Resident Spotlight: Bobbie Collard

Bobbie Collard was born and raised in Cooter Neck Bend, Arkansas. She graduated high school in 1951 and went on to college to major in Business. She married her high school sweetheart in 1955. After living in Indiana, they moved to Texas in 1960. They owned several Exxon Service Stations. Bobbie taught school for 8 years, teaching typing, shorthand and bookkeeping. She left teaching and went to work with her husband at Exxon. They moved several times thoughout the State of Texas. They raised 2 daughters and a son. Her family has grown to 6 grandchildren and 6

great-grandchildren. After her husband passed away, Bobbie sold their business and in 1991 moved to San Angelo. Bobbie always volunteered at nursing homes. She would incorporate programs for the activity department. For many years this was a passion for her. While in Dallas, a friend referred her to a professional dancer. She learned to dance and got so good, that she worked for a cruise line out of Miami to teach dancing for 6 years. When she came back to San Angelo, she taught line dancing at the public schools, Senior Center and the City of San Angelo. Through out the years, Bobbie was very active in the Baptist Church. At times she played the piano for church services.

I first met Bobbie when she would join us for Happy Hour. She decided to move to Lyndale in December of 2016. Bobbie didn’t come alone. Ten years ago while she was at Walmart, a car hit a cat and left him. Bobbie got the cat and off to the vet she went. Well, the cat lived and has been with her since. This 25 lbs. of love is named Rodie. Bobbie has made many new friends. She enjoys playing Bingo, going to happy hour and attending special events at Lyndale. Bobbie’s friends from her old neighborhood come on a weekly basis to play Hand-n-Foot. We love having Bobbie and Rodie, a sign that sits outside her apartment says ‘Life is better with a Cat’.

Join us this month for 'Sagora's Got Talent'. This is a fun time to showcase your talents whether it's singing, arts & crafts, telling a joke or taking care of our gardens. The students from Mission Life will be here to help us make props for Sagora's Got Comedy and also hosting crafts and games. Our Talented Singing Seniors start practice and they will be the highlight at Happy Hour. Whatever your talent is, there is a spot for you!

INGREDIENTS

1 medium ripe banana

(peeled, sliced and frozen)

1/2 cup frozen mixed berries

1 Tbsp hulled hemp seeds

DIRECTIONS

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth,

adding more water as needed. Taste and adjust flavors as

needed. Add more banana or some agave for some added sweetness.

Serve immediately – enough for 2.

2 cups frozen or fresh kale

2/3 cup pomegranate juice

3/4 – 1 1/2 cups filtered water
