Palmers Green plays host to one of North London’s top Blues clubs –

St Harmonica’s. Together with The Vintage Blues Music Association,

Winkworth, The Friends of Broomfield Park and a host of supporting

friends, we are delighted to bring you another August full of the best

in Blues.

Broomfield Blues is our annual celebration and showcase of what can

be found every Friday evening at St Harmonica’s. Each Sunday

afternoon during August come along, eat, drink and listen to three

hours of some of the best Blues music London has to offer.

If you like what you hear all we ask is that you acknowledge that by

contributing to the collection “hat”, either when it does the rounds,

or via the event Control Point.

We’ve picked some excellent local cuisine for your added enjoyment

and thanks to Starbucks in Palmers Green we are able to offer

presence to one charity each week where you can buy coffee and

light bites to help support their cause.

More details of everything can be found in this, our first ever

Broomfield Blues Official 2015 Information Pack, also kindly funded

by our sponsor, Winkworth. Read, enjoy and come along to as many

of the five concerts as you can. Unless a hurricane appears we will

certainly be there each Sunday; and if it does, we will endeavour to

relocate the music to St Harmonicas itself, only five minutes walk

away on Cannon Hill.

Each afternoon is preceded by a one hour “open mic” session at 1:30

offering a stage to up and coming as well as experienced performers.

Do come along early to support them.

Open mic registration requests via www.thevintage.org.uk

The Broomfield Blues musical spectacular is now a regular

part of Enfield’s Festival calendar. Winkworth has been

delighted to support the efforts of the local community to

develop this event and to ensure free entry is available to all.

Winkworth look forward to supporting many more years of

Blues music in Bromfield Park, which adds to our long

running sponsorship of the Palmers Green Festival.

Week 1 - Sunday 2nd August 2015

Two of the most accomplished slide guitar players in the UK will kick-off the 2015 Blues

season on the Broomfield Bandstand following the introductory open-mic sessions.

1:30 -2:30 OPEN MIC SESSIONS

2:30 – 3:30

Graham Hine, slide guitarist with the legendary Brett Marvin and

the Thunderbolts and Blue Goose recording artist delivers his

solo set of original material with Delta Blues Classics. There are

many that think that Graham is one of the UK’s finest slide

players and singer/songwriters. Find out just how good this

former Blue Goose recording artist really is and why Eric Clapton

wanted to buy his guitar.

3:45 – 5:30

Martin Fieber, the ‘Sultan of Slide’ is perhaps the UK’s

best kept slide secret. He brings his hugely talented

band ‘The Customtones’, one of the finest, and tightest,

units around to Broomfield. Martin is not known as the

Sultan of Slide for nothing, he makes all his own guitars

under his ‘Customtone’ label and the tone and the

sound he achieves is staggering; some of his original

material is equally wonderful.

The rest of the band are all masters of

their instruments with Mick Parker on

drums, Terry Duggan on bass and Steve

Taylor on keyboards.

Terrific stuff that you simply must not

miss, so see you there!

Week 2 - Sunday 9th August 2015

Two of London’s finest guitar driven bands bring you an afternoon of Southern Blues Rock.

1:30 -2:30 OPEN MIC SESSIONS

2:30 – 3:30

A top performance is in prospect for you this Sunday

when that man with the cherry red Gibson 335, John

Hoare, brings his popular local band, The Haunting AD,

to Broomfield with their bluesy line up to play their

bluesy set. The Haunting AD are a long established

band of impeccable

pedigree boasting John

Hoare on guitar and

Caroline’s sublime vocals.

Outstanding musicianship and Witchy vocals always result in

a packed house wherever this band plays. Get there early.

3:45 – 5:30

The Blues Chapter are possibly the finest young Blues band in the capital. Jesse Thomas on

guitar with shades of Gary Moore, SRV and Joe Bonamassa in their repertoire, they are

simply a great festival

band. Those who are

about to rock…we

musicians, masters of their instruments, will be giving their take on Appalachian and Blue

Grass with a distinctly Celtic feel.

