Description: 1-storey building with low gable roof. Monitors on roof. Flat roof over eastern portion (2 bays) (assumed an addition). Wing to east is largely demolished.

Construction Materials: Solid brick walls. Concrete slab floor. Concrete foundation, crawl space, open web steel trusses, wood roof.

Dimensions: 49.2m wide (orig. 35.08m) x 43.43m deep (not including demolished portion).

Notes/Significance: Significant: Relates to precision casting of satellite, including for airplane parts (Operation subsequently moved to Belleville).

Notes: Subtle sloping at various levels draining south towards the Nickel Plant. Centre portion is lower than exterior. Various widths throughout feature.

Golder Update, 2011 Condition: Ruin. Portions remaining. Remaining wood in remarkable condition. Metal mesh wire throughout; concrete remains intact as a result. External concrete spalling. Brick lining in chimney present.

Notes: Internal features include: several barrels in good condition, small tools and stairs to second level. Remnants of second floor remain but were not accessed. Bases of circular structures remain.

Present Use/Name: Date of Abandonment: Status: Ruin Date of Demolition: Description: Outline of foundation: plan sketched on field notes. Bases of circular structures (4 @ 6m± diam.) prominent. Some concrete supports, broken bricks, concrete chimney at north side fallen over.

Construction Materials: Concrete (foundation); brick exterior walls; reinforced concrete internal bearing walls; large diamond wire mesh.

Dimensions: Overall length (N-S) ca. 62.35m. Overall width (E-W) ca.45.9m.

Notes/Significance: Manufacturers of bricks noted on field notes. First commercial production of cobalt oxides in the world probably occurred here.

Golder Update, 2011 Condition: Ruins and remnants. Extensive rubble.

Notes: Two structures apparent; shed and plant. Plant: Rock inclusions with remnants of concrete foundations. Four „2x8‟ boards fastened together form beams. Shed: Concrete foundation and platform remains but in poor condition. Sprinkler system present. A large number of small metal canisters remain.

Commonwealth Building Inventory, 1987 Original Use/Name: Rhokanna Shed Date of Construction: ca.1939 Subsequent Use(s)/Name: Date of Addition/Alteration: Present Use/Name: Date of Abandonment: Status: Ruin. Date of Demolition: Description: Trapezoidal ruin.

Construction Materials: Concrete foundation. Wood deck; and presumably frame (wood) superstructure with corrugated metal sheathing and/or roof. Platform at rail track is supported by rails and I-beams, with sprinkler system below platform.

Dimensions: 23.3m w x 9.63m deep (at narrow – N – end).

Notes/Significance: Plate began to accept Rhokanna ores from Rhodesia in 1939 (Ore was associated with copper and cobalt).

Notes/Significance: The stamp mill was part of a series of four detached buildings including cyanide plant, power house, and laboratory built by Canada Goldfields Ltd. At the lab and mill, Kirkegaard experimented with gold extraction and white arsenic and later in 1906 with Kirkpatrick, a method of extracting silver and developing cobalt oxides.
