Worlds biggest earth filled dam

The Tarbela Dam takes the cake as the largest earth-filled dam on planet earth. It's also the 5th largest structure in the world by volume. The dam was first constructed to control flooding from the Indus River into the farming villages that sat in the basin.

The dam was completed in 1976 and was designed to store water from the Indus River for irrigation, flood control, and the generation of hydroelectric power. The dam is 143 metres (470 ft) high above the riverbed. The dam’s reservoir, TarbelaLake, has a surface area of approximately 250 square kilometres (97 sq mi).

Tarbela Dam’s primary use is electricity generation. The installed capacity of the 4,888 MW Tarbela hydroelectric power stations will increase to 6,298 MW after completion of the planned fifth extension financed by Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The Karakoram Highway

The Karakoram Highway known by its initials KKH, also known as N-35 or National Highway 35 or the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway is a 1,300 km (810 mi) national highway which extends from Hasan Abdal in the Punjab province of Pakistan to the KhunjerabPass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into China and becomes China National Highway 314.

The highway connects the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plus Gilgit-Baltistan with China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The highway is a popular tourist attraction and is one of the highest paved roads in the world, passing through the Karakoram mountain range. Due to its high elevation and the difficult conditions in which it was constructed, it is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Facts about Pakistan’s economyPakistan’s economic freedom score is 54.8, making its economy the 135th freest in the 2020 Index. Its overall score has decreased by 0.2 point because of a drop in the fiscal health score. Pakistan is ranked 32nd among 42 countries in the Asia–Pacific region, and its overall score is well below the regional and world averages.

The Pakistani economy has been mostly unfree since the inception of the Index in 1995. GDP growth, however, has been vigorous for the past five years, led by exports of cotton textiles.

Economic freedom in Pakistan is impeded by inadequate protection of property rights and the government’s failure to enforce anticorruption statutes and laws against crimes like money laundering and financing of terrorism. Regulatory inefficiencies, complex labor laws, and an unreliable security situation continue to burden the business environment. High tariffs reduce the buying power of average Pakistanis’ income and hurt efforts to reduce poverty.

Monhenjo-daro

People who enjoy history will have a hard time passing up a chance to visit Mohenjo-daro in Sindh, an archaeological site dating back to 2500 BCE. An extensive study and excavation of the area led to the conclusion that the mounds and ruins were once a part of the Indus Valley Civilisation, a contemporary of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Among other things, Mohenjo-daro was built according to a grid plan, boasted an efficient water management system and featured public baths – all of this is considered advanced urban planning and civil engineering well ahead of its time.

The city was eventually abandoned around 1900 BCE for obscure reasons and was not rediscovered until the 1920s. Detailed excavation continued until 1966, after which all in-depth archaeological work was halted due to damage inflicted by the weather. Mohenjo-daro was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 and can be visited via private transport, public bus or weekly flights from Karachi
