CONSECRATION TO JESUS THROUGH MARY May 11-June 13 Do you have a special devotion to Mary?
In this Year of Faith, as we are called to
turn towards Jesus Christ and enter into a
deeper relationship with Him, consider
consecrating yourself to Jesus Christ
through Mary. The Total Consecration to
Jesus through Mary by St. Louis-Marie
de Monfort involves a 33-day preparation
period, which consists of daily readings
and prayers, and culminates with a prayer
of consecration on a Marian feast day.
Both the preparation and the prayer of consecration can be done
individually. Here at IHM, a group of parishioners will begin
the 33-day devotion individually on May 11 and will get
together as a group to do the prayer of consecration on the feast
day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on June 13 after the 8:30
a.m. Mass. Come and join us!
If you have any questions regarding this devotion or if you
would like to receive a copy of the complete packet of readings
and prayers, please contact Fr. Bill at [email protected] or
call 404-636-1418, ext. 242.
To Jesus through Mary! Ad Jesum per Mariam!

Are you thinking about becoming Catholic or returning to the Church?
Or perhaps you're just curious about why we do some of the things we do, or
what the Church really teaches on certain subjects. We have a small faith
community that will meet monthly this summer to help you explore these
questions. Join us in the lower level of the church from 7:30-9:00 p.m. You do
not have to register, simply come and explore the basics of Catholic faith in a
friendly, informal setting. Contact Drew Denton ([email protected]) for
more information.

ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK
Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
God loves, forgives and welcomes everyone. Think about ways that your family can love, forgive and welcome others. On a sheet of paper create three columns with the following headings: Love, Forgiveness and Welcome. Brainstorm with your family ways you can reach out to others. Write the responses under the appropriate headings. Post the paper in a prominent place in your home.
Jesus extends God’s love to all. Find out about a group that works for social justice in your community. Invite someone from the group to explain the group’s activities to your family. Decide if there is a way you can help.
Think of a family whose national or ethnic heritage is different from yours. Talk with them about their family customs and celebrations.
SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Acts 10:25–26, 34–35, 44–48; 1 John 4:7–10; John 15:9–17 Today’s First Reading may help us examine how we sometimes do not value
those that God values. Peter had thought that the covenant extended only to
Jews, but at this meeting with the Gentile Cornelius, he understands that “God
shows no partiality.” Since the gifts of the Holy Spirit are poured over the
Gentiles, it became apparent that the waters of Baptism should not be withheld.
Considering this reading, we might want to examine ours and our parish’s
attitudes toward others. Do we recognize the gifts of those who are unlike us?
Are we hospitable to all or do we show partiality? Does the leadership in the
parish reflect the diversity of the community?
Understanding that God regards no one with partiality may help us comprehend
how we are to love. In the Second Reading, we see that God sent his Son for all
of us, not just those we consider worthy. Do we approach every person as
though God died so that he or she might have life through Christ?
If God shows no partiality, it is obvious that we should love everyone without
reserve. Christ’s command, the Gospel from John tells us, is to “love one
another as I love you.” Do we love as God loves when we reach out only to
those who are like us or agree with us? We hear in today’s Gospel that God
appointed us “to go and bear fruit that will remain.” How can you extend
yourself to people in your parish, workplace, or community? How can your
parish encourage its members to reach out to those who are unfamiliar to them?

yo los he amado”.

STEWARDSHIP
SPACE FOR ADS
May 10: A good planning tool we don’t hear much about is a Lead Trust.
This is a trust that one creates to pay out to a charity now for a number of years and at the end of the period
the assets in the trust will revert to the children or the grandchildren. This can be set up to begin while you
are alive or it can be set up to begin when you have passed. This trust can save families capital gains and
gift taxes. It is a wonderful tool to pass assets to your heirs while currently helping your parish with a
building fund or debt reduction fund. For additional information on these trusts contact your estate
attorney or contact Diane Duquette, the Director of Gift Planning at the Catholic Foundation:
[email protected] or 404-497-9440. There is also information on the Catholic Foundation website:
www.cfnga.org.
THE BLESSING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS Thank your family and friends for signs of their love and care; remember that the love you experience
in others is a reminder of God’s love; intentionally reach out to friends with whom you lose touch or
those whom you do not see regularly.
- The Stewardship Project, Catholic Life & Faith
SECOND COLLECTIONS
This week’s Second Collection will benefit the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul. Through the generous suppor t of IHM
parishioners, the IHM SVdP conference is able to assist families
with rent, utilities and food. Please be generous in assisting the
needy in our community.
Next week’s Second Collection will benefit the Catholic
Communications Campaign. The CCC allows us to share our
experience of faith, worship, and witness with the world. Your
generosity to this collection is a direct act of witness in itself, as you
facilitate the communication of the gospel message. And
remember, half of your donation stays in the Archdiocese of Atlanta
to support local communications projects.
