My dearest sisters and brothers in Christ,

At Holy Trinity we strive to be Christ-Centered: partnering, serving, growing, supporting, praising, and spiritual.

November 3rd marks daylight savings time for the United States. Therefore, we get to “Fall Back”. I’m hoping that you get to use that hour to catch-up on some rest. We have been very busy at Holy Trinity. If we are going to continue with the out-pouring of love to the community, I need all of you at your best, well-rested state. What concerns me on some days is that we have a human propensity to fall back into the ways of yesterday. I’m not talking about the good days of yore; but rather, speaking of the sinful mindset we so often live when we focus on death, forgetting the new life Christ has given us.

St Paul wrote to the Colossians, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set you minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-4 NIV).

On October 11, 2019, someone broke into our church building. This was a Thursday night or Friday morning thing. It appeared as vandalism. On Sunday morning, it was discovered that an item was missing. I stood in shock as our 8am members came into the building to greet me with their heart-felt “Good to see you Pastor.” We talked about the shame of the whole event.

On Monday, I called the Catasauqua Police to update our report. Officer Best, one of the school’s resource officers and a partner with us at the summer lunch program, came to take the new report. He commented on his sorrow, saying that our church doesn’t deserve to have this happen. He said that we are so community driven and doing so much for Catasauqua that people should be treating us as we treat them. I thanked him for such kind words. Then, I shared with him this difficult calling of Christ. We are to treat others how we want to be treated- not treat them as they treat us. We are to turn our cheek if we get slapped so to expose our other cheek for a slapping. We are to take the insults of this world, because we live as a new creation. The world cannot hurt us, it cannot take anything from us that has any value because Christ has already claimed our lives as eternal.

All this is to say that we have a choice in front of us. We can revert, or fallback, into a life of fear, worry, and doubt; or, we can choose to live. We can choose to live as free Christians who live-out the Gospel proclamation of new life in Christ. Remember, when we live as new, we then live for the betterment of others. We live with a sure assurance that all we need is already provided. Therefore, we look to provide others with what we have- hope, peace, joy, and love.

So, my sisters and brothers, get some rest! I need you to walk with me into this new life. I need you to stand with me at the tables where we invite all to partake in our feasts. I need you to fight with me the good fight as we battle the thoughts of death and fear as the world tries to have us forget we are alive in Christ. Get rest, November and December are going to be full of new-life opportunities where Catasauqua will be invited into this new way to live. Get rest on the day God gave us an extra hour, because pouring out our hearts to others is difficult tiring work.

Your partner in Christ,

Pr. Brian

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd

TURN CLOCKS BACK ONE HOUR

By now, you should receive your offering envelopes

for November and December in the mail. If you do

not receive them, please contact Robin in the

church office. (610-264-2641)

ELECTRONIC GIVING!! “SIMPLY GIVING”

Your annual pledge helps us forecast the level of financial support our congregation will receive in the year ahead. It is through the pledges and contributions that we are able to carry on our work here at Holy Trinity.

We offer Electronic Giving as a way to automate your offerings. It is convenient for you and provides much-needed consistency for the church. Collection basket offerings can fluctuate significantly from week to week but when contributions are automated, the church receives funds on a steady, uninterrupted basis. To learn more, call the church

610-264-2641.

At any time, you can give donations to the “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund”. This fund is used to give temporary financial assistance to people of our congregation and community when a sudden need arises. You may send contributions to the church or place them in the offering plate on Sunday mornings. Please mark your checks or envelopes “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund”.

In October we welcomed Braeden Lower to First & Third! All youth in grades 7-12 are welcome to

join us 2 Sunday evenings a month for a light supper, devotions/learning, sharing highs and lows,

planning, and general silliness together! Remaining First & Third dates are November 3rd & 17th,

December 1 & 15 from 5-7pm. Contact Diane Czar (610-739-6006) for more information.

