Research• I think the strength of my research is in the existing products section, this helped me get an

idea of what type of photographs I wanted to create when I started and the type of photographs that would appeal to my target audience, as these photographs are taken by someone whom I know for a fact that they target the same audience as I hope to. My research helped me create a basic 'template' idea of what to do and what not to do when taking the type of photographs that appeal to my target audience. The weakness of my research is probably my interviews section; I could definitely have asked more open questions and gotten a better, more helpful answer, this would have probably given me some more specific features to focus on when taking my shots. In term of technicalities from my research I understood that the main viewer of my images were going to be people who were more into daylight photography and were mainly males, so this helped me orient my photographs in a male way; for instance, using trains, cars and architecture.

Planning• The planning that I did was fairly detailed, the mind map I created helped me choose which project had the

most positive and negative reasons for choosing it, the mood board section of the planning gave me some inspiration for taking some similar community oriented photographs, I could also choose some of the reasons why I liked these images and apply them to my product, for instance, almost all of these images is shot in film, so I shot film for most of my portfolio, the weakness of my planning is probably in the analysis, where I could have gone into more detail when talking about some of the Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tones/moods etc. Extending this section could probably have improved my work by having a more diverse selection of things that could improve my work. I apprehended that most of the people who would want to view my photographs would most likely be Type A and adults with more than most in terms of free time, this was mainly to appeal to my products idea of creating an interest in the community that these people are more than likely going to spend the rest of their lives.

Time Management• Though it seemed we only had a very short time to complete this project

in comparison to some of the other projects we had done, I feel as though I was able to keep up with most of the progression throughout; not falling behind much, I definitely think that I could have done a lot more if I had more time, some of the earlier PowerPoints could have been done more detailed if it didn’t seem like we had to rush through most of the work.

From my schedule I can see that I completed the photography part of my task slightly earlier than I anticipated, from here to hereI had some film left over from my first project so I saved some time when completing the task and was able to use the extra day hereTo finish miscellaneousTasks off.

Target Audience Appeal• The target audience was mainly working adults who are somewhat invested in the

community or wish to be invested in their community, the project hoped to give people a reason to start helping out their local community, going to local communal events or just helping to support local charities or care homes. The Psychographic was supposed to be a Type A person, this was because the project hoped to create some interest in the community, which follows the main goal of my project.

Technical QualitiesBoth images are of similar subjects, lake, sky and houses/buildings in the background.

It is mainly the features and lighting that changes the photographs in my image, for instance the point of interest starts at the woman waking down the long path towards the bend in the canal whereas in the other it is the boat in the lake.

My image is slightly more colourful and summery whereas the image below used as an example gives the idea of it being autumn or winter, due to the clear blue sky and having a lighter almost frosty lake.

Aesthetic Qualities

For my project I shot all of my images with one of my favorite films, I took most of these images with the objective rules of composition in mind, so all of the shots will have some kind of rule put in place such as the rule of thirds, the golden spiral, the rule of odds etc, so objectively some of the features are designed to look good, some of the images tried to play with light and perspective so in my opinion I think the images are creative. In order to improve my photographs I could have used a larger format camera and use 120 film to increase the overall quality.

Woman is on rule of thirds grid

Audience AppealMy goal with this project was to appeal to people who want to get

involved in their local community and to see what goes on behind the scenes if they have an ounce of interest, this image showcases the local fire station, in a gritty but bright and colourful way it also promotes a

good message to the community on the side of the fire truck. This also relates to the male and teen aspect of the audience as quite a lot of teen males are interested in the fire service or the local services

and would like to pursue a career in them some day.

In this image the local walks and trails are

promoted, the idea would be that people would gain some respect of what the companies who look after these waters do it for the

community.

Peer Feedback Summary

• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?– I agree that I could have shot more images to build a

bigger portfolio• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?

– I don't think the change of film is necessary to convey what I wanted as the type of film I used in my images was a fairly balanced mix between some of the Kodak style colour films which are vivid in colour and some of the other slide films that were used in professional photography, the change in film would have cost more money in film and developing also, and far more time.

Peer Feedback Summary

• To improve my work I would probably take more shots of a wider range of things in my community, I would probably get some more of the organisations and companies that help to keep the community safe and clean, even some of the small family businesses that help to improve my town every day. This would not only improve the size of my portfolio but also increase the value of it a lot. I would probably take generally more images as to build a bigger portfolio, even maybe 5 more shots would have added to the target audience appeal, as this would have given a larger range of influence to that specific audience – in my opinion. This is generally the case for my project, the more the better in this case, however with the amount of time I had it was hard even to pick out 10 good images, when most professional photographers present projects they take at least a year to gather almost 20 images as the average amount of good images per roll or 36 shots is usually around 2 if you are lucky.
