This weekend, June 1st and 2nd, there is a special collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and the Catholic University of America .

This campaign connects people with Christ,

here and around the world in developing countries, through the internet, television, radio, and print media. Fifty percent of funds collected remain in our diocese to

fund local communication efforts. Your support helps spread the gospel message! To learn more: www.usccb.org/ccc.

Faith Formation students, teachers, and families gathered in the parish hall for crafts, fellowship, and

some amazing tacos. Ms. Betsy’s 5th-8th Grade students led their younger peers in creating prayer

beach balls for use during the summer months (or, more appropriately October in Pacific Grove),

sand crosses to put in their room, and they used cloves and sharpies to decorate their own family

paschal candles for summer prayer. A huge thank you to all of the families—this year we

learned so many amazing things. We cannot wait until classes resume in the fall.

Have a wonderful, restful, and safe summer.

Who inspires the Confirmation Students at St. Angela Merici? Below are the Saints whom our students have chosen as they are confirmed.

Saint Sebastian

St. Sebastian is an early Christian Saint and Martyr. He was first widely spoken of by Ambrose of Milan (Saint Ambrose) when preaching about Psalm 118. Among other patronages, Saint Sebastian is the patron saint of Athletes.

Saint Anthony of Padua

St. Anthony of Padua was born into a wealthy family in Lisbon and at the age of 15 entered the Order of the Holy Cross. After his ordination, Anthony was attracted to the simple evangelical lifestyle of the Franciscan Friars, whose order had been founded only eleven years prior, and soon joined the order. He spent his life teaching and preaching in Europe before dying in 1231 at the age of 35.

Saint Brigid

St. Brigid is one of Ireland’s Patron Saints along with Patrick and Columba. Stories about her life include being an early Irish nun, abbess, and foundress of several monasteries.

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

Kateri was born in the Mohawk village of Ossernon. She converted to Catholicism at age nineteen, when she was renamed Kateri, in honor of Saint Catherine of Siena. She lived her life in a Jesuit mission village south of what is now Montreal. She is the Patron Saint of the environment.

Saint Dymphna

Saint Dymphna lived and died in the 7th Century. She was born in Ireland and died in Belgium. Her biography includes having died at the hands of her father. She is the Patron Saint of many issues related to mental health.

Saint Luke, the Evangelist

Luke was born in modern Syria during a period when it was part of the Roman Empire. He died in Thebes, Greece. The early Church Fathers ascribed him to authorship of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles – to books which, when combined, comprise about a quarter of the New Testament. Saint Luke is mentioned briefly in Saint Paul’s letter to the Colossians, wherein he is referred to as a physician. In art, Saint Luke is often symbolized as a bull.

Saint Clare of Assisi

Saint Clare was born in 1194 in Assisi and there she died in 1253 – 59 years later. She was a follower of Saint Francis of Assisi and founded the Order of Poor Ladies. The Rule of Life for the Order of Poor Ladies was the first set of monastic guidelines to have been written by a woman. Following her death, the Order was renamed in her honor – Order of Saint Clare, commonly called the Poor Clares.

Saint Catherine de Virgi

(of Bologna)

Saint Catherine was born in 1413 in Bologna, and there she died in 1463, some 49 years later. She came from an upper class family and was raised in the court of Niccolo III, which afforded her access to education and art. She wrote many treatises, lauds, and copied and illustrated her own breviary. She is the Patron Saint of artists.

Saint Martha

“As they continued their journey, he entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary, who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to Him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me my by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” The Lord said in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” (Luke 10)