The youth filled their 3 Holiday Hope Chests for local teens with gift cards and age-appropriate

items. This was a Morning Glories project that I invited the youth to support, and their response was

heartwarming! Thank you to their parents for supporting them in this ministry.

Several youth were part of the community spirit (no Halloween pun intended) at the Catty parade on

October 23rd. Riley Knecht, Dylan Carfara, and Mady Williams walked with the “coat float”,

collecting coat donations from the crowd. The younger kids - Lilah Carfara; Emmy, Brookie & Gracie

Williams; and Lily and Layla Zimmerman - rode in style on the first float, tossing gloves and candy

to the crowd. Thanks for giving up your evening to be part of this HT community activity, guys!!

Beautiful 2020 wall and pocket calendars are available from the youth. At only $8 and $5 each, they

make wonderful gifts for family & friends, stocking stuffers, secret Santa's. These high-quality

calendars are on the Announcement table in the back of the sanctuary and in the Alice Storch

room. Proceeds benefit Youth activities.

Bloody fingers, gooey cheesy sliders, blood-shot deviled eyes, mummy dogs and, hot heart dip…yum! For dessert there was cupcakes, brains and apple-slices with “fixings”, and candy guarded by skeletons. Spiders, spooky candles and even a guacamole-puking pumpkin set the scene!! NEIGHBOR SUPPORTING NEIGHBOR

Recently heard on WORD FM: Many times, an opportunity to show Christ’s love to others comes disguised as an inconvenience. Here are some of the ways Holy Trinity members were “inconvenienced” in October: ~Fest O’ Fall came with beautiful fall weather and a steady stream of families at our craft table and fish pond. What a great way to be present in our community! ~A thank-you note was received from the Catty Y praising the volunteers who prepared and serve breakfast following the breast cancer race on October 12. ~October’s Coffee with a Cop was absorbed into a larger event at Blocker’s Coffeehouse that brought together many official-types as well as plain people of Catty. It was a great time to see what others are doing in our community, and to lay some groundwork for an anticipated feeding need for low-income children during this year’s lengthy Christmas holiday. Don’t be shy - come out to the next CWAC event on November 21 at Taylor House Brewing Company! ~244 hats, scarves and gloves, along with candy, were tossed by our HT adults and kids from our Neighbor Supporting Neighbor float in the Catty Halloween parade! Later in the parade, we had a truck, complete with coat rack, receiving coat donations from the crowd. Special thanks to Len Witt for the use of his truck and trailer for our float, to the local businesses who hosted coat collection bins all month long (Blondies, the Catty library, the Catty Y, Pies On, and Blocker’s Coffeehouse), our Holy Trinity family for donating candy and so many new and gently used coats and accessories (the handmade hats were amazing!!!), and Thrivent Financial for the seed money to purchase about 175 pairs of gloves for our float to distribute. ~The September free community lunch hosted 22 guests served by 7 HT volunteers. The October 26 lunch brought about 30 guests and 10 Holy Trinity volunteers out of the woodwork. It’s great to see HT members coming to sit in community with our neighbors! Pastor Brian and his crew of junior cooks outdid themselves in filling homemade ravioli pasta with a choice of cheese, ground beef & cheese, and cheese & duck with mushrooms! Dessert was a huge homemade peach cobbler! Catty Mayor Barb Schlegel was seen serving drinks and bussing tables. Come out for our next free community lunch at HT on November 30 between 11 & 12:30 and see what Chef Brian and his food crew are cooking up! As we move into the season of retail decadence that runs from Black Friday through the after-Christmas sales, consider these opportunities to indulge in holiday contentment: ~The annual Ingathering of gifts for area institutions runs from Nov. 3 through Sunday, Dec. 1. Check the Angel Tree in the back of the sanctuary - take one or more angels from the tree, or a wish list from the table, and spread Christmas contentment through this district-wide mission. And don't forget the Mitten Tree in the fellowship hall! Requested items include 100 packs of snack-size m&m's and $12.50 to cover HT’s share or a bulk order of lifesavers; 35 sets of washable markers, colored pencils, markers, and crayons; 25 puzzle/activity books; a $25 cash gift toward a district donation to a local cancer patient ministry; mittens and warm hats. We're still waiting for our gift information for 4 kids at KidsPeace (approximately $25 each).

