NICK’S NOTES

I can still remember the arguments my parents would have over money and the times we would go out to eat as cheaply as possible. It left me with this uncomfortable feeling when it came to money. On the other hand , we always had what we needed and my parents were always generous when it came to giving to the church. As an adult, we have had our struggles over money, but God has been faithful to us as we have been faithful to Him. I never have been comfortable with being guilt tripped into anything and sometimes the church approaches the topic of money and giving with a heaping helping of guilt. It can be frustrating and even aggravating. If you’ve ever felt frustrated or even aggravated by the topic of giving, you will be surprised by what you’ll read in God’s Word about it. On April 5th, we will be beginning an adventure in faith with the Lord as we will be distributing a book entitled Take God at His Word by Dr. Kregg Hood. The biblical study and practical insights in this book have convicted me in a very positive way. I believe that these exciting truths will encourage genuine generosity here at Creve Coeur Christian Church. Perhaps we have too often underestimated God’s plan for us. After all, God promises to take care of our financial needs when we trust Him with our giving. So our leaders, after prayer and fasting, have decided to step out in faith by trusting the Lord with every financial need and decision. Please join us as we learn, grow, and receive God’s rewards together. If you will not be here on Easter Sunday to get your copy of Take God at His Word Sunday, please come by the building during office hours (8-12 M-F). Read the introduction and Chapter 1 at home the week of April 5. We’ll read a new chapter each week as we pray for God’s guidance and study this spiritual act of worship together.

Think about this for a second: Do you want your children to grow up to be angry? I’m talking about out-of-control, self-centered, short-fused, “I’m gonna hurt somebody if I don’t get my way” kind of anger.Of course not.

The truth is there are a lot of people who are walking around angry. Somehow they grew up and missed a simple principle that is critical to life. Peace.Peace is part of God’s character and what Jesus came to do for us. God wants us to reflect peace in our relationships with others. We define peace like this: proving you care more about each other than about winning an argument.

It’s interesting that peace almost always requires some type of sacrifice. I can almost guarantee there will be a time in every relationship when you will have to give up something you care about to make peace. Peace will cost you something.

Peace is more than just “not fighting” and saying the right things to keep people happy. Peace is living in a way that shows you care more about others than about being right. It’s about building strong relationships through mutual trust.

Working at those relationships is hard work. It will cost us something. It will take time, swallowing our pride, and often will mean walking away from the chance to prove we’re “right.” That’s why we start by getting everyone to memorize something Paul said in the book of Romans. “So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to build each other up,” (Romans 14:19, NIrV)

Think about the significance of that phrase. Paul is challenging us to do all we can to live in peace. He stresses how important it is for us to do everything in our power to build a bridge—to fix what is broken—between us and someone else.

KIDCITY Elementary Series:

KIDCITY Toddler/2’s Series:Happy Easter! Jesus is alive! It’s an awesome month in First Look world as we celebrate our risen Savior and share stories of brave men and women who told others all about Jesus.

This month is all about “Go and Tell,” and we’ve even written a fun cheer to help your preschoolers remember that we are to go and tell others that Jesus wants to be their friend forever.

On the first Sunday of April, we will celebrate Easter with our preschoolers. Then, your little ones will hear the great commission—how Jesus asked His disciples to “go and tell” everyone everywhere about Him. They will learn about Peter, who was put in jail because he was so good at “going and telling,” and the angel God sent to free him. Finally, they will hear about Paul and Silas who were also amazing at the “go and tell” mission. They’ll get to reenact the earthquake that God sent to free them from jail. Through each of these stories we pray that our children will learn that God wants us to “go and tell” also, and that He is with us as we “go and tell.”

UPCOMING EVENTS

Have you ever taken a big risk? I’m not talking about eating your mom’s broccoli casserole after too many days in the fridge. I’m talking about something that could have only ended with a big win or a big disaster. Asking a girl to prom that has never talked to you. Pep-rally dance-off. Stealing second base in the last inning of the playoffs. If you’ve ever gone all in, taken a big risk, there’s only one reason you did it. The payoff. For

every risk, there’s the promise of a reward. And if the reward is worth it, if it’s enticing enough, you just might be willing to do things you might otherwise never consider. Did you know that serving the people around you can be risky? Not only is there no guarantee of being successful, of actually helping someone, but serving also means putting our comfort, our convenience, and our reputation on the line. On the other hand, choosing not to serve others has risks as well. Not only could we miss out, but those around us may go without something that they really need. Either way, there’s a lot on the line. So the question you have to ask is: Am I going to play it safe or am I going to go all in?

When you were a little kid, did you ever try to light something on fire using a magnifying glass? Did you love sitting around a campfire? Or dream about the day when you’d be old enough to light the fireworks yourself? It seems there’s something in all of us that is fascinated by the power of fire. But along with that power comes a lot of responsibility. Depending on how it is used, fire has the power to make our lives better or to destroy everything we care about. But flames aren’t the only things with that kind of power. The Bible teaches that

our words, our comments, and our conversations, can have a lot in common with fire. We’ve all seen how words used recklessly can quickly get out of control and leave everything a charred mess. But imagine what would be possible if we began using the power in our words for something good and beautiful instead? What if instead of using our words to destroy, we used them to build something amazing?

VBS Is on the Way!Coming this summer…

In the midst of fun, food, games, and worship, MOVE invites families to look at the lives of people in the Bible who changed directions and moved after

encountering Jesus.
