ZUMBA® GOLD takes the popular Latin-dance inspired

workout of Zumba and makes it the perfect class for all

populations — seniors, beginners, unconditioned, or others

needing modifications in their exercise routine. Absolutely

NO dance experience required!!! A ZUMBA® GOLD fitness

class includes slower-paced, lower impact choreography that

is easy-to-follow with modified moves along with more verbal

cueing. This class provides cardiovascular strengthening, works

the muscles of the body, and improves range of motion—

while getting the social benefit of “dancing” with friends and

meeting new people in a non-judgmental environment.

Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing, supportive

footwear with low tread (not a running sneaker) and

bring a water bottle and small towel.

Instructor: Claire Sherwood Class starts: Oct. 21

This course will introduce students to the

basics of their digital camera. You will learn

what functions and specifics of your camera

will lead to better photographs. Basic

photography knowledge will be covered such

as light metering, proper exposure, and

depth of field, aperture, shutter speeds and

ISO. Students will also learn how to upload photos and send

off to printing. Students should bring their own camera

to experiment with and learn more about!

TOLE AND DECORATIVE

PAINTING

High School Room 135 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Tuition: $60.00* 6 Tues. evenings

Anyone can learn to paint! You will learn many of the basic

strokes of Tole Painting and become familiar with decorative

painting terms and techniques. Beginners as well as those who

have painted before are most welcome. Students will paint at

least two projects during this six week course. Prior students

bring usual supplies; new students should bring a water

container and paper towels.* New students will need to

make the one time purchase of a brush kit at the cost

of $20.00 from the instructor on the first night of class.

(Returning students may also purchase this kit by contacting

Jodi.) A supply fee for all participants for paint used

during class, and painting surfaces will be $20.00 also

to be paid to the instructor on the first night. You may

HOLIDAY PROJECT with JODI

extension to the Tole & Decorative Painting

Instructor: Bonnie Lilly Session I starts: Sept. 17

Session II – Dec. 3

Looking for individuals and full teams for this fall session. This

co-ed volleyball offering is set-up to provide individuals with

some time to unwind and have fun! The level of play is at the

beginning/intermediate level. A set schedule will be given once

teams are formed. Each team will play for approximately 1 ½

hours and will follow the schedule as to start times of 6:30 and

8:00 p.m. If you are interested, please contact Bonnie Lilly at

LEARN THE ART OF SEAT CANING

(No class on Oct. 22 for materials ordered to come in,

It’s time to get that old chair seat repaired! Enroll in this class

and learn to do the job yourself. Both pressed and woven cane,

splint, rush, porch weave and Danish cord techniques can be

taught in this class. Bring your project to the first class-we will

remove the old seat properly (if necessary). *First night of

class will be used to determine a plan and materials

needed for each individual’s piece to be worked on. A

schedule will be worked out for each project (and style

of weaving) and number of evenings needed to

complete the project.

**Material fee is not included in the tuition. Materials will be

ordered and available by the second class. Individual material

fees will be due to the instructor at the second class.

Owner of “Dynamic Sport Adventures”

The art of “staying found” requires little more than a good map

and compass, and the know how to use them properly. Today’s

topographic maps are the best available, and magnetic compass

models are well-designed for the modern navigator. Learning to

use a compass and map together are fundamental skills each

outdoorsman and woman should have. This contributes to your

safety afield, and also to your success. This class offers an

introduction to learning these skills, with classroom and in the

field hands on learning. All classroom materials are provided.

*Our optional hike will be on Buck Mountain overlooking Lake

George. On a clear day you can see the High Peaks in the

Adirondack Mountains and also look below to see the many

islands sparkling like jewels in Lake George. You may even see

the diehard boaters enjoying the final boating days of the

season. Barbara McMartin’s book, 50 Hikes in the Adirondacks,

describes Buck Mountain as “a perfect introduction to the

Adirondacks.” Buck Mountain is a moderate hike of 3 miles (one

way) with a few challenging spots. We will car pool for the hike

and you will need to bring your own lunch and water. Plans and

preparation for the hike will be discussed in the class. Hike is

tentatively planned for Saturday, Oct. 18 (weather

permitting).

Are you finding that during these difficult times you are feeling

more stressed/anxious and possibly more tired? In this class we

will explore yoga postures and flow which support a stronger

more flexible spine. We will also incorporate meditation and

breathwork to quiet the mind and renew the body and spirit. All

are welcome, no previous yoga experience necessary. Please

bring a yoga mat, yoga block and/or strap (optional)

and wear loose comfortable clothing.

GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT CRAFT CLASSES

These two classes are quick and cool crafts that lead to fantastic

end results-great for unique gifts or keep for yourself. Sign up

for both nights and receive a discount. All materials and supplies

are provided so there is nothing for you to do but show up and

have fun! Please specify which class if taking only one.

Night One –Oct. 15: Up cycle a T-shirt into a fantastic and

fashionable scarf. Several techniques demonstrated .

Night Two-Nov.19: Transform a dollar store book into an

amazing, unique wreath.

CHARCOAL PORTRAIT DRAWING(Also open to High School students

for portfolio portraits)

High School Room 128 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Tuition: $55.00 4 Thursday evenings

Instructor: Karli Powers Class starts:, October 16

In this class, students will surprise themselves with their

understanding of how to draw charcoal portraits with confidence

and success. Through the use of photography and the grid,

students will gain the ability to employ several drawing

techniques while creating a highly accurate, large charcoal

portrait. Students will learn about the artist Chuck Close. You

will need: a click eraser, vine and compressed charcoal,

a leather cloth, blending stump and hot press water

color paper. All materials can be purchased at Arlene’s

Artist Materials, Fuller Rd., Albany.

Please bring: 8 X10"

black and white on regular

printer paper. Feel free to

bring more than one if you

are not sure which will

work better. This cannot be

a flash photo. There must

be light and shadow on the

face, and it should be clear

and close up. If you cannot

find one-we will create one

BASIC PUPPY/DOG TRAINING

High School Cafeteria 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Is your dog taking you for a walk

instead of you walking him? Is he

jumping up on your guests? Maybe

it’s time to take your pet to basic dog

obedience training! Basic skills to be

taught are: sit, stay, down, come,

heel, etc. In this course, you will learn

behavioral, reward based training.

Week two will be without dogs.

At this time, participants identify problems and goals for you

and your dog. The final week involves a version of the canine

good citizen evaluation of your dog. The course is designed for

dog owners who want to understand basic dog training for both

the home and working dogs in public. If you have a leash at

home, bring it with you to class so the instructor can determine

if it is what you need. Class size is limited.

ADVANCED DOG TRAINING

This course is a follow up to most basic obedience courses. This

course will begin with on lead training, but will move into off lead

training as well as the basics of a canine good citizen test and or

AKC companion dog certification. The course will not certify

dogs for either certification, but will prepare dogs and owners

for tests of this kind. The same skills are continued from the

basic course: sit, stay, down, come, heel, etc. However, the

level of execution is advanced from the basic level. This course

is held indoors; dogs MUST be capable of working indoors.

BEGINNER’S SWING & LATIN DANCE(FOXTROT, WALTZ & TANGO)

Are you are like many people who dread weddings and other

social events because you never really learned to dance? This

class will surely make you more comfortable on the dance floor.

This is your chance to learn how to dance in a relaxed,

comfortable setting that’s affordable. Learn American style

smooth ballroom dances consisting of Foxtrot, Waltz, and Tango.

Singles and couples are welcome. Dance classes require

mild exercise, it is recommended you consult your

physician prior to participating.

*Register for both beginner classes and receive 50%

off second class.
