TODAY’S GOSPEL MESSAGE Sunday, September 1st

Luke 14:1, 7-14 “On a Sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table . . . go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position’ . . . Then he said to the host who invited him, ‘When you hold a lunch or a dinner . . . invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.’”

“True humility makes us more hospitable. Taking the spotlight off ourselves directs that light on the value of others.”

ACADEMY/ATHLETICS

A Message from the Interim Principal… Welcome to OLMC for the 2019−2020 school year! I hope your summer has been wonderful and that your family is eager to join us for a memorable, educational, and faith-centered year. With God’s help and guidance, let us begin anew.

As we enter this new school year, I want to let you know that our faculty and staff will be engaging in conversations around having a growth mindset, both for themselves and all students. We believe that every person in our building should always be growing and learning.

Here at OLMC we have worked hard to achieve the high standard of education steeped in the Carmelite tradition that we currently enjoy. Moving forward, it is crucial that we don’t simply maintain these standards, but continually raise the bar and strive to challenge all to be the best they can be. It is my sincere hope that we can all work together to embrace this challenge.

Enjoy your end-of-summer activities, and it is my hope that your children are ready and excited for the great school year that lies ahead.

Here’s to an exciting new school year as we continue to work together to make our school a great place to work and learn each day! Sincerely,

Ms. Barbara Verdonck Interim Principal

“We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity we often want something in return—a raffle ticket, a dinner, a chance to play gold or our name in print. Yet, as Christian stewards, we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven.”
