Lesson Outcomes: Students will be able to ask or respond in ASL: 1. Describe activities s/he will do during a specific day and time. 2. Describe what s/he will be doing during a specific day and time. 3. Incorporate wh-questions in phrases correctly. 4. Recognize on how to use DO++ questions 5. State the time sign at the beginning of the sentence 6. Identify lexical signs to describe the activities. Materials and Equipment: Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly calendars Daily Calendar worksheets Adjustable Educational Clock Video projector/screen/laptop Elmo/smart board Lesson Activity Sequence: 1. Demonstrate the calendar and clock illustration to identify and label calendar and clock signs. 2. Define grammar usage for calendar and clock signs: then advance the dialogues. Materials and Equipment:

• Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly calendars • Daily Calendar worksheets • Adjustable Educational Clock • Video projector/screen/laptop • Elmo/smart board

Lesson Activity Sequence:

1. Demonstrate the calendar and clock illustration to identify and label calendar and clock signs.

2. Define grammar usage for calendar and clock signs: then advance the dialogues. Recognize the wh-questions, DO-DO++ with calendar and clock signs

MONDAY – SESSION 1 OF 3

Greet with students and chat with them about the current events

• How their weekend was, take roll call, etc • Review information from previous week’s lesson plan

Introduce the Calendar Signs:

Introduction Activity: Introduce the calendar (appendix A-1 & A-2) on the smart board or screen to introduce the new signs: Write in the numbers in each day slot. TODAY YESTERDAY TOMORROW

WEEK NEXT-WEEK LAST-WEEK MONTH NEXT-MONTH LAST-MONTH YEAR NEXT-YEAR LAST-YEAR

Review the new signs by pointing to the specific day on the calendar on the smart board until all students answer correctly Class Activity: Ask each student what they will do on specific day. Demonstrate the dialogue using time sign at the beginning of the sentence. Write their response in the slot on the month calendar on the smart board. TOMORROW YOU DO++ WHAT YESTERDAY YOU DO++ WHAT TOMORROW YOU DO++ WHAT THIS WEEK YOU DO++ WHAT NEXT-WEEK YOU DO++ WHAT LAST-WEEK YOU DO++ WHAT THIS YEAR YOU DO++ WHAT NEXT-YEAR YOU DO++ WHAT LAST-YEAR YOU DO++ WHAT Group Activity: Split in groups of 2 - the students will ask each other those questions to practice new signs until all students are comfortable with the new signs.

Introduction Activity: Introduce the days of the week (Appendix A-1): MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY Introduce FUTURE, PAST and NOW as example signs: PAST+MONDAY, FUTURE+MONDAY. Review the new signs by pointing to the specific day on the month calendar on the smart board until all students answer correctly.

Class Activity: Ask each students with wh-questions such as: TODAY YOU DO++ WHAT, YESTERDAY YOU DO++ WHAT, TOMORROW YOU DO++ WHAT, FUTURE+FRIDAY YOU DO++ WHAT, PAST+FRIDAY YOU DO++ WHAT.

Group Activity: • Set up in small groups of 2-3 • Students are to ask each other what are they doing on specific

day.

WEDNESDAY – SESSION 2 OF 3

Greeting with students and chat with them about the current events.

• How their day was, take roll call • Review information from previous class on Calendar Signs

using all the Session 1’s class activities’ examples to ask students questions.

Introduction to Time Signs:

Introduction Activity: Introduce the clock (Appendix B) on the smart board to show on the screen. Introduce the new signs by showing each hour. Write in the hour/minute hands on the smart board. TIME+ONE TIME+TWO TIME+THREE (continue to 12) TIME+ONE-THIRTY TIME+TWO-THIRTY (continue to 12) TIME+12 NOON TIME+12+MIDNIGHT Explain the difference on AM and PM for the time signs. TIME+ONE MORNING TIME+ONE AFTERNOON TIME+SIX MORNING TIME+SIX EVENING Review the new signs by pointing to the specific time on the clock until the students answer correctly. Class Activity: Ask each student – what will they be doing at specific time on specific day. Example: TOMORROW YOU GO WORK TIME WHAT YESTERDAY YOU FINISH WORK TIME WHAT TOMORROW YOU WAKE UP TIME WHAT THIS WEEK YOU GO BED TIME WHAT TOMORROW TIME+THREE AFTERNOON YOU DO++ WHAT

Group Activity: Split into group of 2-3 each. Each student is to ask other student those questions using the new signs.

Introduction Activity: Introduce the PARTS OF THE DAY using daily schedule showing time from 6:00 am to midnight. EARLY MORNING MORNING ALL-MORNING NOON EARLY AFTERNOON AFTERNOON ALL-AFTERNOON LATE-AFTERNOON EVENING ALL-EVENING Review the new signs by pointing to the specific time on the daily schedule until students answer correctly. Class Activity - Asking all students using PARTS OF THE DAY questions as example: Use daily calendar on the smart board to write in the information to fill In each time slot. TOMORROW EARLY MORNING YOU DO++ WHAT ALL-MORNING YOU DO++ WHAT TOMORROW EARLY AFTERNOON YOU DO++ WHAT

Group Activity: Split into group of 2-3 each. Students will ask other student those questions using the new signs.

HOMEWORK:

1. Students are to research on the internet - to find three local, state and national deaf-related events with dates/time and locations

2. Review the calendar worksheet to practice signs based on what they learned. They will use those worksheet for next class session to review before proceed to the pop quiz to complete the assessment on their skills.

FRIDAY – SESSION 3 OF 3

Greeting with students and chat with them about the current events,

• How their day was, take roll call • Start the overall activity for assessment purpose

Overall activity to review all new signs:

• Distribute the blank daily and month calendar worksheets (Appendix A-1 & C) for each student to fill out the calendar information

• Split in groups of 2-3 • The student will take turn to give information to fill in the

calendar information. Homework Activity to review signs with expressive and receptive skills.

• Split in two groups • Each student will share the deaf-related events with date/time

and location. • After sharing the deaf-related events are completed, the student

will take turns to ask other students for specific information on their completed worksheet on what they are doing on specific day and time.

Pop Quiz Activity:

This pop quiz using the key worksheet will help measured their receptive skills. After completed the pop quiz, put the key worksheet on the Elmo so the students can compare their answers to the key answers. Students should be able to meet all the lesson objectives that the students will be able to ask or respond in ASL:

• Describe activities s/he will do during a specific day and time.

• Describe what s/he will be doing during a specific day and time.

• Incorporate wh-questions in phrases correctly. • Recognize on how to use DO++ questions • State the time sign at the beginning of the sentence • Identify lexical signs to describe the activities.

Methods / Approaches: a. Direct Method - The DEM techniques to introduce the new lexical signs, and they

are the everyday vocabulary. I used the target language nearly 100% of the time in my lesson plan.

b. Functional Notional Approach - I used the function of "What did you do on specific

day” to discuss the dates and personal activities or events. c. Cooperative Learning and Student-Centered approaches - The students will be split in groups to ask each other what did they do on specific day?
