The backdrop of Troilus and Cressida takes place during the Trojan War but
director Jim Ewald’s interesting and unusual take will be Star Wars-themed
with the lighter side of Troy versus the darker side of the Greeks!
For the better part of a decade the Greeks have been fighting the Trojans.
For the princes of Troy, love and war will intertwine and change their lives
forever.
Paris and his lover Helen, for whom the war is being fought, care only about
being with each other. Hector, Trojan General and Paris’ older brother dreams of distinguishing himself on the
battlefield for the glory of Troy, while Troilus, the youngest brother, dreams only of the beautiful Cressida.
With the help of Cressida’s uncle Pandarus, Troilus and Cressida fall madly in love; however their love is short
lived. Cressida’s mother has defected to the Greeks and requests her daughter to be brought to her in exchange
for a Trojan General. The two lovers swear undying love for each other and Troilus promises to visit Cressida
in the Greek camp, despite the dangers of entering enemy territory. It is equally dangerous, however, for a
woman alone and unprotected in an enemy’s camp, and the path Cressida must chose threatens to tear their love
apart.
Will Hector’s ambitious love of glory, Paris’ selfish love of Helen, and Troilus’ anguished love of Cressida be,
as Helen herself unconsciously prophesizes, a love that will “undo us all"?

number, date you would like to see show and whether you are an Arden Club member, non-member, senior
or student. Calls will only be returned if the show is sold out.
2) E-mail [email protected]. Give the same information as indicated above. The reservationist
will confirm via e-mail and ask for any missing information. Reservations are held at the reservation tent
until 7:20 PM on the night of the show.
Volunteers are needed for the production staff, including selling refreshments, helping with costume changes,
help with props, and assistance with parking. Please contact Laura Wallace at [email protected] if
you are interested in helping “behind the scenes.”

Joe is one of the greatest bluesmen of his generation. He is a
four-time Blues Music Award winner and 2013 Blues Hall of
Fame inductee who has appeared on multiple Grammy-
winning albums. He is known worldwide as one of the genre’s top musical trailblazers—a mesmerizing
guitarist and soul-testifying vocalist.
The New York Times raves, “Walker is a singer with a Cadillac of a voice. He delivers no-nonsense, gutsy
blues. His guitar solos are fast, wiry and incisive, moaning with bluesy despair.” Rolling Stone simply calls
him “ferocious.”

Drummer’s Circle
The Arden Drummer’s Circle, sponsored by the Concert Gild, meets every third
Sunday of each month at 1 PM (generally running about 2 hours or so). Beginners
and professionals alike are invited to join with us. We often play some common
rhythms and then we improvise. Bring a drum or two, and/or percussion
instruments. In fair weather, we meet outdoors of the Gild Hall, but in cold or rainy
weather we move into the Lower Gild Hall. We also sometimes have one or two
evening events during the year that often take the place of the monthly event.

Our Wonderful 2015-2016 Season!
The first season with the new kitchen flew by and everyone can rejuvenate over the summer,
planning all kinds of delicious choices for the 2016-2017 season. New dinners will begin in
October 2016. Meanwhile, the Dinner Gild would like to thank all the lead cooks and crew
members for a successful season. The following Gilds, groups, and individuals participated this
past season:
Ardencroft, Arden Singers, Shakespeare Gild, Library Gild, Folk Gild, Bridge Gild, Library Gild,
Poetry Gild, Arden Building and Loan, ACRA, Swim Gild, Concert Gild, Ivy Gables, Annie
Gutsche, the Trish Donohue, Hope Zucker and Dave DeGarmo group, The Northwood Family,
Edmond Bischoff, Mhairi and Stuart Craig, Nancy Clay, Jim Bilke and Ellen Pollack, the Kleban,
Vincent, and Borders gang, Grace Ressler, Pat Toman and Seth Baker.
Special thanks also goes out to our Dinner Gild support staff:
Edmond Bischoff (gilmaster and chef), M.P. Moon (cashier, secretary, and manager), Laura
Wallace (scheduler, manager and cook), Claire Ennis (reservations and cashier), Linda Toman
(treasurer and cook), Roy Dean (cashier), Patricia Williams (cashier and substitute treasurer),
Gerry Konzelman (manager and Web page master), Barbara Jacobs and Ina Jacobs (master
managers), and finally, George Brocklesby and his crew!
There is always room for more Gilds and individuals to become involved, so please consider
gathering a group of friends to create a lovely meal for the upcoming season. The new
equipment really helps to get the job done.
And finally, thank you to all the members of the community for sharing dinner with us on Saturday nights.
Garden Party
The Gardeners Gild’s annual Garden Party will be held in Barb Rosen’s garden off Veale
Road, in the Fairfield section of North Wilmington, on Monday, June 6, 2016, beginning at
5:30 PM. Barb's garden is a fanciful and unique half-acre home landscape full of repurposed
materials and flowers. Planned to cater to birds, butterflies, and fairies, this garden has
something to see everywhere you look. You will find a vegetable and herb garden made from
cast-off shutters, a repurposed windows greenhouse, gazebo, water features, arbors, and
more. All have been done with a whimsical touch that makes this a happy garden to stroll
through.
Barb Rosen is a retired educator with a passion for gardening and painting and she is a
member of the Arden Club Gardeners Gild.
This is a potluck event. Plates, silverware & beverages will be provided. Please bring your
favorite dish to share. This event will take place rain or shine.

