Anshe Chesed, - Fairmount Temple

Established in 1848 as the Isaellite Anshe Chesed Society of Cleveland.

1846 to 1886 600 Eagle Street

Land acquired from James H. Kelly with the assistance of civic leader Leonard Case Sr. Construction completed in 1849 by contractor and former land owner John Wigman. En-larged in 1860 , then sold in 1887 to B’nai Jeshurun. Property was sold in 1907 to Henry Spira and Daniel Ulman. Used for several years as a wagon factory and then in the early 1920’s served as a freight terminal by The Northern Ohio Traction Company until 1932. Thought to be demolished in 1937 the property joined adjacent parcels as a parking lot until 1988 when the land was acquired from the trusties of Daniel Ulmer by the Gateway Domed Stadium Corporation.

1886 to 1912 2506 Scovill Ave.

Commonly known as “The Scovill Ave Temple” Land acquired in 1886 from the Kinsman Ave. Church. De-signed by Architects Lehman & Schmidt. Sold in 1914 to Jacob Makoff, owner of Coventry theatre, and founder of the Orthodox Heights Jewish Center in Cleveland Heights. The building was converted to a movie theater known as the Main Theater. The property was acquired by the City of Cleveland in January 1961 for the redevelopment of what would become the St. Vincent quadrangle.

1912 - 1957 8616 Euclid Ave. Commonly known as “The Euclid Ave Temple” Purchased the former estate of Cassie Chadwick in may 1908. Designed by Architects Lehman & Schmidt. Dedicated March 1912. Education wing extending south was constructed in 1924. Sold in 1956 to the current owner, Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

1957 – Current 23737 Fairmount Blvd Beachwood Commonly known as “Fairmount Temple”

Purchased thirty-two acre farm of Ellis and Cora Hendershot in 1948. Architects Percival Goodman of a New York was assisted Cleveland Architect Sigmund Braverman. Dedicated in May 1957. A portion of the property to the north was sold 1986 to developers who then established Arthur Drive, now known as Blos-som Lane. Additions include the Library in 1987, and the administrative offices facing Fairmount Blvd in 1998.

Tifereth Israel Incorporated 1850

Several parcels purchased from the Wade Realty and A. Lowe in 1920 by Congregation Tifereth Israel. Designed by Charles Greco. Construction started in September 1922 and completed in Sep-tember 1924.

A Educational wing designed by architects Perkins & Will of Chica-go and Michael Kane of Cleveland was completed in 1958., along with additional green space replacing Ansel Road west of the synagogue. 1970 to Current 26000 Shaker Blvd. Beachwood

Often known as “The Branch”

Purchased former 30 acre farm of Frank Marous in 1969 from Rob-ert Levin, Albert Ratner, Milton Wolf and Dominic Visconsi. The modern building was designed by Perkins & Will of Chicago and dedicated June 7th, 1970. An additional six classrooms were added in 1988, followed in 1997 by the Lee Hartzmark library and multipurpose room, Both projects designed by well known Cleveland Architect James Herman. .

1856 - 1894 600 Huron Road Land purchased . Built by Jon Wigman. Sold to Alva Bradley in 1884 Demolished 1894. land was consolidated for the construction of the “Phone Company’s” 22 story central exchange. Above photo of Tifereth Israel at 600 Huron Rd. Plat Map produced by Geo F. Cram 1892 shows the Synagogue at 550 Erie Street. Sold to Andrew Dall in 1905 The aerial photo taken 2008 by the City of Cleveland's Dept. of Economic Develop-ment shows the land in relationship to the Gateway Stadium and the East 9th street ramps to the Inter-belt.

3330 Mayfield Road Cleveland Heights, Ohio Land purchased from the former Park School property in 1942 from David Rockefeller Jr. The property consisted of several smaller buildings on twelve acres of land. Designed by Eric Mendelsohn and occupied in late 1950. A grand social hall and auditorium; Kangasser Hall was added in 1969. 2005 - Present “Commonly known as Park East”

27500 Shaker Blvd. Pepper Pike. Land Acquired in 1966. De-signed by Centerbrook Architects based in Connecticut. Built by Marous Brothers Construction. Dedicated August 2005

27575 Shaker Blvd Pepper Pike Ohio Designed by Edward Durrell Stone, built in 1967 for Brith Emeth. Acquired in 1986 when Brith Emeth merged into Park Synagogue. The building became known as Park-East. Sold to the Lillian Ratner School in 2005.

1920 - 1922 1207 E. 105th

Acquired upon merger with Congregation Beth Tefilo in 1920. Used for worship until new building at 1117 E.105th was completed. Sold in 1922. Later home to Maramaras congrega-tion now known as the Green Road Synagogue. Source City of Cleveland Board of Zoning Review. Dat-ed 5-15-1945

1906—1923 5500 East 55th Street B’nai Jeshurun purchased the 5 acre estate of James Parker one of Cleveland’s pioneers of the oil industry in June 1905. Designed by Architect Henry Cone, the dedicated took place December 16th 1906. Commonly known as “Heights Temple”

Land acquired by board member Harry Amster March 1923. Cornerstone placed May 1924 . Completed 1926. Designed by Architect Charles Greco. Addition to the west added in 1956. 1978— Current 25701 Fairmount Blvd The majority of the land had been donated by Sidney Amster in 1966. Designed by Architect Don Hisaka. Ground breaking took place 1May 1978 and was. dedicated in May1980. In 2000 a portion of the land was leased to Solomon Schecter Day School now known as the Gross Schechter Day School for the construction of their new school completed in the fall od 2002.