~When asked "What do you want for Christmas?", ask for a donation in your honor to Holy Trinity’s pastor’s discretionary fund, World Vision, Heifer International, Habitat for Humanity, CURE International, Truth for Women...the possibilities are endless!

Lord, shower us with more “inconvenient” opportunities to serve you!

Trinity Morning Glories

We are a daytime women’s group here at Holy Trinity. Our focus is on the spiritual and service to others. Along the way, we share food, work, laugh, chat and pray together! Please join us!

Note: Our meetings will always be the 3rd Monday at 10:00 (exception: Dec. will be the 2nd Monday).

On Monday, October 21, 2019, a luncheon of homemade soups, salad and desserts was enjoyed by 26 women. The theme of Diane Czar’s devotions was that we don’t have to do anything to earn God’s love. Diane played “Lamb of God” by Tenth Avenue North, which gives us the words we sometimes can't seem to find to worship a God who loves us so persistently and personally.

Joe Schwindenhammer told us of a young fellow named Sam that our congregation is helping get on his feet. Sam who has Asperger’s Syndrome was living in a tent not too far from Walmart in Whitehall. Luther Itterly brought Sam to Joe and Pastor Brian’s attention. With Sam, Joe has begun the lengthy process of getting Sam whatever government help is available. Sam is now getting $198 a month in food stamps. They were only able to find a small rented room in Allentown which cost $650 a month. Sam is working but only part-time so several of Trinity’s members have pledged to help out with a monthly commitment to help Sam meet his rent. Sam’s part-time jobs are in Catasauqua so bus passes are needed. Anyone interested in helping this 23-year old should talk or call Joe (610 573-1957).

“Murder at Mardi Gras” mystery dinner theater by “Without A Cue Productions, LLC” was very successful.

We sent a check for $1925 to Truth for Women; of that, $153 was from the basket raffle. Thanks again to the 3 “angels” who sponsored the play. “Death and Doo Wop” on September 19, 2020 will be our next play if it is available.

We have 48 Holiday Hope Chest Shoeboxes pledged for the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley’s annual Christmas drive. For those who have not brought in their box yet: put completed box with label in Pastor’s office. If you need a label, see Janis Charvala (610 440-0073)

Meal for Homeless at Bethlehem Emergency Shelter will be Monday, December 2, 2019. See below for details.

Ongoing Projects: BREM Rebra program – box in hallway for new/used bras (thanks to Nancy Miller/Ruthann Reinsmith); Ruthann took 45 bras last month to the BREM. Turning Point: Used Cell Phones box in church; Linda Wiland will be taking 26 phones to Turning Point. Morning Glories Bulletin Board in Alice Storch Room – watch for updates on artistically decorated board. Judy Connelly and Sandi Smith will do the board from Nov. 2019 thru April 2020. Thanks to Vicki Chimics and Sandy Svitana for doing May 2019 thru Oct. 2019.

As part of our annual participation in the National Pajama Program, Judy Spaits and Joan Herman will prepare the new pajamas and book collection box for the back of church. All collected items will go to a charitable organization in the Lehigh Valley. The box will be in church Nov. 1 thru Dec. 9.

Distribution of offering: 2 - $25 Walmart gift cards for Cay Galgon Family Life Center, $110 to Lutheran Disaster Response for Hurricane Dorian’s destruction, $110 to Sam’s Fund for the young man Trinity is helping.

Since Sept. 2008, $45,814.80 has been donated to special causes; this does not include all the non-monetary donations that have been made over the past 11 years which probably equal that amount.
