St. Mary Parish 2nd Sunday of Lent March 17, 2019
5th Sunday of Lent
In our first reading from Isaiah the Lord tells us, “see, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” As disciples of Christ, speaking about our faith and the importance of prayer and sacraments is a new experience. While it can be difficult and takes practice, it is worth the effort. Saint Paul’s goal and the goal he encourages the Philippians to adopt should be our goal as well: “I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus”. How willing are you to pursue to goal of living a life rooted in Christ Jesus?

support for the Food for Families 40 Cans for Lent
program. During the Lenten season, we are asking for
contributions of one can of food per day during the 40
days of Lent. Please leave your donations at the back of
the Church, and members of the Saint John Vianney
Council will pick them up. All food collected will
benefit local families in need. Suggested items: Canned
fruits and vegetables, baked beans, canned meats, cereal,
peanut butter, jelly, jello, pasta, rice, powdered or shelf-
stable milk, soups, etc. Foods donated must not be
beyond the stamped expiration dates.
Easter Choir
If you’ve considered joining the 10am choir but were afraid
of the time commitment, you are welcome to add your voice
for the Liturgies of the Sacred Triduum. The rehearsals will
take place on consecutive Sunday evenings and one
Wednesday evening on the following dates: April 7, April
14 and April 17. The Liturgies of Holy Week are nothing
new to us. Take the opportunity to experience these ancient
rituals from a fresh perspective by singing about Christ’s
triumphant procession into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the
Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, the Crucifixion on Good
Friday that is overcome by the light of Christ and His victory
over death at the Easter Vigil. The choir is a 30 member
SATB group whose members range in age from teens through
80-something. You do not need to be able to sight-read to
become a member. All are welcome to join this wonderful
group of singers. For more information contact Jane O’Keefe
FESTIVAL EASTER
CHILDREN’S CHOIR
It is time to begin rehearsals
for the Festival Easter
Children’s Choir. Children ages 8-13 are invited to join.

Wednesday evening from 6:00-6:55pm in the Church on
the following dates: April 7, April 14 and April 17.
The children will sing at the 10am Mass on Easter
Sunday, April 21. We hope many young people will
join the choir to triumphantly proclaim Christ’s glorious
resurrection through song. For more information contact
Jane O’Keefe at [email protected] or
leave a message at the Parish Office.

Special Easter Collection
Our priests in good standing, especially our senior
priests, have always answered our calls. Like us, they
are troubled by the current events taking place in the
Church, yet they are still there for us. For decades our
senior priests have baptized our children, celebrated our
marriages and blessed our loved ones as they were
called home to God. They have always been available
for us. Help us care for the health and well-being of our
senior priests in good standing by graciously supporting
them in our upcoming annual Easter collection. Thank
you in advance for your prayers and support.

offered to all students in our Pre-K through Grade 5 and will
prepare students for a growing and ever changing world
economy as well as benefit their cognitive development.
At St. Mary Parish we believe the premise that every
child has the right to a Catholic education. We do not turn
away any family based on financial need. Our students
benefit from this safe space to learn and explore their faith.

Today’s Reflection
If our God were a vengeful God, who could survive? We
are sinful creatures, struggling to do good in God’s eyes,
but often coming up short. Even now, during this
penitential season, we need to seek God’s mercy.
Fortunately, our God is a merciful God, always ready to
forgive us. As we celebrate with each other today, let us
thank God for this overflowing mercy and consider those
whom we ourselves need to forgive.
