The self portrait has long been a traditional subject matter for artists, regardless of the media with which they work.

Photographers are no exception.

This is NOT A SELFIEThis is a representation of SELF in a CONCEPTUAL way.

You will communicate something about yourself:• Personality• Interests• Other side of self• Identity

Assignment:After watching The Art of SELF PORTRAITS video and viewing the examples in this Art of Self Portraits in Photo pdf, produce a series of “theme based” Self Portrait images that ENGAGE the viewer. At least one of these photos should “capture” your personality. This is NOT A SELFIE, even if you are taking the image of yourself. This is CONCEPTUAL. Another person may take the photo for you if you don’t have the resources/ability to do it yourself, but YOU are the “DIRECTOR” of the shot.

Theme examples:• Reflected Image• The Hidden Self/Disassociation of Self

• Photographer in their Environment• Self Interest

• Homage to Another Artist’s Self Portrait (provide the example of your inspiration)

Thought, planning and a bit of research will be necessary -such as props, location, editing. Take the time to shoot NEW images! You are welcome to use Photoshop to alter and/or edit the images. Have some fun with this!

Each of the "Final 5” completed images should be shared in Teams in Assignments. I will put them together in a Power Point for final critique. Art of Self Portraits Video Link