LIBRARY GILD
Our book storage is very full thanks to all your help, so PLEASE hold any further donations for the Fair until
mid-August. At that point they can be dropped off on the stage of the Upper Gild Hall.
Our hours are Sunday from 2:30 to 4 PM, Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 PM, and Thursday from 3:30 to 5 PM.
Our Saturday evening hours will resume next fall in conjunction with the Dinner Gild dinners. Volunteers are
always welcome, stop in and chat with a librarian about becoming one of our valued and able crew.
We have a number of new books, two are featured here.
Journey to Munich: a novel by Jacqueline Winspear
Booklist (March 15, 2016 (Vol. 112, No. 14))
Maisie Dobbs proves herself wily and fiercely determined again in this twelfth series
entry, set in 1938, as she faces down another formidable enemy and some of her own
personal demons. Happy with Maisie’s previous successful mission (A Dangerous
Place, 2015), British intelligence, again exercising its penchant for using civilian spies
in the pre-WWII era, sends Maisie to retrieve Leon Donat, an elderly businessman
accused of sedition, from Nazi clutches in Dachau. While Maisie’s in Germany, an
acquaintance hopes she will convince his daughter to leave her Nazi lover and return to
England. In every way, things are a bit more complicated than anticipated, and our
indomitable spy lands in a tight spot. A miasma of hatred, suspicion, and uncertainty
pervades, and the inconsistencies in many characters’ behavior highlight the fine moral
line that, in wartime, is constantly shifting. A sense of melancholy and world-
weariness makes this entry a little darker than others in the series.
Fool me once by Harlan Coben

Capt. Maya Stern Burkett, the heroine of this stellar stand-alone from Edgar-winner
Coben (The Stranger), has suffered more than her fair share of tragedy. Her career as a
U.S. Army helicopter pilot came to an end after whistle-blower Corey Rudzinski
exposed the civilian deaths caused by her actions in Iraq. Even worse, her husband, Joe
Burkett, is shot to death in front of her in Manhattan's Central Park, though Maya is
able to give a good description of the masked killers to an NYPD homicide detective.
Maya is already dealing with the nightmares from her combat experiences and the
murder of her sister, Claire, four months earlier while Maya was stationed in Kuwait.
Then, weeks after Joe's funeral, a recently installed nanny cam shows her two-year-old
daughter, Lily, crawling onto Joe's lap. Other shocks follow. Implausible links arise
between Joe's death and Claire's, and she must face the possibility of more revelations
from Rudzinski. Coben is like a skilled magician saving the best, most stunning trick
for the very end.

The History and Future of the Wilmington Waterfront
The final Scholars Gild discussion of the season will be led by Sally O'Byrne, author and
long-time city activist. This discussion will focus on the historical role of the Wilmington waterfront in the
development of the City of Wilmington into the city of today. We will use this rich history to lead into a
discussion of the future of the city's relationship to the waterfront, the role of the Riverfront Development
Corps (RDC), the money being spent in support of the RDC vs. downtown Wilmington, and other topics
impacting the future of the city and the waterfront. All are invited to attend and join our discussion about the
Wilmington waterfront history and the potential role of the waterfront in the future.
A lifelong Delawarean, Sally O'Byrne has lived in the City of Wilmington since 1977, when she and her
husband Terry were awarded an urban homesteading house in the Cool Springs Neighborhood. After earning a
Masters in Regional Planning, Sally became very interested in urban issues, becoming president (circa 1980 -
85) of Cityside, Inc , an organization dedicated to living in the city. Her interest in the rivers of the city goes
back to that time, when, in 1979, Cityside was awarded a grant from the National Trust for Historic
Preservation under their Maritime Preservation fund, to do an inventory of waterfront properties.
Still living in downtown Wilmington, Sally has also pursued her lifelong interest in natural history as a
teacher/naturalist for over 25 years for the Delaware Nature Society. She coordinated the avian survey at the
Russell Peterson Wildlife Refuge in 2000 and is currently working on bird issues in the state and region. Sally
is past president of the Delmarva Ornithological Society and has served on the Boards of both Hawk Mountain
Sanctuary and Delaware Nature Society.
There is no fee to attend Scholars Gild discussions; please consider making a donation at the door to help
cover the costs of putting on these events and to support the Arden Club.
The Poetry Gild meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the Library at Gild
Hall. Bring your own spoken word poem or any writing of your choosing to share.

A Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol
The Ardensingers will be presenting A G&S Christmas Carol on the second and
third weekends of December. This humorous adaptation of A Christmas Carol is
set to the music of Arthur Sullivan, but remains faithful to the spirit of the
Charles Dickens original. The major roles were cast during auditions in mid-May, but we'd very much
welcome new Chorus members, or production committee assistance. Please visit our website,

ages.
Other Upcoming Ardensingers Activities
We'll be singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the Thursday, July 28, 2016, Wilmington Blue Rocks game.
There will be a couple of rehearsals ahead of the game. It's a fun ballpark, with inexpensive tickets, food, and
beverages. Guests are welcome. On game night there will be a Cowboy Monkey Rodeo and fireworks after the
game.
The Ardensingers host the Beer and Wine Booth each year at the Arden Fair. This year it will be on Sat. Sept.
3, 2016. It's an important source of revenue to keep lights and heat on in the Gild Hall. We need 12+ helpers
for the busy afternoon shifts. Please join us for the fun.
Auditions for our Spring 2017 show, Gilbert & Sullivan's “The Grand Duke,” will be held in September. Look
for more information about auditions soon. Stage direction will be by Kate Neally with music direction by
Alan Paller.
