, because as a person reads this quote they are put into a situation where the quote being read comes to life.
Feel free to soak up this life-like imagery as you enter the D-Building passage, around the bend from the QAIS Building. Thank you Sr. Helen for working with our inspired Eagle artists!
First annual aya student art exhibition
With the energy and inspiration of Art teacher Sr. Helen Cusack, AYA students produced amaz-
ing artwork which was displayed during the First Annual AYA Art Exhibit. Special guest,
Mayor of Temple Terrace , Dr. Mel Jurado- who was invited by Sr. Rubina Tariq, Principal of
Academic Affairs, joined in the celebration of creativity and art. She addressed the parents and
students and even toured the school. We are
very grateful for her support and so proud of
the creativity teaming through the halls from
our students.
