1. A & AS Level : Arabic A Level Arabic builds on the language skills gained at IGCSE, O Level or AS Level, and is the ideal foundation for university level study, or to improve career prospects. Students will learn how to use the language in a variety of situations. They will be expected to handle texts and other source materials, extracting information in order to respond to specific tasks. Through their studies, students can expect to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language. Students will also learn how to translate material from English into the language.
2. IGCSE First Language Arabic: Designed for students whose mother tongue is Arabic, this First Language syllabus develops the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively. Students learn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and develop a personal style and an awareness of the audience being addressed. Students are also encouraged to read widely, both for their own enjoyment and in order to develop an appreciation of how writers achieve their effects. The syllabus also complements other areas of study by encouraging skills of more general application
3. IGCSE : Arabic as a Foreign Language: This is an examination designed for students learning Arabic as a foreign language. The aim is to develop an ability to use the language effectively for purposes of practical communication. The course is based on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and these are built on as students progress through their studies. The syllabus also aims to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of countries where the language is spoken, thus encouraging positive attitudes towards language learning and towards speakers of foreign languages.
4. O-Level : Arabic: O Level Arabic requires students to demonstrate their ability to write effectively in a range of registers, from letter and report writing to more creative topics offering room for a personal response. Students are encouraged to build their awareness of the structure of the language, through study of its construction and practice in manipulating it. The variety of passages chosen for comprehension exercises, with their emphasis on the cultural and historical context of the regions in which the language is in regular use, encourages students to read widely and build a valuable knowledge base.
