We Show Respect We are Fair We are Learners
Congratulations on a terrific working week last week.
Teachers are grateful for the support that parents are
providing with the remote learning and understanding
where adjustments and changes of routine may be
necessary. An important thing to remember with the
learning tasks is that the end product is simply a method
of achieving the learning – not the main point of the
exercise. It is the learning that happens when getting to
the end product that is important. The learning means
both the skills for a particular subject and the habits and
attitudes that help us squeeze as much learning as
possible from a task. This is why we emphasise that
getting things done the fastest is not important and that
making mistakes is ok – we are much more interested in
the learning that happens along the journey. We design
tasks that have an end product so we can see evidence
of learning that has happened – but that can be seen in
other ways as well.
We still do not know how long the remote learning will
continue. We have to follow the direction set by the
Victorian State Government health and education
authorities. Please keep that in mind when there may be
some differences in messaging from different states or
the Federal Government. I will certainly share any
information I have as soon as I can – though no doubt the
media will be sharing it as well. At this stage we keep on
doing what we are doing now.
Don’t forget that Sarah is happy to organise library books
for pickup in the foyer of the school. Her contact details

Make sure you take advantage of the clear weather this
week and get some fresh air and exercise to offset the
extra screen time.

In February our annual School Council elections were held. We would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge the
contribution of outgoing members Michelle Crocker, Jane Murphy and Melissa Quick. We also welcome new
members Kate Stagg, Bethany Boddenberg, Faith Deans and re-elected member Orrin Prichard.
During the Annual General Meeting in March our 2020 office bearers were appointed as follows:
President – Jane Dowsley
Treasurer – Michael Walsh
Secretary - Carly Frank
Co-Vice-Presidents – Faith Deans and Orrin Prichard
In addition, the following sub-committees were established:
Finance Sub-Committee – Michael Edwards, Sandra McKibbin, Michael Walsh, Robyn Wilson, Paige Rolfe and
Jane Dowsley.
Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Sub-Committee – Michael Edwards, Bethany Boddenberg and Tennille
McIntosh.
Policy Sub-Committee – Michael Edwards, Faith Deans and Carly Frank.
Kindergarten Committee of Management School Council Representatives – Michael Edwards and Kate Stagg.
School community members are welcome to attend any meetings, please come along and contribute if you wish to
do so. You can find the dates/times in the ‘Dates to Remember’ section of the newsletter.
2020 Budget
We would like to commend Michael Edwards, his team and past School Council’s for the prudent financial
management of the school over a number of years. As a result, we have been able to approve an additional $20,000
expenditure to upgrade the School’s core literacy and numeracy resources.
Unfortunately reduced fundraising opportunities such as cancellation of the Folk Festival have resulted in the ‘Dry
Creek Bed Inclusive Play Space’ project being placed on hold. We will continue to review fundraising expenditure and
grant opportunities throughout the year.
School Works – Shelter-in-Place Building
You may notice staff from the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) completing works on the main school
building. These works are required to ensure the building meets updated requirements for Shelter-in-Place Buildings
i.e. buildings that provide a last resort temporary shelter option until either an emergency has passed or a more
suitable alternative is available. We have been informed these works will be completed by June 30.
Remote Learning
Lastly, and in no way the least, we would like to acknowledge the extended school community (including
kindergarten and OHSC) for your response to remote learning. In no way is this situation ideal. It’s presenting
challenges for many of us within the school community. However, the resilience, persistence, commitment,
enthusiasm and support displayed by Michael, the teaching cohort, the parent/care-giver cohort and our students is
exemplary. There is simply no place I’d rather be right now, and I’m sure my fellow Council members agree.
Sincerely,
Jane Dowsley
Yackandandah Primary School Council President