3:45 – 5:30

The Low Down Dogs provide acoustic and electric blues that

meanders from the Mississippi Delta via Memphis and

Chicago to the New River Delta! Mad Dog Dave Barnes

possesses the best Blues voice in the business and he is also a

master of slide guitar and harmonica. With a band to match,

comprising Vintage players John Crowther on lead guitar &

mandolin and sharing vocal duties, Dave Thomas on bass and

vocals, and Pete Abernethy on drums.

Week 4 - Sunday 23rd August 2015

1:30 -2:30 OPEN MIC SESSIONS

2:30 – 3:15 and

4:30 – 5:30

Two sets of gypsy Jazz played on Macaferri

guitars in the style of Django Rheinhart.

That’s what ‘The Hot Club’ will be bringing to

the park on a summer afternoon to

accompany the top quality refreshments

available in the bandstand area.

This band really knows how to capture the authentic Gypsy Jazz sound. Expect accordions

and violins as well as great vocals accompanied by those infectious guitar rhythms.

Support is by That Blue Patch, multi-instrumentalists Ruth and Dave Buckwell, with their

unique, eclectic take on Blues and other classics. Entertainment with music, banter and

humour from these very popular local musicians.

The Blues isn’t all about the guitar. Professor Redhair plays a blend of

New Orleans piano driven sounds in the style of

Dr John and Professor Longhair himself, that will

have you up and moving, or at least tapping your

feet.

3:45 – 5:30

We’re delighted to have

award winning

recording artist

harmonica ace, Paul

Lamb, playing his

acoustic set with Chad

Strentz. Paul has been

voted the UK’s number

1 Harmonica player as

well as having the best

album. They have been

playing to sell-out

audiences across the

country and we're delighted to welcome them. There’s nobody more accomplished or more

entertaining.

Check out Paul's website, www.paullamb.com and make sure you arrive early to help see off

the Broomfield Blues 2015 in style.

Refreshments for your Enjoyment

Top fare for Blues afternoons will be available in the Bandstand area.

Not just good but the best! Palmers

Green’s own eco-cuisine is a national

award winning caterer. Sonny will be

developing different cuisine to fit each

week: perhaps BBQ, Indian or Thai curries, lasagne or shepherd’s pie

that will have you baaing for more. And do look out for the chocolate

brownies. www.eco-cuisine.co.uk

For afters, or starters, or even both, try Opera Ice Cream. Kerry is an opera

singer, Spasko an ice-dreamer, together they produce a homemade, locally

sourced cold wonder, identified last year by the Palmers Green Community

webmaster as the world’s best ice cream. For Blues 2015 they will add frozen

yoghurts and magical fruit concoctions to ensure a warm welcome back from

the Blues crowd.

www.operaicecream.com

Pimms, ale’s or wines, Sue has them all. Last year she found many

Bluesers were not lager devotees so for 2015, as well as the proven

range of drinks, also expect a core real ale plus a different guest ale

each week from the Oxfordshire Ales brewery.

Real ale drinkers will love it ...

The Friends of Broomfield Park

The Friends of Broomfield Park – and aren’t we all at heart – are a

group of volunteers who work with Enfield Council to improve the

Park's appearance, facilities, conservation value and safety, so that it

can be enjoyed by all. They always welcome new members wishing

to support making the Park a better place. Why not become a

supporting member when visiting the Blues?

To find out more, visit www.friendsofbroomfieldpark.org or ask at

the Control Point.

The Vintage Blues Music Association is pleased to be working with

the Friends to bring you Broomfield Blues 2015.

Blues Supporting Local Charities

Each week a chosen charity will be selling hot drinks courtesy of

Starbucks Palmers Green and providing some light snacks for sale.

Pop along, find out who they are, what they do, and perhaps buy

something to help them. In 2014 Broomfield Blues resulted in over

£1000 being raised by the charities. In 2015 the charities being

supported are:-

The Ruth Winston Centre www.ruthwinstoncentre.com

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice www.noahsarkhospice.org.uk

North London Samaritans www.northlondonsamaritans.org.uk

Bikes for Good Causes working in partnership with Action for

Kids www.actionforkids.org and bikesforgoodcauses.co.uk

We’re pleased to be able to support them in this enjoyable way.
