WHAT THE FLOODS DID?

Heavy rains, flash flooding and subsequent landslides in Gilgit Baltistan, cause unprecedented damage. 183 lives lost. 82,000 people displaced . 342 villages ravaged. 71,885 Kanals of land (including agricultural land) destroyed.

Infrastructure Shaken. 947km of road, 182 bridges , 3157 Houses 83 Schools and 3 Hospitals damaged.

Challenge : Gilgit-Baltistan’s nascent political status, remoteness and poor accessibility, lack of capacity and expertise to handle disasters

The Agriculture Ministry was asked for a needs assessment Formal discussion with Agriculture Department (February)

Action Plan formulated( mid February) Retrieved the unutilized seed stock from Sindh & Baluchistan for GB ( February

18)
