To current and prospective Ardensingers: This show requires a large, diverse cast, including motivated young actors. Visit our Auditions Page to review the script, music, and music recordings, read the character descriptions, download audition materials, and access other audition resources. Auditions will be downstairs at the Gild Hall on Tues.-Weds. June 19th and 20th from 7 - 10pm. To sign up for one or more 10-minute audition slots, contact John Newport at [email protected] or (610) 388-7680. We’ll be doing group auditions for the three “young outlaws” (roles specifically targeted for young actors), and for the roles of Herald, Soldiers, and Prisoner. (If you’re a first time auditioner, the group audition format will probably feel more comfortable than an individual audition.) www.ardensingers.org

Pyrotechnic Entertainment Presenter: Denis O’Regan 7:30 pm UPPER Gild Hall Tuesday June 19, 2018 The Who, What, Where, When, How, and Why Denis O’Regan will share what he thinks, knows, and misses about his unique passion. Having worked with some highly skilled designers and pyrotechnicians, he has learned some interesting history, methods, chemis-try, logistics, and storytelling techniques. He also has some backstage experiences, creative solutions, and even original special fireworks (SFX) to share. He’ll talk about the origins of multimedia entertainment and why pyrotechnic SFX were key from the very start. What families and occasions stand out in pyro history? Why did he journey beyond “painting and aerial canvas” to “floral arrangements”, in show design? How are fireworks designed and made? Why are opera and symphony favorites? Why did George II say, “too many fiddles”, and when was the first traffic jam? And, what do they have to do with fireworks? Denis will explain the techniques and insights of his profession about color, sound, and many other factors. Denis O’Regan, a resident of Arden, is a multi-media artist, designs and produces pyro-musical entertainment. Starting in 1985, he learned choreography on the Longwood Gardens productions of the early 1990s. He used a knowledge of electronics, then computers, to ride the wave of technology into a new age of digital control of pyrotechnical productions. His work has included indoor live stage performances, and outdoor musi-cally choreographed programs. He has won awards for design and technical multi-media productions for work in London, USA, Canada, the Caribbean, Inner Mongolia, and on the Yangtze River, China. Bring your Friends Please let your friends know about the Scholars’ Gild and its meetings. The meetings are open to the public (participants do not have to live in the Ardens or be members of the Arden Club). There is no entrance fee alt-hough we are grateful for small donations to cover the cost of opening the Arden Gild Hall for our sessions. If you would like to receive reminders twice a month about our upcoming events and are not currently on our e-mailing list, please contact [email protected] to be included.

LIBRARY GILD

CONCERT GILD Lisa Loeb Sunday December 9, 2018 - 7 PM early show!

$30 general public ($25 members) Lisa Loeb is a touring artist, author and philanthropist who started her career with the platinum-selling Number 1 hit song “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites. A trailblazing independent artist, Lisa was the first pop musician to have a Number 1 single while not signed to a recording contract. She followed that remarkable feat with the hit singles "Do You Sleep," "I Do" and "Let's Forget about It ” and the albums Cake and Pie and No Fairy Tale. Her albums Tails and Firecracker were both certified Gold. Lisa continues to craft irresistible pop songs for the 21st century, while designing Lisa Loeb Eyewear, writing children's books, and supporting non-profit causes.

Stop in on Sunday afternoons between 2:30 and 4 p.m., Wednesday evening between 7:30 and 9 p.m., Thursday afternoon between 3 and 4:40 p.m. The library is not open Saturday evening during the summer. Saturday evening hours will resume in October with the start of the 2018-2019 Dinner Gild season.

The Darling Dahlias and the Unlucky Clover, by Susan Wittig Albert In the seventh book of this popular series, it looks like the music has ended for Darling's favorite barbershop quartet, the Lucky Four Clovers--just days before the Dixie Regional Barbershop Competition. Another unlucky break: a serious foul-up in Darling's telephone system--and not a penny for repairs. And while liquor is legal again, moonshine isn't. Sheriff Buddy Norris needs a little luck when he goes into Briar Swamp to confront Cypress County's most notorious bootlegger. What he finds upends his sense of justice.

To Die but Once, by Jacqueline Winspear During the months following Britain's declaration of war on Germany, Maisie Dobbs investigates the disappearance of a young apprentice working on a hush-hush government contract. As news of the plight of thousands of soldiers stranded on the beaches of France is gradually revealed to the general public, and the threat of invasion rises, another young man beloved by Maisie makes a terrible decision that will change his life forever.

The Thirst, by Jo Nesbo In this electrifying new thriller from the author of Police and The Snowman, Inspector Harry Hole hunts down a serial murderer who targets his victims . . . on Tinder.

A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, by James Comey In his book, former FBI director James Comey shares his never-before-told experiences from some of the highest-stakes situations of his career in the past two decades of American government, exploring what good, ethical leadership looks like, and how it drives sound decisions. His journey provides an unprecedented entry into the corridors of power, and a remarkable lesson in what makes an effective leader.

GARDNERS GILD The Gardeners Gild met on March 18th and I was nominated and elected, there were no other applicants. Attending were three active gild members and four potential gild members. Following the election, we shared personal information on gardening. We checked out gardening gloves, handy weeders, the use of mp3 audio books that can be downloaded from the Delaware Online Library to assist those of who are susceptible to boredom, and Jeana Carey gifted the gild with gardening magazines and books; “The Gardener’s Essential Gertrude Jekyll” and “Henderson’s Garden Guide and Record” 1948 edition. We discussed selecting arborists for a variety of purposes and hiring professionals to assist with designing gardens. A lively discussion on different plants ensued and we learned how easy asparagus is to grow, if neglected. In addition, a member of this meeting is excited about hosting our next garden party. The third item on the agenda, planning, was started; however, no future events have been scheduled at this time. We discussed the number of members on the Gild’s undisclosed email list and the process for transferring that information. We reviewed some potential revisions to the Gardeners Gild’s current structure. This work will be completed within the supervision of the Club’s Board of Directors and with input from the entire Gild’s membership, and those interested in membership in the gardener’s gild. A true confession for me is that gardening is nice, but what I really enjoy is being in community, no matter what vehicle takes me into a caring, supportive, challenging and curious circle. I love our club’s purpose and invite you to send me emails, call, or stop me and chat to exchange ideas about the Club’s Gardeners Gild.
